Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 Released

To Sony’s face with the belt… Dark_AleX, world-renowned PSP heavyweight, has released custom firmware 5.00 M33 into the wild. Get it while it’s hot folks…
5.00 M33 changes:
- 4.01 to 5.00
- Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reset to 222 again.
Note to pspstates plugin users: this plugin won’t work in this firmware due to it being made specifically for 4.01. Running it in 5.00 M33 can cause problems, wait until an update of plugin.

ok, so heres an early verdict: PSP ISO’s (iso’s of real games of course) work on this custom firmware. But alot of other homebrew that pretty much rely’s on 1.50 kernel wont work. I’m sure that just like with 4.01, theres gonna have to be a 1.50 kernel plugin for 5.00 M33.

Full screen feature isn’t there osk isn’t that great and custom themes are no more and there may not be an update with the weird offsets in use. I switched back to 4.01m33-2

@Blind Man: No, you don’t need to update to any other FW versions first as long as you have a M33 version to start with.
@Everyone else: Doesn’t seem to work on my slim. Then again, all I’m running are .cso files, but not a bloody one seems to work. Not only that, but I can’t connect to my router anymore either.

Just reinstalled the CFW. Every single .cso file I have now does not work and neither does connecting to my WLAN. The hell?!
Have you checked if you are using the M33 driver or the NP9660? I noticed when I installed that it needed to reset my settings and therefore nothing started cause nothing was turned on :)
This might be a stupid question, but in the event if I don’t like the new 5.00 firmware, how do I downgrade back to 4.01? Do I just run the file from the memory card or do I have to run a downgrader program?

to fix cso and iso problems: you have to set startup into recovery mode (startup while holding power and right-trigger for about 5 seconds)
in the recovery mode, got to “configuration” and set “UMD mode” to “M33 driver-NO UMD-”
go back and exit, psp will reboot and all will be dripping nicely
I’m such a tool… I figured that out about 5 seconds before I read your post. Still not sure why the router isn’t connecting though…
Umm on my slim I just push the SELECT button to bring up the M33 VSH Menu and then scroll down and scroll across and it is done. :)

you can just press select on the psp in the main home menu and it comes up with the speed, usb connection mode, umd driver mode, reset the psp and some more, its alot eayser.
OMG ownage SONY got PWND in the face ridiculously quick.
SNES, PICODRIVE, SMSPSP, GPSP_KAI all work on my PSP and even some other plugins….but my CTF’s do not, so forget it I will stay on 4.01

router problems?
you have to re-enter the network settings, worked for me.
in xmb, go to settings>network settings and run setup
Did this. Also updated router firmware to no avail. Running a DGL-4500. Have it configured to run in G & N mode with WAP/WAP2 TKIP & AES. No friggin’ idea what’s wrong. Tried a handy PSP phat as well to no avail.

i was having the same problem, but then i tried spoofing my MAC adress and now it works.
Mine reset to the defaults so I had to put it all in again. Worked fine.
Is it my imagination or is the net running even faster through this firmware? I’m on a cable connection and my net on my PSP sucked so I generally left it alone but now it seems to move as a cable page should move. Freaking fast.

Had psp 4.01 M33 and tried to upgrade to 5.00 M33. downloaded both files, the sony 5.00 and the 5.00 m33 install. Followed instructions, just like the many times before with m33 firmware upgrades. The exctact went fine, the installer started, copied all the files fine. when complete install of 5.00 m33 it says press X to restart. PSP restarted, and opened up to the screen with MANY different languages telling you to hit O to reset default settings. Only problem is.. hitting O or any button, the psp stays stuck at that intial screen. Can anyone help?? I am looking for ways to fix without having to go buy a spare battery to make a pandora. First time this has ever happened with a M33 install.

I had the same screen. It reset fine though. yeah I lost all my settings but that was all.
From previous CFWs readme’s it says before you update to change to a normal theme, i.e. no personal background picture or anything and just the wavey line thingy, as if you don’t it has problems. That’s what happened here and it’s nothing to worry about when i’ve done it (twice now despite knowing this) but to avoid it just go to a default theme before updating.
i use this 5.00 m33 buy my psp tell that the game could not be started(80020148) my psp version is 4.05..how will i doo… reply me please

You have to use pandora to go from an official firmware such as 4.05 to a custom firmware. Go check out the forums here.
I think im gonna stick with 4.01M33 till the kinks are worked out and all my favorite software works (1.50 kernel!!!!).
i tried it but went back to 3.90 M33-3. i liked it, but i just can’t leave IrShell.

No just put the update in the game folder then run it might need to connect to the internet
better still,
make sure the network update option in the recovery menu is set to “M33 update” and then run the network update in the XMB.
the offical firmware (which you also need) will also be downloaded automatically, just follow the instructions.
Just tried it and the CSO files worked LOVE THE NEW UPDATE
My observations on 5.0M33 so far:
Most features seem to work OK on PSP Slim (ISO/CSO of PSP games, homebrew software for >1.5 kernal like PSPRhythm 8.0, PSPSeq 3.01).
There is one very annoying bug though, and makes me wonder if I should revert back to 4.01 M33-2 (and is there an easy way to do so – noob help here please):
PS1 EBOOTs are working fine for the most part for me (no FFFF errors like other posters are mentioning). But the CD audio in those EBOOTs that used to work ok, are now dead silent. The system sounds (i.e. EFX) work ok, the startup videos audio is audible, but the actual in game music is not playing.
I’ve got Air Combat, Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, Wipeout, Wipeout XL, Wipeout 3 SE, Macross VF-X, Baby Universe, and N20: Nitrous Oxide all ripped as EBOOTs. The audio songs in Baby Universe work ok (original on disc as XA format audio instead of standard CD Audio). N20 does not even display anything after the PS1 startup logo. You can hear some video audio playing (but not see anything), then after a minute or so the audio and screen are dead silent. All of the Ace Combat and Wipeout games startup videos play fine (audio and video), the games work ok with in-game sound effects, but the CD Audio music tracks ripped to the EBOOTs (which worked fine in 4.01M33-2 and before) now do not play any music whatsoever.
HELP!!!! (sorry for the long post, but wanted to clarify my problem in case DAX or anybody else has a quick fix for this very annoying problem). If it doesn’t work, I’ll have to begrudingly revert back to 4.01 M33-2.
Was able to revert back to 4.01M33-2 using Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher. Thanks to a kind soul on DAX’s IRC english channel for pointing me in that direction. Everything is working ok like before (CD Audio playing in PS1 EBOOTs, N20 playing normally).
Please, DAX or another M33 team member: figure out why it’s doing this weird thing in 5.0M33, unless Sony’s fubared it themselves for non-Playstation Store PS1 EBOOTs in the OFW 5.0 and therefore CFW 5.0M33. I’d love to have access to CFW 5.0 with the extra features, including the PS Store (if they ever release the Wipeout Pulse DLC in the US that is), but I’m not willing to give up basic functionality in playing my PS1 games for that.
Anyways, thanks for all your hard work, both past & future.
Final update with good news (almost a month later):
Tonight I decided to try again, this time with the latest 5.0M33-3 CFW. Installed 5.0M33-3 successfully, N2O was playing the video properly this time (not just blank screen with FMV audio). Still no audio in any of my PS1 EBOOTs.
I was able to get this to work, and while I haven’t done thorough testing yet (just a couple of my PS1 titles: AC1 and N2O), it appears there is a workaround to 5.0’s PS1 audio issues. Use the 4.01 version of the POPSloader included in the RAR files uploaded by ShaggyZE in the other thread a few news items above this one.

If you extract the .RAR files to the seplugins directory on your Memory Stick Pro Duo when you start a PS1 game you should be able to choose between about 15 different versions of the POPSLoader to start your PS1 game with, from 3.0-4.01, plus the currently installed in flash 5.0M33-3 version. I chose the 4.01 version, and my PS1 games appear to function completely normally now (as far as I can tell).
Hope this helps other 5.0M33-3 users with similar problems with PS1 EBOOTS.

did u follow the instructions? just in case, download the cfw 5.00 m33 and the ofw 5.00.
extract cfw 5.00 m33 and after that copy the update folder the ur memory card to x:\psp\game\ (x being the letter of ur memory card). then, extract the ofw 5.00 and rename it to 500.pbp and run it. hope this help.

Weird for most of you with errors. Mine installed flawlessly. I can run all my CSOs, WiFi works, no settings reset screen, all is peachy :D
BTW, I’m not currently using CFW, so that hasn’t been tested, but I suppose it’s a FACT that they have to be recoded anyways.
Oh, and I have not tried PS1 games yet. For some reason, I haven’t been able to recode an eboot properly ever since 4.01 came out. Maybe Impaler’s multi-disc eboot maker isn’t even supposed to work anymore and i didn’t know about it? comment here if you know of any multi-disc popstation eboot maker that does work. I have games like parasite eve and ff7 i’d like to still play :D

cfw 5.00 m33 is an add on the make the original firmware from sony to become a costume firmware. its still the same firmware but with some extras.

5.00 m33 is only the file that makes the original firmware to become a custom. that is why ur psp is asking it to download the original firmware so that it can install the original firmware and modify it to a custom firmware.

K the renaming must be done on FILE inside The renamed folder plus “thAt” file IS then put inSIDE the first installed update folder from 5.00M33 already put on psp. To simple still..

Really need help here. Mine was way behind like 2.xx version so being a newbie, I stupidly went to downlaod the version 5.00 firmware. Then now all my iso, cso don’t work.
Found this homebrew and I was really happy but after I have d/l the m33 cfw, I tried to run it but it says game is corrupted.
Am I missing any steps here? I was using m33 earlier but that was done by a dealer so I am trying to fix the prob myself. Pls kindly advise.

Press select in your xmb and change umd iso mode into: SonyNP….(few numbers) and then you can play your iso’s and other homebrew like the M33 updates!!
i dont like this firmware just yet. pops is broken so is cwcheat and cxmb. you best to stick to 4.01 untill the 5.00 cfw gets updated.

because it sucks!, come on! it does suck its like that thing was made for windows 95 or something plus its super slow, not connection slow but page download slow and at no time do i ever use it…

Firefox/Google chrome, and make it use your memory stick duo as a way to use.
extra ram (i give up 100mb for ram! trust!)
cookies (hummed in low voice page load 4x faster)

you know a side note to the themes thing i only use the one theme and that’s the one that make the icons in the XMB look like the icon on the IPhone and it works under 5.00 this is a theme i got off some site a long time ago and threw all updates it still work sweet *note this is not the thing that make it look like a full Iphone witch i find to be dumb but just the icons are changed

Mine has bricked twice while trying to do the update. Restored fine with DC7. Think my nand storage is fucking up. First time after trying to install CFW 5.00 M33 i can’t format Flash1 (just freezes). A nand restore fixes this and then I install CFW 4.01 using DC7 fine.
Guess I’ll just wait for a while, see if anyone else is having teh same issue.

the 5.00 m33 update worked fine on my phat psp with 4.01 m33 … but it bricked my slim psp … tried nandtools by reformating the partitions and it still bricked .. tried idstorage tools and it still bricked … hopefully when dc8 is released it will let me upgrade my psp slim to 5.00 m33 … :(
Yeah me too. Did you use DC7 to unbrick? If so did it have an issue formatting Flash1 (like mine did)?

Need Help…my PSP version is 4.20 then i upgraded to 5.00, then i was trying the 5.00m33 version but it keep saying Corrupted File.

sorry, im new to upgrading. i just recently upgraded my sony firmware to 5.00 but then my custom firmware is still 3.90-m33 i think, and all the games that seem to work before can’t work now. And i copy the custom firmware 5.00m33 file into the update folder, they keep telling me that the file is corrupted. Someone help please thanks!

Ok i messed up, i have FW 5.02 by Sony, and i tried this and it does shop up in the game section and when ever i try to start the program on my PSP, it says, “The game cannot be started, the data is corrupted.” I have a fat PSP and i wanna play Final Fantasy Dissidia, but this came up!! If anybody helps me to the point where i can play Dissidia, ill pass the game on to them!!! Please reply ASAP!!!!!!

ok, recently rehacked my psp on 2-5-09.. apparently sony’s newest firmware keeps you from using most of the programs and game iso’s after the psp has been updated with their latest firmware which came out just a few days ago. i am now having this problem. anyone know any answers to this as i cannot use any of the programs or games even if i rehack it back to 3.9m33 firmware. also tried to give it the latest 5.0m33 again and still no go. was wondering if there is a new fix for this or if i am screwed now.

K let talk big boy talk. I’m using an old Fat CFW 5.00M33-6. Have a CSO that won’t run. Ran perfect on slim using same ms. No FatMSmod/then w/FatMSmod/ then w/1.5Kaddon no change. Getting 80020148 error. No issue thus far with any other CSO or ISO. What is the special problem I am experiencing. I can flat this back to any CFW needed. Just need fix. CXMB is also experiencing problems. I am sure that it is an issue with my CXMB ver. Can anyone help. I am posting in alot of spots for this one.
