Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-2 Released

greg | October 22, 2008

Boom-bam!

Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-2 changes:

  • Popcorn bug fixes:
    • Fixed bug that caused some games with certain icons not to work, and caused document.dat not to work.
    • Fixed critical bug that caused continuous corruption of psx games in RAM.
  • Core bug fix: Fixed sctrlKernelSetInit* functions not working.
  • M33 network update doesn’t work in 5.00 M33, fixed.
  • Added the possibility of loading version information from the file flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt. By default is disabled. If you enable it in recovery, you could for example dump 5.01 firmware, copy the version.txt from it to the flash, and bypass firmware check restrictions like those that may be in PSN, etc… This will also fake official network update (not m33 one), and running the update eboot (again, not m33 ones).
  • Plugins configuration file format changed. The new format is as follows:
    • There is no more conf.bin file.
    • Now each line in vsh.txt, game.txt, and pops.txt will have a 0 or a 1 at the end. 1 indicates that the plugin will be loaded, 0 (or anything else) it won’t be loaded. Entering recovery in 5.00 M33-2 will automatically convert the old format configuration to the new one (this may cause a delay first time you enter plugins because of conversion).
    • Added options under advanced configuration that allow enable/disable of plugins in a certain configuration. By default they are enabled.

With this fix, do I still have to manually flash the popcorn.prx, vetsion.txt and npinstaller_plugin.prx or does this update automatically do it for you? i’m still in ancient 3.53m33 btw

im new at this how do i update to the custom one im running 5.00 m33 official?

Comment by PiercedDooD

m33 official?
cant be, youre running m33 OR official fw
if you have an official fw, and your psp isnt one of those doomed ones with the new motherboards, (or a brite), you HAVE to use pandora, if it is m33, just unzip the files to the PSP/GAME/ folder on your memory stick

hey can anybody…ANYBODY tell me how to fix the problem with switching discs when playing a game with more than one disc? i have CFW 5.00 M33-2 installed and it works great. And i have driver 2 for psx ( 2 discs game) and when the screen tells me to swap discs…. i try to do it by clicking on the “Switch Discs” option and it tells me ” The game did not prompt you to switch discs. To switch discs and start another game, select [Reset Game].” This is anoying. I cant continue to play the rest of driver 2 cause it wont switch Discs right. Maybe is still not meant to work right in 5.00 firmware…or i probably didnt convert it right. but i think i did. Can u try fixin ma problem greg? sorry for the long post.

Just a small question:
If i’m running 4.01 m33-2, can I then use the m33 network update to update to 5.00 m33-2 or do i have to manually update to 5.00 m33-1 first?

I finally managed to fix the PSN Store frozen download problem on my PSP… I just used Psardumper to get the original npinstaller_plugin.prx from the 5.00 OFW update and used it to replace the one in the VSH/MODULE folder. I don’t know if it’s the sort of thing I’d recommend but it is working now without any problems (And I have a 8GB SanDisk MS)

great update,
fixed my problem with me unable to connect to tv via component. works great now. m33-3 update also helped solve the psn store thing

UPDATE: I decided to experiment a little as I wasn’t convinced that my solution was completely satisfactory.
I used psardumper on the 5.01 OFW update to get the newer npinstaller_plugin.prx. Seeing as I am still able to download from the PS Store I can only assume the problem was with the way Dark Alex dumped the plugin for his earlier fix. So if you have problems downloading from the PS Store my advice is to dump the plugin yourself using Psardumper and the 5.01 OFW update as I believe the file is affected by the model number of the PSP it is dumped on.
