PopsLoader for Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-2 Released

greg | October 22, 2008

I know you’ve been anxiously waiting… Freshly compiled just for you… Snap, crackle, Dark_AleX’s PopsLoader — the dopest PSX/PSOne emulator for custom firmware 5.00 M33-2.

System requirements, PopsLoader changes, installation and upgrading, downloads, etc… — all available after this break.

Requirements:

  • 5.00 M33-2.

PopsLoader changes:

  • Works on 5.00.
  • Added 3.80, 3.90 and 4.01.

Upgrading from an older version of PopsLoader:

  • Copy seplugins to the memory stick root folder replacing files.
  • Dump firmware 4.01 (choose decrypt all option in PSARDumper) and copy impose.prx to /seplugins/popsloader/ with that name (impose.prx, without numbers).

Install PopsLoader from scratch:

  • Copy seplugins to the memory stick root folder replacing files.
  • Dump the desired firmware to extract the files needed (choose decrypt all option in PSARDumper).
  • These are the required files for each firmware:
    • 3.02-3.03: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /kd/meaudio.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
    • 3.10-3.30: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
    • 3.40-4.01: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx, /vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx
  • Copy the files to /seplugins/popsloader with firmware version as suffix (e.g. popsman.prx -> popsman380.prx)
  • Additionally, no matter which pops you want to run, you have to get impose.prx from 4.01 and copy it to /seplugins/popsloader/ with the name impose.prx (no suffix).

I’m having trouble trying to do this, I’ve never had to use PSAR Dumper, and following the scarce instructions I can find, I can’t even get the icon to show up in my XMB to use it. Help please.

Everytime i try to decrypt all it says it cant find the eboot and it shuts down. what am i missing?

Comment by crshovveride
2008-10-23 00:25:38

u need the 3.80/3.90/4.01 eboot on the root(whichever one you are doing) and name it eboot.pbp the run the program and press square to decript all

Comment by Pinky
2008-12-11 13:17:05

what you are missing is the original firmware version you want to add to the popsloader since some psx games work better with certain versions. ex original fw 4.01 download it extract it and copy the eboot.pbp file to the root of your memory stick then run psardumper decrypt all, a new file F0 appears in the root directgory of memory stick go there get the files you were told was needed copy them to seplugins/popsloader then when done delete the F0 file and the eboot file and if you want a different version of firmware do the same above for that version of original firmware.

hey can anybody…ANYBODY tell me how to fix the problem with switching discs when playing a game with more than one disc? i have CFW 5.00 M33-2 installed and it works great. And i have driver 2 for psx ( 2 discs game) and when the screen tells me to swap discs…. i try to do it by clicking on the “Switch Discs” and it tells me ” The game did not prompt you to switch discs. To switch discs and start another game, select [Reset Game].” This is anoying. I cant continue to play the rest of driver 2 cause it wont switch Discs right. Maybe is still not meant to work right in 5.00 firmware…or i probably didnt cinver it right. but i think i did. Can u try fixin ma problem greg? sorry for the long post.

Thank you!!!

If anyone is reading this, just download the above, copy it to your seplugins folder, and enable it in the recovery menu. It will save you a LOT of time and trouble from going through the whole messy process above.

I should be more clear – download the file ShaggyZE put above, and it will save you from all the ridiculously complicated steps at the top of the thread.

sorry but I used to play psone games without doing these things…
so what exactly is this ?

Comment by cheese
2008-10-23 10:34:33

It simply allows you to load run psone games with the support of older firmwares, depending on the modules available in your popsloader folder.

im unsure if it stands for anything other then popstation which is not to be confused with the knock-off imatator of the psp but anyway popsloader just loads the pops emulator from several versions of previous firmwares that had pops so that psx games made or converted for those firmwares or psone games that work better with those firmwares can still be played nicely in other words i can upgrade my psp to 5.00 M33-2 and still play a psone game perfectly as it was intended on 3.72 M33 firmware

F*** the PSN store
read this SORRY for the long post!!!

“SCEA reserves the right to monitor and record any online activity and communication throughout PSN and you give SCEA your express consent to monitor and record your activities. SCEA reserves the right to remove any content and communication from PSN at SCEA’s sole discretion without further notice to you. Now excuse us while we got stock up on tinfoil hats so Sony can’t read our minds.

Yep, that’s happening all over the world. America has it worst, but the top 6 IPSs in the UK are doing it too. The idea is an old one – crack down on piracy. If they catch any IP/user registered in PSN (or other official networks) connecting to and using illicit sites (psp-hacks being an obvious example, although it typically includes torrent sites and serial/crack/hack/warez sites too) then they reserve the right to restrict any service to you (in your case, PSN), even if you are paying them for the service.

Lesson to be learned: proxies are your best friend :D

well actually i have release it as a scene release because on some sites it has to be in that format, since i spent all that time decrypting firmwares i wanted to put it in more places on on torrents so thats just the way they like it to be, its not 3 different versions its a winrar file thats split up info 3 part files 15M a piece and thats just the way scene releases want it, but it shouldnt really be that confusing, first extract seplugins.rar, then extract anyone of the 3 because they all contain 1/3 part of a single rar and then just copy the files to your seplugins folder

Ok, I’m definitely somewhat of a noob, but I downloaded from the link ShaggyZE provided (thnx). I’m loading from scratch.
1. Do I put the .rar files on the root of my memory stick or do I unrar each of the 3 .rar files and put the multitude of files located within those on the root of my memory? Sorry for the dumb question!

Nevermind, I see the SHaggyZE explained it above. Before I forget many many props to DAX…..you’re a genius. With that being said, what else do I need to play ps1 games on my psp? Do I still need to use the psardumper if I have all the files in my seplugins folder on the root of my memory stick? Sorry for all the questions?

Nope the PSAR dumper is only used to get the popsloader up and running manually. Once those files are in your seplugins folder thats you sorted (well, once you enable the plugin through the recovery menu ;] )

Now ya just gotta get PS1 Eboots and put them into your GAME folder, BAM! PS1 games on the go!

no need to repost this, as you’re using the same host as previous post. may save people from re-downloading the same files and putting the same files back on their systems. nonetheless, awesome job posting this as this is the first time I’ve seen anyone do this work-saving group of pops files

To use PSARDumper Download it from the PSP hacks page there will be two files when you extract it new_psardumper and src files copy the new_psardumper file to your psp/game5xx file then it should work under the game category on the psp but before it will do anything you must download a firmware such as 4.01 also located on psphacks website then extract it and copy the eboot.pbp file to your root directory of your psp then run the psardumper under your psp game category and select decrypt all when it is done there will be a new F0 file in your psp root directory of the memory stick that is all the files you need follow directions from psp hacks when you downloaded thre popsloader 5.00 and copy and paste those files where it indicates you to. When you have put all the files you needed into seplugins/popsloader file delete the F0 file and the Eboot.pbp file

Help, I’ve installed everything correctly (I hope). But when I try to load a game I just end up getting stuck at the PS Logo. I’ve tried to hold down the R button but nothing happens.

I installed OFW V 5.50 before i found out about homebrew

Is it still possible for me to install CFW
(Or downgrade) or will i have to wait till the 5.50 OFW Has been cracked?
I’ll soon have a magic memory stick and Pandora Battery if that helps

I have a PsP-2000 Slim & Lite

I also have a psp slim that had 5.50. with the MM stick and the Pandora you can still go to CFW without any need to downgrade.
