3.71 Memory Stick Driver (fatmsmod.prx) for Custom Firmware 5.00 M33
greg | October 24, 2008
I guess “fatmsmod.prx” from firmware 3.71 is still the recommended memory stick driver of choice. And thanks to Dark_AleX, you can now enable the 3.71 driver under custom firmware 5.00 M33.
Instructions:
- decrypt 3.71 using psardumper (square option).
- copy fatmsmod.prx to the root of the memory stick.
- copy FATMS371 to /PSP/GAME or /PSP/GAME5XX and run the program.

Now, I would recommand peeps to upgrade to 5.00. Kudos to Dax once again.
Naw …
I need cwcheat for 5m33!
cwcheat works on 5.00 M33-3….
hi my psp’s ver is 5.01 and i am new to this so can u, help me
A What PSP You Have Exactly???
You Need To Specify So That People Will Help You But If Yours Is Hackable Then Get DC8 On Your Memory Stick With RainLites MMS
Pandorize Your Battery Just Search “Pandora Battery” On Youtube, For Me I Used Amandoralara94’s Video It Was More Helpful Than Just Pics…
(If You Want To Watch The One I Used I Think It’s Called “How To Make A Pandora Battery [Step-by-Step]“)
Dam it, I recently deleted 3.71 update….DAMN IT!!!
Does this work with both the PSP 1000 and 2000 models?
Have not tested yet but the previous release did so it should be safe to asumme that this one would work on both as well.
I just bricked installing this btw…
@ Mick0204 can you access your recovery menu?(and it is flashing so it is possible to brick)
i tried recovery but it didnt work so i pandora/dc7′d it, im not going to bother trying again in case i have to do that again!
If it bricked while flashing the file(That file), he couldnt have control over any file system, that the psp can manage, so, i think he really got bricked
LOL you bricked your psp.
Thats the funny shit right there
how do ppl brick so much?…i havent bricked since 2.00 to 1.50 downgrader!
No kidding! I bricked ONCE, when I was trying to flash a theme (not enough space). And then, I had Hellcat’s recovery flasher, so I was good to go within like 2 minutes.
from where i can copy fatmsmod.prx to the root of the memory stick…
OK i found the fatmsmod… i follow all the instructions but now how to enable the the 3.71 driver under custom firmware 5.00 M33… inn recovery mode or any other else……
What you need to do:
1. Download the new PSAR dumper from Dark Alex.
2. Download the official 3.71 firmware update.
3. Place the 3.71 update (named EBOOT.PBP) on the root of the memory stick.
5. Start up PSP, run newpsardumper from the XMB. Use [] button to decrypt all.
6. Reset the PSP, go into recovery menu. Go to advanced, toggle “flash 0″ on. On your computer, open the folder “F0″. Find “fatmsmod.prx”, copy it to root of memory stick.
7. Put the fatmsmod patcher into your “psp/game” folder, then run it.
Done.
hi what is XMB from step 5
haha, wat is xmb, c’mon how can u b here if u dont even know wat xmb is
u could do a bit of research, but i will tell u
its the Xross Media Bar
the interface for psp and ps3
xmb is the theme.. dumbo
XMB stands for Cross Media Bar. It’s just the main menu on your PSP when you start it up. WHere you choose games, photo, internet, etc… XMB.
- Step 6 is totally wrong. You’re supposed to get the fatmsmod.prx from the “f0/kd/” folder in the root of your memory stick after dumping it. If you followed the above steps, you’ll end up with the same 5.00 M33’s fatmsmod.prx because you’re simply taking it from your PSP flash memory (in this case, 5.00 M33’s).
Hi i know your really busy buy i got a slip hard modded the battery did the firmware upgrade 3.71 mm-3 and its running but how do i get the psp games i downloaded to play on there?
will this work if you have the 1.50 add-on
I can’t find the newpsardumper?
I dont see the need to go into flash/0 when the instructions just tell you to:
Instructions: decrypt 3.71 using psardumper (square option).
Copy the file fatmsmod.prx in the root of memory stick.
Copy FATMS371 to /PSP/GAME or /PSP/GAME5XX. Run the program and done.
Nothing about Flash0
Well i semi-bricked my phat with that, but recovery or hellcats didnt work so i just used my pandora ha….. im pdating to 5.00 m33 right now, i think was the fatmsmod.prx cuz i found ine in the internet it weighed 90k, i just did it by myself thui time and this weighs 186kb ill try again ill report the results
whats the difference. ive installd and am using it but i dont notice any difference
What does this Fatsmod do?
it is supposed to use the old firmware prx becsuse it had faster write/read ms speeds than the current firmwares cause sony changed it.
i havent really noticed a difference tho
It is noticeable (more in the slims), on the xmb, while browsing for games/other stuff, the new fs handler make the menu lag
how do i use psardumper to decrypt the 3.71
never used it before
thanks :)
Look at my response a few posts up the page.
i thought mine bricked. my psp works with ms out though. weird. any thoughts why?
weird. okay i fixed this, but i had to disable my vsh menu, not the m33 one an extended plug in one, and my autostart prx. these are both for 4xx that both worked on 5.00 m33-3 before this fix. don’t know which one it was. maybe it was settings within the plug in that got changed after the fix, like autostart tryed to auto boot something and also i know the extended vsh menu had an autoboot fuction that caused problems. i’ll check to see what it is. if anyone has comments, please tell me
so i have conformed that it’s the alternative vsh menu plug in, good plug in, but these load times are a lot better, which i made a video like carlos so i could compare haha, but i do notice a difference. thank you again for all your work dax
I don’t know where you get 186 kb from for the size of “fatmsmod.prx” but I’ve used this before to fix firmwares 3.80 and 3.90 for other people and I still have the “fatmsmod.prx” file I dumped several months ago its size is.
94.1 KB (96,432 bytes)
This is the reason I’m still running 3.71 m33 [4]. It is very stable and there are only like one or two games that want run on it.
Yeah I know the fatmsmod.prx that bricked my phat was 94.1kb I dumped one from 3.71 n it gave me a 186kb file Ill test the file later
The file should be 186kb. The 94.1kb one is probably encrypted/compressed. You need the unencrypted fatmsmod.prx
For 4.01+, you need to use the decrypted fatmsmod.prx which is 186kb.
tested and working!
yeah it worked!!!!! the 186k FAtMSMOD.prx did the job
I just did a test my slim without FAtMSMOD patch vs my phat with FAtMSMOD patch….
My phat won I used the Simpson game for the test
I made a video so yall can see theres a big difference with load times
Idid phat with 3.71 fatmsmod vs a Slim
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A78VRE2EPaE
Enjoy!!
can someone upload the prx please?
can i do that greg?
i dont really know the policy of a prx file like this one
this work with new psp 3000
Yo wassup everybody this question is a bit dumb but what does this fatmsmod.prx do anyways?? and why is it so important
Here u can download 3.71 fatmsmod.prx:
http://rapidshare.com/files/157184085/fatmsmod_prx_371.rar
Enjoy!
:< ~ 371 fail to work with Japanese file name :<
got 0 Tracks in my folders T^T
is there a fix ~ or is it possible to mod the 500 one with faster loading?
emm, what about the umd driver settings where u press select in xmb. do u have to change it to M33 driver or leave it to Sony N9660 ??
Read in some forums that u need to change it to M33 driver to get the effect. Please clarify this
ok I have both 3.71 and 5.00 fatmsmod
I put 3.71 in e:) and run the eboot that need it, it said done, I can’t find a diffrent in the recovery there nothing new, but mit be Going down the list of game150 in the psp mit be going faster?
also in the real flash 0 the fatmsmod is still the size of 5.00 SO i think nothing change.
can someone make a youtube moive on how to make this work
wtf?! ive never used this mod before and it installed flawlessley. how are people bricking? wrong cfw maybe? lol
there not bricking its just they got to format the memorystick
heres a noob question. if i format my mem stick will i have to apply this patch again or is it safe to delete these files off my stick after installing
You can delete the patcher and fatmsmod.prx. It won’t harm the system.
I know, I tried to install a cintro almost half a year ago and it bricked. All the other installs, CFW updates etc., are all relatively safe.
nope using the 94.1 KB version which is encrypted is file that bricks the psp
worked just fine for me.
I had forgotten that there was two ways to dump encrypted and decrypted. And I had no idea that it required the the decrypted version.
BTW that rapid share link is illegal and will probably be deleted. It’s illegal to distribute Sony’s firmware that way.
Get it while it’s hot!
Tested on CFW 4.01 M33-2…. Works!
I’ve noticed there is a “HUGE” difference between Normal & Patched.
benefit:
-Faster loading ( r/w memory )
-If use CSO, just lag a little bit, not lagging awfully (before patched).
tested game:
-NFS Pro CSO
-God Of War CSO
-Valhalla Knights 2 CSO
-Disgaea CSO
( All get faster loading time! )
This is a must have patch if you use CFW above 3.71
How dare you pirate god of war!!!!! j/k I love all the god of war games though :P
This worked great for me too. Haven’t seen about the japanese filenames though.
I bricked my PSP Fat with the 94k 3.71 fatmsmod.prx.
I tried the replacing the 94k fatmsmod.prx with the 186k file (CRC 7f256ad2)found on the link above from the recovery menu on the PSP on the KD folder and I still can’t unbrick it.
I also renamed the fatmsmod.prx 186k file to fm371.prx and replaced the one that was there, and still no luck.
Can anyone tell me what else I need to do in order to make my PSP Fat boot back to normal? I only have one PSP console, don’t know of anyone else who might lend me theirs to unbrick mine.
Could anyone post a link to a site where the original files from firmware 5.0 that were replaced by this patch?
and fw 5.00 any good? not sure about upgrading
This should help found this on another forum:
I have a little problem concerning the FatmsMod in 5.00 M33-3. I extracted “fatmsmod.prx” from the official 3.71 firmware, moved it to the root of my memory stick, ran the patch normally from the XMB, it went just fine, then my PSP rebooted itself and now it won’t run at all. I turn it on, the power light turns on, screen stays off and it turns off by itself after a few seconds. I can get to the recovery menu though, holding the R trigger when turning on my PSP, however I cannot execute GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP, the screen goes blank and my PSP turns off again after a few seconds. It looks like I’m screwed, the “fatmsmod.prx” was probably corrupted, I don’t know, but now it looks like I can’t read anything from my memstick, what should I do? What CAN I do? Please help me :(
——————————–
EDIT:
Citar:
For all the ppl who semi-bricked their psps
Recovery doesnt work not even using Hellcats recovery,
Just use ur pandora if u have if u dont shame on you
I think the culprit is if you use fatmsmod.prx with a size of 94.1 KB (96,432 bytes) which is
encrypted/compressed.
The one that worked for me was the fatmsmod.prx with 186kb unencrypted
I think D_A should block the use of the encrypted version…
Anyone can confirm this, cuz i bricked mine using the 94.1 KB file.
Crap, I did use the encrypted version… great, now I’m fucked because I don’t have a pandora battery. Why the hell does it even start patching with the smaller fatmsmod.prx? It does say it works with decrypted AND encrypted (unsigned) one. God damn.
——————————–
EDIT2:
Citar:
Download the decrypted fatfsmod.prx 186kb from somewhere (think someone has posted it in this thread) and Toggle Flash0 from recovery. Rename the fatfsmod.prx to fm371.prx and paste it in the kd folder overwriting the old one.
Thank you so much Torch, this actually worked. However when I confirmed “toggle flash0″, Windows came up with some kinda error (using Vista 64bit), and I couldn’t see the “kd” folder in Explorer, but when I tried to create one, it said there already is a folder by that name… So I renamed the 186kb fatfsmod.prx to fm371.prx, moved it into a folder “kd” I created on my desktop, and then moved the whole folder to flash0 and when it asked me if I want to merge folders I clicked yes, then it asked me if I want to overwrite the fm371.prx, I clicked yes once again…
And now it works again, sweet! You’re my hero.
WHERE IS THE fatfsmod.prx 186kb IN THIS THREAD PLEASE? I can’t find it and i desperately need it. Thx!
This fixed my phat psp!!
God bless America and god bless Torch!
Seriously, thank you very much for this post and the kd folder trick. Saved me the trouble of making a pandora battery. Guess I should make one anyway but takes the pressure off.
M33 always ^^
for my understanding those drivers are for iso/cso img ~ it shoudn’t be affect XMB Music functions
What is the memory stick driver for exactly?
Ok where do i put the PSAR Dumper because whenever i try to run it it just says This program requires 2.71 or higher and after a while it just goes back to the XMB
So you can access recovery menu? If you can, get Hellcat’s recovery flasher. With that, you can re-flash 5.00 from recovery.
Hellcat’s recovery flasher is an absolute must have if you don’t have a Pandora. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t use it, honestly.
The most noticeable effect is in XMB loading speed.
Ok where do i put the PSAR Dumper because whenever i try to run it it just says This program requires 2.71 or higher and after a while it just goes back to the XMB HELP!!!!
this stops CFE 2.2 from working. no reason for me to keep it.
Can someone please tell me where or how I can get fatmsmod.prx the 186kb. please i cant find it anywhere.
OMG i am hearing so many varieties on how to do this. can someone please write the steps on how to actually do this the correct and final way without bricking or causing problems? Thx.
I tried renaming the fatfsmod.prx
from the KD folder from flash 0 file to fm371.prx, it didn’t solved the problem.
The Recovery option doesn’t work either.
Any other ideas that DO work?
Yes
Guide:
1. Download all 3 file links from psp-hacks links above.
3. Place 3.71 update (named EBOOT.PBP) into the root of the memory stick.
5. Start up PSP; run new psardumper from GAMES, use [] (Square) button to decrypt all.
6. USB connect to pc, open the folder ‘F0′ in your root memory and find ‘fatmsmod.prx’. Copy to root of your memory stick.
7. Put the fatmsmod patcher into your “PSP/GAME” folder then run it.
Visual Video of speed difference:

185kb 3.71 PRX Unencrypted:
http://rapidshare.com/files/157184085/fatmsmod_prx_371.rar
**Note**
-Don’t use the encrypted fatmsmod.prx 95kb but instead use the 185kb decrypted one.
-vshmenu.prx and cfe.prx (custom firware extender v2.2) may not work after patch
-Playstation Network may not work after patch
Questions:
1. Format there whole MS for patch use?
2. Need to set to M33 driver instead of Sony N9660?
3. Possible to patch or unpatch back to the fatmsmod 5.00?
PLEASE
This is a lifesaver! I got an 8gig sony memory stick and it worked fine until I was running dgen 1.70 lite on 5.00m33-3 and it would randomly turn off like it was bricked and it wouldn’t turn on with the memory stick in. So I turned it on without and it was normal (phew) and then put the stick in and it would say free space: 0 Kb when I had about 4000mbs left of space and if put into usb mode it wouldn’t show up as a drive. It would always work after a while of in and out in and out until finally it pooped out on me and would read or write whatsoever. and I decided it was a necessity and when it finally worked itself out, I spent no wasted time before installing fatmsmod for 5.00 and it works flawlessly now, faster loads and no freezing. Only Problem I have now is that 3800 Mb of space magically disappeared even when the memory stick is formated…
Works great on my slim AND my phat.
hi guys..
hope u still check this site.
i hav fat psp.
i’m gettin an error ‘The game could not be started (80000108)’ wen i run d fatsmod patcher from games…
kindly help…
hey i have cfw 5.00 M33-4(fat) and when i play ( dissidia : final fantasy ) it stays on a white screen later on the game —->>> will this patch help me fix the problem ?
This works with 5.02GEN-A!!! Im using http://rapidshare.com/files/157184085/fatmsmod_prx_371.rar and http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1589
Hey,
I have a question. Does this method works on a briked firmware 3.80?
I hope its not too nooby of a question :)
Thank you.
OK, so I have been out of the PSP loop for a year or so and I just upgraded from 3.71m33 to 5.00m33-4. NOW… I upgraded only cause my ISO games would not let me play on line. However I saw this and thought I might need this for older programs. I installed it like everyone has said but one question…. Where can i check if it installed cause it said it did but the firmware is still 5.00 and in recovery there no 3.71?
Hi, I upgraded from 3.71 M33 to 5.00 M33-6 and i had a save game from Macross Ace Frontier when i was on 3.71 M33 and now when i try to load that save file it throws the error that the save file is corrupt but all my other psp saves are fine, is there any way to get them to work on the new firmware or am i doomed and have to start again?
I have 16Gb memory stick but for the iso game I can use only 4Gb is it possible to expand that space ?
Ok… I am a schooled modder. I Haven’t gotten the full picture of what FatMSmod does… from my research and whats been posted here it is for a lag in the XMB that occurs in the 5.00M33-x CFW. Ok… I get that… Why do I need it? Here’s where I am and mabey someone could help me. I am using a fat cfw 5.00m33-6 (should be on 5.00m33-5) I have a CSO that won’t run… I know leave the CSO’s alone and only use ISO’s… let’s step back and work with it. Tested in slim on (same card and same CFW w/no changes) works fine. On fat no good. (80020148) error. All other CSO and ISO files work fine. So I take it that my fat is the issue. A hardware differance is the thing we are dealing with. K. Well then I am in research at a dead end. You tell me 1.50 kernal add on for 5.00m33. Not the fix. Then here I am in FatMSmod… not the fix. Well what would you say is the fix? Where am I going wrong? I know that I applied these fixes perfectly… any one have any thoughts?
hey…can i ask how to make the low memory of a psp to a higher one…bcoz i bought a 1 gb memmory stick last week and i didn’t notice that it is only 1 gb…so i’m wondering if u can help me….thnx..just e-mail me if u have found out why..here’s my e-mail add chuajohnmark@rocketmail.com…..thanks…^_^
ei.., is that safe to install?… im not really sure if i do mistake it will damage my memory stick…
can anyone tell if there is nothing wrong and safe to use?
So this is a dumb Q and all, but oh well. If you psp is not hackable and you use this to hack it? Or if it is unhackable (its a 2000 series I dont have the motherboard info with me) can you brick it on purpose and then use Hellcat’s recovery to unbrick/intall cfw?
holy god I cant do it I need help. if someone knows how to do dis e-mail me at 5-elements@live.com
My psp has custom firmware, the iso games work. but when i press select/home on the xmb menu, no scepial screen pops up (ie–i do not have the built in umd dumper). i have version 3.90 m3.3. if i upgrade to version 5.00m3.3, will my psp have all the same features?
I did it!
i have psp 2000 (slim) with 5.00 m33-6 and i sucsefully did it!
Just follow this gudi by Leechy:
Guide:
1. Download all 3 file links from psp-hacks links above.
3. Place 3.71 update (named EBOOT.PBP) into the root of the memory stick.
5. Start up PSP; run new psardumper from GAMES, use [] (Square) button to decrypt all.
