1.50 Kernel Add-on for PSP Fat CFW 5.00 M33

greg | October 18, 2008

Dark_AleX continues hammering out update after update — custom firmware 5.00 M33 for all, PspStates for the Slims, and now the 1.50 kernel add-on for the Fatties.

First, a couple notes –

  • the installer deletes LocationFree TV (LFTV) and the Korean font
  • the installer also deletes “flash0:/dic/apotp.dic” in order to free space for the 1.50 kernel; it’s believed to be the predictive text for Japanese; it isn’t needed for normal operation
  • if you want to keep these files deleted by the 1.50 installer; do the following:
    1. install DC7; use the Format flash options in nand operations menu; make flash1 size around 1MB smaller, make flash3 the smallest possible, and make flash2 a bit smaller (not too much or you won’t be able to download stuff from PlayStation Store); make flash0 as big as possible and continue.
    2. install CFW 4.01 M33; update to 5.00 M33.
    3. install 1.50 add-on; dump 5.00 using the latest PSARDumper; flash the deleted files you want back.

Why do people need this? Most apps use 2.xx or higher and timemachine or eloader can run any 1.5 homebrew. Great job dax but its not needed anymore.

Comment by RainMotorsports
2008-10-18 16:53:36

eloader can run some but not all 1.50 homebrew, that said i believe the only things that dont work are the same ones that wont run under time machine.

Comment by c74gta4smash
2008-10-19 10:50:19

Anything that doesn’t work on eloader works on timemachine. Timemachine runs everything from V1.5 irshell to the original SNESTYL.

You must have messed something up on your own. CFW 5.00 would do nothing to prohibit you from playing ISOs.

Make sure you have your drivers set to SonyNP9660, M33 or OE (no UMD drivers).

whenever i try to install it it says incorrect or inexistant 1.50 PBP at root. What do I do????????

Comment by nyr2k2
2008-10-20 13:42:01

You need to download the 1.50 FW update (the link is in the original post). Name the file 150.PBP, and place it in the root of your memory stick.

Something quick that may help people who get the “incorrect or inexistant 1.50 PBP at root” error. When you put rename EBOOT.PBP, to 150.PBP, there is no need to type the actual extension. So instead of literally renaming it to “150.PBP” try just “150″. Worked immediately after I changed that.

Comment by nyr2k2
2008-10-20 13:43:29

There are certain homebrews, emulators, etc that will only run on the 1.50 kernel. If you only play ISOs you don’t need it.

they still dont have custom firmware for the 3000 and you need custom firmware to run dowloaded games CSO or ISO files

I’m not sure, my guess is no, however you could try, just be sure to back up your flash0, wutch I have a question, does anyone know why I can’t unhide the module folder in the flash0 VSh folder?

Comment by Kirby_422
2008-10-19 21:28:23

You cant use waves *sniffle*

and you cant unhide module since it has 2 things hiding it.. its considered a system file, and it has hidden on it. So, even if you remove the hidden, it wont show. Go into Folder options, view, uncheck hide system operating files.

So, If DAX can make a 1.50 kernel add-on for the PSP Phat, then how come he didn’t think of making a 4.XX kernel add-on for the PSP Slim knowing that most apps WILL malfunction on the new cfw?

Comment by ThievingSix

Let’s just say thanks to dax for spending any time on cfw without whining about it.

Does anyone know if the new fw and patch still allow you to play psone iso’s via popsloader or can I get rid of popsloader???

Oh and quickly does anyone know if ff8 works without crashing on this fw/patch???

Comment by nyr2k2
2008-10-20 14:02:49

popsloader isn’t compatible with CFW 5.00. If you run a PSX game, it will use POPS 5.00. Apparently 5.00 POPS has spotty compatibility.

Quick question.

Used to update via WiFi, but don’t have wireless anymore and can’t remember the old copy-on-to-memory-stick-and-update trick. I’m on CFW 4.01-M33 at the moment.

Does the downloaded EBOOT.PBP (CFW) and 500.PBP (OFW) both go into the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder on the Memorystick and should then be run from there?

Cheers,

Frank

its working now, it was called silent hill origins then a bunch of other stuff after the name, i just shortened the name down and it worked, it worked fine on custom firmwares before with the long name but custom firmware 5.00 dont seem to like long names, suppose its worth people trying if they have similar problems
