PSP SNES Controller Mod

greg | October 29, 2008

Play Super Nintendo the way it’s meant to be played… … Well, sort of… The F00 has crafted something so crafty, I’ll quote the mod master himself:

Some time ago I was contacted by a nice guy in the US. He asked me whether I would be interested in building a psp mod for his partner. She has limited use of one of her hands and as such can’t use a psp, but she can however use a SNES controller perfectly (I’ve seen it, its quite a talent). So he asked if I would be able to add a SNES controller to a PSP for her.

Well at long last here it is.

And in related news, you best ready your eBay auction paddles — the F00 is [soon] selling a collection of individually modded PSPs on eBay this week. Check the source link for updates on that.

That is a cool mod, but the PSP has the same button layout. But this will help some people. Great Job.

Nice mod…dont really see the point since the controls on the PSP are the same as a SNES controller and feel better,..but nevertheless, u GOTTA give credit where it’s due.Very nice job.

Sorry to disagree but the SNES controller is one of the best controllers ever made.

If you had ever played STREET FIGHTER on both the PSP and SNES you would realize that the PSP buttons are *HITTY!

Yes not too shabby, but I beat him though:) I bought 40 PSP’s from a electronics repair shop that went out of business for $150 for all of them:) And all but 2 were totally repairable:) Wanna know what the problem was the 38? BRICKED:) And fixed right up with the might Pandora:)

Just curious, how long did it take to unbrick all of them?

This is rather pointless no? I could see the usefulness if you were to say, enable an N64 or PS2 controller to be connected, but this is completely worthless. I mean, this isn’t even worth it for the sheer novelty. Even when you aren’t using a SNES controller, the back side of the system will forever have an uncomfortable USB port sticking out getting in the way of comfortable egronamics. It’s already been pointed out that PSP has a SNES-pad layout already, but I’d like to further add that this is an unsafe way to play your PSP. Having a removable controller tethered to your machine while it must be propped up for proper “SNES Mod” play will vastly increase the odds of the PSP falling and getting damaged. Wouldn’t it make a whole lot more sense to just play it how it WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED in YOUR HANDS? I just hope no one is dumb enough to throw away big money on those auctions. I have a better alternative already and I didn’t have to pay or do anything extra to get it.

the mod was not for a normal 2 handed player. read before your rant. theirs been such mods for the 360 as well and m$ even gave the modder a liance to sell it retail. and in that case it would be safer for the psp to be propped in some kind of dock with a external controller then its normal setup.

I do suppose the having a handicap with one of your hands would justify using this, especially since you wouldn’t be able to see the screen if you had to use another body part like your chin in lieu of a bad hand, but to everyone else who would be using this, it is pointless.

Dude read the purpose for making it work on SNES before commenting you dumb fuck. What’s with your two stupid full shitload of whining comments. We all know psp and snes has a common layout, but it’s for a handicap person with avail to ONE hand only. Go get a fucking life or something.

Better not comment on wheel chairs either cos someone will complain they are useless for able body people… :(

just to clear up some confusion, a good reason for a mod like this is people like stroke victims who have limited use. for example a stroke victim loses most of the use of their left hand so holding the direction pad down for periods of time is impossible. so to solve this they play with the controller upside down. so for the clueless morons posting this is usefull. the psp is heavier than a snes controller, so a person with limited use cant hold it really well. second who wants to have to play with their psp upside down?? so before opening your mouth and spitting out crap learn about the type of person a mod is designed for and why they cant use something because you can. and i too think the snes controller is sweet hence why i made many old school controllers for my xbox. keep it real.nothing is like playing an old school game like using the controller that was designed for it

I just find it incredibly stupid that there are people out there who will probably pay big money for these things thing on Ebay. It’s not likely the winners will be disabled, so owning one of these systems isn’t justified when you’re a perfectly functional human gamer. Like I said, it’s comepletely useless as a novelty.

Comment by BOB DOLE
2008-11-04 01:07:57

Well if she does only have function in one hand, don’t you think it makes sense that she can set the controller on the table and then play with one hand. This would be impossible with a PSP.

1. The span from the Directional pad to the button pad is ridicules.
2. Her hand would be in the way of the screen….
