PSPdisp v0.1 — use your PSP Screen as an Additional Monitor
greg | October 7, 2008
JJS.@ has something funky fresh just waiting for you to download — that’s PSPdisp. It’s like RemoteJoyLite — only the opposite. PSPdisp extends your Windows desktop using the PSP display as an additional or second monitor at a 960×544 resolution. Watch and learn.
There are four components working together, on Windows a display driver, a USB driver and the interface application which captures the screen, compresses it and sends it over USB to the PSP. On the PSP side there is an application that decompresses the frames and displays them. All settings are adjustable from the Windows side, the PSP really only acts as a passive display.
Download: PSPdisp v0.1
(includes Windows installer, drivers, PSP binary, source, etc…)
- source: jjs.at
Much thanks to moditripit and PiercedDooD for the tip.

Thats fking awesome. Will use! : ]
will both the remote joy and this work a the same time, or will this ones driver take over the remote joys?
r u stupid? course not
thanx for the info, but you don’t need to be an ass, I thought it might use a different driver other than PSP type B, well, more like hoping :P
You know, that’s also the first thing I thought reading your question!
It was funny, ‘couse the way you asked was like “Can I have my computer show my PSP screen displaying my PC screen (showing my PSP screen displaying my PC screen (…))?” Endless loop!
No, really, why would you want to do this?
It does work, but it gets soooo slow
well, this is one way to run windows on ur psp lol
And why is that useful, I can`t find any positive thing in this?
i would like to see you develop something like this + you’re not the only one in the world with a psp – respect to the developer! awesome job
he’s just asking a question, you’re being the c*ck here
Even the world’s best turd is still a turd. If he doesn’t see any benefit by using this, he doesn’t see any benefit. All he was doing was expressing it. I don’t see much reason to use this, either. Props to the developer, but I have no use for this, just like None02.
F#$K U! was also expressing himself. Get over it. Id see this as a way to see my desktop while im playing pc games.
Well… I’ll use it with my HTPC so I don’t have to turn on my projector every time I want to listen to music.
I use it to display emails, control music, news etc. So my desktop isn’t so crowded.
well for one thing this would be really awesome for a car pc project not only psp but pc screen also
i see ppl pointed out some usefull ways of using it, and by any means I didnt want to insult maker of this homebrew, just I didnt quite get why should ppl use it. Ok it is an addtonal screen, but i dont see myselfe in using this. Anyway props to maker
This is freaking sweet!!!… Now I can use one of my other 4 psp’s as a second monitor with video surveillance. Of course using a Video capture card installed.
Good work.
also that DDR song was pure win
That was Silent Hill 3’s theme song, just fyi. (i know it was ported over to ddr afterward since they apparently have a tough time coming up with decent songs nowadays)
i wonnder what might happen if you use Remotejoy and that at same time :P
U couldn’t… How could u start both programs at the same time?
you use the lite plugin, and run the app…
I think the they both use the PSP type b, driver, so you can’t have both remote joy and this running at the same time
What possible reason is there to run them both?
just plug it in your usb hub ?
thats awesome!! the only problem is…my psp is bricked, and its getting repaired.
nice though ;)
Anyone got this to work on vista 32bit?
I cant get it to recognize the display driver, even if vista says its installed correctly, the app doesn’t recognize it.
Any ideas?
It doesnt work on vista!
geez, read the readme, or at least the source, the same to the guy 2 comments below
shut the fuck up and let them have their fun,
Object Pascal coder =D. So few of us..
not working in vista for me….display driver is incompatable
well mine is working, but somethings wrong with it, the image keeps freezing over and over again, its like it freezes for 10 seconds then it comes back for 5 seconds then it freezes again for 10, and so on
;( i was hoping that i could use it to display some pc stuff on it
Maybe stupid, but… does your computer have a USB 2.0 port? Because it seems you have it connected on a USB 1.0/1.2!
Try another port and/or bypass the USB hub if you have one.
Hmmmm there are no words to discribe this so im forced to make one up……Scrumdulecent
good work
-TKG
This is the most impressive homebrew i’ve seen in years! I now have 3 displays and finally have a place for my damn winamp player :D this is amazing I pledge a 20 dollar donation upon v1.0
Seriously!!!
Keep up the awesome work devs
Wow! cool
I’m gonna try this out.
WiFi support would be uber 1337
all mine displays is windows, not any programs. i wanted to display my computer diagnostics on the psp, but when i drag the program over there all i get is the desktop, the program is open but it wont display, but if i drag like my computer or other window it shows it, any suggestions?
go to display properties, set up the psp ‘display’ so that Windows “extends to this display”, then re-enable the PSPDisp program.
ok, i did that and i still cant get it to display programs, even if i drag a shortcut over there i still cant “see” it, but its there. i then tried to set the psp as a primary display but it still wont display the programs. arghh!!!
i noticed the same thing, somehow it doesn’t display over-the-desktop layers, like widgets or the full google sidebar, try another program that runs in a window ;)
Seems to me that it has to do with the image capture technology it uses. Nothing you can do about…
Maybe it can be fixed in later versions!
when i load it on the psp it tells me “Loading ‘usbhostfx.prx’ …failed”
and “ERROR: Could not start the USB driver. Program quits in 5 seconds.”
red,
use 4.01 fw, also make sure you put the appropriate files in their folders on the psp
This is working fine on mine. 3.71M33-3.
ah, nah. thanks tho but im not chaing my fw to try an app
I’m using 4.01 m33 it has the same error about the usbhostf.prx does any one was any prob like this?
I had the same problem, i disabled usbhoustf.prx in save mode then it started working. don’t know why but it did
No Offence to the developer because i think this is a great start for something Unique but i think It’d Be alot more usefull if it used Wifi Instead of USB
my thought exactly! but still nice work
Wow that’s very nice! :D
Now I have 3 monitors *gg* but is it possible to use more than 1 psp as additional monitor?
That’s a great idea too. Imagine a multi-display PSP. haha
If it worked with wifi, I could control my itunes from across the room i think? that’d be sweet. If this goes wifi i will give it a shot but I don’t really view much use of it right now. Still great work
i think it’d be cooler if you could rotate the screen and move it to the right of the monitor instead of below, but still this is only ver .01 soo woot
mine is already at the right side of the primary display and not on bottom, i didn’t do anything, maybe is something you can configure
This wins my most useless coolest thing of the week! ^_^. Awesome app.
Ok, a bit of followup after playing with it for a bit, Im impressed, it was a lot better then I thought it would be, and i like how it gives control over refresh rate and quality.
As a suggestion, if at all possible in any way, the ability to be able to use the PSP controls to pan around… that would be awesome (though doubtfully possible), and secondly (although once again, doubtful) the ability to use the PSP for controls. As in, say when you hit X its the same as Left Clicking… I’ve read things that say that it is indeed possible to use the PSP as a controller… but running that while doing this… not sure if thats possible.
Still, great work!
SICKKKKKKK nice job. this shit is useful. keep it up
nice 1 ! the idea of psp being a second monitor to my xp desktop is preety dam sweet.
ahah nice as i’ll try this one out
Awesome job! Keep up the good work!
NICE! i’m using it right now. works really well with great picture quality. i’m surprised it is working so amazingly with it only be v0.1
looking forward to seeing where this project will go. :)
I have installed everything correctly it just keeps saying please install the PSPDisp display driver before starting this application. Even if it doesnt work for me. Its still a dam good idea
Would be greater if this could be made to work thru wifi or infra-red (for PSP Fat).
Useless
Yes you are
agreeded
Fearless
Hazardless
…
Were you writing words that end in -less?
Because if you are talking about the program, you should (except from shutting the f*ck up) read the first 15 comments…
yeah it works but why the screen is not continuos in mine?? the center of my lcd monitor is also the display in the psp screen???
Go into your display settings and check the box that says “extend my windows desktop” onto the second monitor. if thats not checked, windows just puts up a clone of your primary screen.
seriously this is retarded. Go buy a monitor or something… You obviously have the money or you wouldn’t be playin with a psp to begin with… Jesus Christ a lotta n00bs in here…
well hears a odd one i know lots of ppl are talking about it and like most i have nothing real to say… but then again i wonder if you did run something that went full screen…
as in FPS + the psp keyboard as the way to make the one screen menu work… is there a way to send full screen to this thing…
my idea is
use it as your monitor and turn off your main monitor then send the info wifi also some how make the analog stack move the mouse + eks (X) as your mouse 1 and more.. and then this mite just be something to look foreword to..
hmmm
P$P $199
Window xp+ pc $450
PSPdisp v0.1 $0
making Quake3 run on the P$P priceless!
for everything else thers Nintendo_DS (nintendo_dumb sh!t)
I just wish it would work on vista, i can’t use XP because of my quadCrossfire graphic card setup =)
Wow!! OK this is pretty awesome. Now the future upgrades possible could be the wi-fi which everyone has mentioned but also if this works at the same time as TV out . . . imagine the possibilities. Also, remember this isn’t just an extra monitor capability it’s a portable extra monitor capability.
I need help.. why does it keep saying
“please install the PSPDisp display driver before starting this application” ?
I’ve used the installer and it does not work.
Please help
You need to invoke the add hardware wizard and point it to the included display driver. I ran into the same thing, it’s all in the readme file.
Too cool!!
Media Player and MSN convo’s on my PSP so I can leave my work open on my monitor. Now this is slick!
This is nice, but is there a way to change the resolution it has access to?
My PC’s resolution is 1440×900, with this program as is, i’m only able to view the upper left corner, it wont follow my mouse into the lower right corner. Once i pass a certain point, it just stops following the mouse.
I have the speed set to continuous, and the quality to lowest.
A possible driver modification or resolution override would be nice. Or simply allow all the common resolutions.
same with me. but smaller screen. only shows top left screen
damn now im forced to install my Utorrent Windows XP pro edition so i can run this
kinda cool. why doesn’t it follow the mouse all the way to the bottom of my monitor? it resets back up to the top. i hope to see this app get better.
I love this app. I’ve been messing around with it all day. I would appreciate it if the ability to chose the resolution of the psp to be the resolution. Instead of having to pick the larger resolutions. I say this so that I can drag an app over to the psp screen then hit full screen and have it fill the psp screen. Currently I pull a window over there and then I resize it which takes a while to the correct size in order to perfectly fill the psp screen. Although for a 0.1 release this is outstanding. It worked perfectly and flawlessly on the first try.
ive installed everything correctly and the computer recognises it, but the psp screen says that its waiting for data!
any help??
Activate the app
Right-Click on the taskbar icon & click on enable
won’t work i use xp but it just sit with a blank screen how do i enable this darn thing
can u play games on your computer??? then itll show on ur psp??? i wanna play WoW on my psp. or will it be too slow?
yes you can but the frame rate will be very low on the psp unless you have a very powerful computer.
I dualbox on some mmo’s, but i dont need 30fps, i just need to be able to hit certain buttons at certain times without having to press the select-input on my DVI-VGA dual input monitor.
ATM the program is a great proof of concept but it’s limitations make it suck. But i’m sure this program will be truely awesome in the future.
OOOO SHIT!. Just my luck.well. not so much. lol
my monitor backlight blew out monday. lol i need this.will try
HMM maybe you can use this wifi. with Custom Firmware Extender or maybe the wifi Usb.
it doesnt let me view the entire screen in anymode.and after i restarted my comp it stopped
great work for starting off, itll just get better and better!
More space for your desktop
Awsome app, I will try it!
thanks for this great app, i’ve tested this and displayed my windows media player on the psp, one thing that i found is that i can play mp3 music, but every time i try to play an avi file, it crashes. Does anybody know why this happens? or maybe a solution? i can play flv movie files with no problem though…
again, thanks for this app. :D
It depends on the video output. Try using “System Default” with Media Player Classic (View -> Options… -> Playback -> Output under “DirectShow Video”)
Can’t get past this…:( “Loading ‘usbhostfx.prx’ …failed”
The error LOADING Usbhostfs.prx…failed is from CXMB. Disable it in safe mode to proceed using this app.
Hope that is fixed next release!
Got this info from user: zzk2001 over at qj.net
Actually, I had to disable USBslimcharge as well… I also disabled remotejoylite.
Can’t wait for the next release!
lolz this would be great for porn so you can hide your ”monitor” beneath your hands in case someone walks in on you….hahahaha great app!!
when i need to right click the app and click enable, it is greyed out and i can enable it. ive tried so many things and even tryed reinstalling it alot and still doesnt work. it worked the first time but then it like uninstalled itself or soemthing
what should i do?
This is great to show system temps and other usefull information while gaming.
Can someone explain how to install the display driver. I have no link titled Printers and Other Hardware in my control panel.
If you execute the executable in the main folder (it’s a setup tool) it will be installed automaticly (tested under XP).
very nice app! I know I’m a few days behind everyone, but I just got a chance to mess around with it.
Now if you figure out how to make it wireless that would be sick! I could see it being really useful if you want to watch a movie on your PSP and have it on your computer.
This app is great I can run my laptop from my dash board coupled with a remote this is sweet….although a mouse interface with the D-pad would be prime if it could do both at the same time.
-Tkg
is there a way to take pics when ur using it as another display..like..ur looking at something on ur comp and u want to take a pic of the screan using the psp
You obviously don’t understand the premise of homebrew.
Guys, i can’t seem to get the USB Driver installed, you know, when u run the PSPDisp on ur psp saying ‘waiting for data…’ and windows detects the new hardware. I’m pointing the configuration to the folder ‘driver_usb’ included in the installation folder…
works great, props to the dev. just a request if its possible to implement resolution change to 480×272 ( native res ) if there’s an update. fit screen is fine but would prefer native res. thnx.
awesome work for a 0.1 release!
Some 64bit Vista drivers would be greatly appreciated though!!!!
keep it coming!
hey im having the same problem as dani_dee
im using WMP 10 and music works, even with music visuals but as soon as i play a movie and drag it it dies.
i’ve seen ppl playing spore, fallout, and such on it, but wen i pull any graphic intensive video over, it just crashes
any ideas how to fix it?
To the dev:
Can you make a linux port for this? Also, is it possible to use this with the eeeBox? :)
Regards
