PSP Completely Splayed Out

greg | October 27, 2008

Check out alien_x’s disassembled, splayed, and racked PSP… The end result: one fashionable PSP hardware development board. EBGames (or Gamestop) should setup a functioning kiosk like this. Wall mount that bad boy, man oh man… Pretty hardcore. Kudos, alien_x.

Quoting alien_x –

Now, why is there no UMD drive? How is it controlled I hear you say?

Well the main controlling is done via a modified PS2 controller, that plugs in via the DSUB 25 pin connector, but also due to the boards plug and play nature, I could make an array of tactile switches to control it if the need arises. And for the UMD drive, I could implement it if it becomes completely necessary, but at the moment I am happy playing games from my memory stick.

I spent a lot of time on this project, and literally blood sweat and tears, so please tell me what you think.

This will be for sale in the near future as I need the funds for my new cnc machine build.

I just don’t get it.
Actually, what is the advantage of this?
I only see the problem, since PSP should be Portable and nothing seems portable with that thing.

Pretty bad ass dude. I would imagine things are layered in there (never actually seen the innards of a PSP) but did that make it tough to lay out like that?

people dont seem to get the point of this project, its to show how much can be done with a psp, i guessing all those saying its no longer a psp no nothing about the tecnical aspect of the psp, i wonder what the’ll say when they see a desktop hanged up on a wall with no case what so ever using the best cooling system ever.. well done mate i would buy it if i had money just to add my own ideas.

although this is great and i know a lot of work must have went into it. i see no point in this, if you added a bigger screen then yeah its cool and the fact you got a ps2 ontoller working is also great but i see no point in using this. why not pull out ur ps2 or pos1 for that matter

It’s a development test bed. It lets geniuses easily figure out ways to bypass security features on a hardware scale or make cool mods like adding a hard drive or touch screen perhaps. With the breadboards than can quickly try out many hardware options in a short time. Obviously not many of you users understand that people way smarter than you do this so you can enjoy homebrew. You all suck. I bet you’re usefulness ends at converting oxygen to carbon dioxide and coffee to piss.

what model is this psp 1000 psp 2000 or 3000 model

This could be useful to hack
a 3000 model.

Maybe sony removed some components and that’s why service mode does not work

I wonder if would be possible to read firmware from flash chip on a psp 3000 model mother board even so the firmware is encrypted so I am not sure if it would help much.

I really hope 3000 model gets hacked
but I feel sony may have won this time
with the changes to the hardware they made.

U right…EBgames or Gamestop (GayShop like i call them)should have a PSP display that raw, but they’re too gay to do it,lol. Gamestop is a bunch of scammers, ppl. dont support,..instead,…tear Gamestop down to the ground and burn the managers alive…they’re the biggest scumbags. If anyone is in NY, over on court street…avoid the gamestop there. The scumbag manager there is a bootlicker called ethan.he loves the c*ck.lol.

dont get me wrong, you must be skilled to do mods like this but, whats the point? it looks like a waste of space and not very easy to play on, even if you have a ps2 controller (why not just play on the ps2? least you’d have a screen you can see…) and not have somethin the size of a table top on your lap/table.

Very cool! I may have to do that one day. It would certainly make it easier to embed as a car computer. The controls could make use of existing steering wheel buttons. Until seeing it splayed out I had never considered it at all.

Thanks! Now to get it to talk with the cd player :D

I don’t get the point. It wouldn’t have been a hard project even. Just proved you can soldier. Nice.

Seriously… Imagine if i took my car, pulled it apart and made it work all splayed out… what’d be the point? it’d be trickier to drive (somewhat like your splayed out PSP would be to play) and if the purpose of your “hack” is not to play said PSP, you’ve ruined a PSP UNLESS you make it do useful like run the security system on a house or something :|.

You’re halfway to a decent hack. Don’t stop now. You aren’t finished.
