PSPdisp v0.1 — use your PSP Screen as an Additional Monitor

greg | October 7, 2008

JJS.@ has something funky fresh just waiting for you to download — that’s PSPdisp. It’s like RemoteJoyLite — only the opposite. PSPdisp extends your Windows desktop using the PSP display as an additional or second monitor at a 960×544 resolution. Watch and learn.

There are four components working together, on Windows a display driver, a USB driver and the interface application which captures the screen, compresses it and sends it over USB to the PSP. On the PSP side there is an application that decompresses the frames and displays them. All settings are adjustable from the Windows side, the PSP really only acts as a passive display.

Download: PSPdisp v0.1
(includes Windows installer, drivers, PSP binary, source, etc…)

- source: jjs.at

Much thanks to moditripit and PiercedDooD for the tip.

You know, that’s also the first thing I thought reading your question!

It was funny, ‘couse the way you asked was like “Can I have my computer show my PSP screen displaying my PC screen (showing my PSP screen displaying my PC screen (…))?” Endless loop!

No, really, why would you want to do this?

Even the world’s best turd is still a turd. If he doesn’t see any benefit by using this, he doesn’t see any benefit. All he was doing was expressing it. I don’t see much reason to use this, either. Props to the developer, but I have no use for this, just like None02.

Maybe stupid, but… does your computer have a USB 2.0 port? Because it seems you have it connected on a USB 1.0/1.2!

Try another port and/or bypass the USB hub if you have one.

go to display properties, set up the psp ‘display’ so that Windows “extends to this display”, then re-enable the PSPDisp program.

ok, i did that and i still cant get it to display programs, even if i drag a shortcut over there i still cant “see” it, but its there. i then tried to set the psp as a primary display but it still wont display the programs. arghh!!!

2008-10-07 23:08:08

Ok, a bit of followup after playing with it for a bit, Im impressed, it was a lot better then I thought it would be, and i like how it gives control over refresh rate and quality.

As a suggestion, if at all possible in any way, the ability to be able to use the PSP controls to pan around… that would be awesome (though doubtfully possible), and secondly (although once again, doubtful) the ability to use the PSP for controls. As in, say when you hit X its the same as Left Clicking… I’ve read things that say that it is indeed possible to use the PSP as a controller… but running that while doing this… not sure if thats possible.

Still, great work!

as in FPS + the psp keyboard as the way to make the one screen menu work… is there a way to send full screen to this thing…

my idea is

use it as your monitor and turn off your main monitor then send the info wifi also some how make the analog stack move the mouse + eks (X) as your mouse 1 and more.. and then this mite just be something to look foreword to..
hmmm

P$P $199

Wow!! OK this is pretty awesome. Now the future upgrades possible could be the wi-fi which everyone has mentioned but also if this works at the same time as TV out . . . imagine the possibilities. Also, remember this isn’t just an extra monitor capability it’s a portable extra monitor capability.

This is nice, but is there a way to change the resolution it has access to?

My PC’s resolution is 1440×900, with this program as is, i’m only able to view the upper left corner, it wont follow my mouse into the lower right corner. Once i pass a certain point, it just stops following the mouse.
I have the speed set to continuous, and the quality to lowest.
A possible driver modification or resolution override would be nice. Or simply allow all the common resolutions.

I love this app. I’ve been messing around with it all day. I would appreciate it if the ability to chose the resolution of the psp to be the resolution. Instead of having to pick the larger resolutions. I say this so that I can drag an app over to the psp screen then hit full screen and have it fill the psp screen. Currently I pull a window over there and then I resize it which takes a while to the correct size in order to perfectly fill the psp screen. Although for a 0.1 release this is outstanding. It worked perfectly and flawlessly on the first try.

2008-10-09 12:33:02

yes you can but the frame rate will be very low on the psp unless you have a very powerful computer.

I dualbox on some mmo’s, but i dont need 30fps, i just need to be able to hit certain buttons at certain times without having to press the select-input on my DVI-VGA dual input monitor.

ATM the program is a great proof of concept but it’s limitations make it suck. But i’m sure this program will be truely awesome in the future.
