Hold+ v3.3 Released — Save PSP Battery Power *Updated*

greg | October 31, 2008

Update: And one more for the count –

Fixed a bug where if the battery was low, and the Power LED was blinking, and you turned off the Hold switch exactly at the moment before the Power LED blinked, the problem of the disappearing battery icon would occur.

The method of prevent accidental suspend has been changed back to adrahil’s SysEvent method, instead of Booster’s method which was used from v3.0, which was causing various problems as it worked by corrupting SysCon packets that contained the Power Switch On signal.

Update: Torch has released Hold+ v3.2 which fixes a couple bugs –

  • Fixed a bug where after you exit a Photo or the Browser, the battery icon would keep disappearing and reappearing.
  • Fixed a bug where each time you exit a Photo or the Browser, the first time you turn on Hold after that it would only go to Normal Hold mode.

Prolong your [hacked] PSP battery life by simply installing Torch’s Hold+. When the hold switch is enabled, Hold+ will take the necessary steps to ensure battery juice is preserved to the fullest. How does it work? See the download page for details.

Hold+ v3.0 – 3.1 changelog:

  • Reduced CPU usage by delaying longer in main loop. Since v3.0 the main loop doesn’t do much so it needn’t run as fast as before. This *should* alleviate problems with the battery icon.
  • Now its not possible to accidentally press ‘other’ buttons in hold mode while holding Select button. Ex: If you are holding Select + VolUp to increase volume, and you accidently press X, the X button will not have effect.
  • Completely overhauled the plugin to work using only the SysCon functions based on Booster’s example.
  • The prevention of accidental suspend was changed to Booster’s method as that is more efficient.
  • In Display Off mode, pressing the Screen button to return to normal no longer causes the firmware’s internal brightness variable to become one step higher and the original screen brightness.
  • Added the ability to use some of the buttons while in hold mode, by holding the Select button first.

Do I see Zif HD feasibility? I mean the whole issue is power right, now thats been solved so has anyone found or written HD drivers that would make the psp recognize the ZIF as a CF or Vise Verse?

ok, first make a folder called seplugins in your memorystick root, then once in there create a new text document, name it VSH.txt then add this line into it: “ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx 1″ if you don’t have 5.00m33 then it’ll be this: “ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx”

then copy the hold.prx into the seplugins folder, turn your PSP completely off(just take the battery out and pop it back in) and hold the R shoulder button and go into plugins and enable “HOLD.prx” then exit the recovery menu and tada you have one of the most useful homebrew apps out there ^_^

it’s just a simple path like this:
ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx

that’s it.

i fail to understand when can this be useful to me, i don’t use psps mp3 capabilities so could anyone tell me in what situations could this plugin be useful? isn’t it the same as going into suspend mode?

its useful when you forget to charge your PSP and its at 5% and it has top last you for a whole day…I am amazed at how long this thing lasted…props to the dude that made this

I use it with Sleep ‘n Wake. Since the screen has to be turned off and it has to be on hold for the alarm to go off, this plugin made things really simple. Also I’ve come to love it for everything else. If I have to step away from my psp for 5 min, and its in the browser, I can just put it on hold and not as much battery life is used.

So umm…just installed it and tried it out, and it works…only there’s a couple bugs. The first one is only minor: when you turn off the hold, the power LED doesn’t turn back on, nor does it blink like it does when it’s on hold. The second one is a little more major: when I turn my PSP completely off after using the hold+ feature, the PSP will NOT turn on unless I remove the battery and put it back in.

it will turn on but its take 1 minute to on becouse hold+ makes the cpu slow thers no bugs

You’re missing what I am saying. I turn on the PSP, it gets to the XMB. I turn on the hold, Hold+ kicks in. I turn off hold, Hold+ turns off. LED stays off. I turn off the PSP, then attempt to turn it back on, but it won’t turn on.

THAT is my issue.

I have the same issue. I don’t know anything about programming, but it seems related to the shutting off of LED lights when in Hold+ mode.
And, with GAME/POPS/VSH.text [I JUST figured this out], if you’re on 5.00M33, when you put your plugin path and such in the .txt file, if you DO NOT want it to start, instead of 1, just put 0. If you put 1 it auto-enables the plugin.

However, major/minor bugs, this is a wicked badass plugin. Mad props to the coder.

yea, i have da same problems, if i use it in the home menu, then i got to play a game later, if the game has a video background (the small square where game demos are showen) the video will be in a fuzzy looking thing (like a tv with no antenna) and every time i use it my green led for the power shuts off (when i try to turn it back on) and i cant press any bottons OR turn it off, i have to pull out the battery and put it back in at a charger to get it working normaly again. Btw i got a psp fat 5.00 m33-3 and i did install this program right. I can see from other peoples comments that they are having the same problem, i think it would be a great program if they could get it working right, but until then i dont recomend that anyone else should install it, because its not worth stuffing your psp up. P.S. sorry about the long message.

Great idea, but it’s a bit buggy for me. When I put it in hold, sometimes the indicator light or screen doesn’t turn off. Other times, when I bring it out of hold, the CPU is stuck in ultra-slow mode or the screen and light is still off. Also, when I bring it out of hold mode, I cannot put my PSP into sleep mode, I have to take out the battery to turn it off. I am running 5.00 M33.

this is brilliant!!!

one suggestion: add a config file so i can set the time for led flashing, i’d like my leds off (i know there is plugin for this, but it doesn’t always work, and if i can get it all in one plugin,…)

also:

when i put it in hold with the joystick up (screen still on, cfr regular hold), i’d like to see the leds switched off too, much nicer for watching video with the leds off
