PSPHUGO v1.0.2 Released: TurboGrafx 16 Emulator Updated

greg | September 18, 2008

We told you he’d be back, a little sooner than expected actually… But that’s nothing to complain about, nor is PSPHUGO version 1.0.2. Today ZX-81 shares his much-improved TurboGrafx 16/NEC PC Engine emulator for all the retro console lovers out there.

TurboGrafx 16 Splatterhouse

PSPHUGO v1.0.2 changes:

  • Rewrite sound engine using part of code from Hugo-Wii port version, it is now much closer to real PC Engine sound.
  • Fix sprites display glitches in Gunhead and several other games
  • Fix save state issue in all games (it was a miracle if that worked)
  • Improve global emulation speed (full speed in many games at 266Mhz!)
  • Add a new overclock option resulting in a faster emulation speed (but if you encounter any graphical glitches then you may have to set overclock to 0 and increase PSP clock speed instead)
  • Improve file requester with virtual keyboard to choose sequentially rom files beginning with a given letter
  • Volume booster
  • Bug fix in the keyboard menu (joystick keys)
  • Add documentation for settings in help menu

I second that…one of the most versatile coders out there for emulators on the psp. Thank you very much for all the hard work you put into this community!

Not for everyone, but you last update with playing spatterhouse made it easy now to find the correct control makes it a little harder. The music has no problems and no more glitching :) I love it!

Thank you ZX-81, excellent work. I wish you give an Amiga emulator your attention in the future. You are real blessing for the community.

Is it me, or is this Emu impossible to assign controls for? I can’t play Soldier blade without being forced to use the analog stick. Also, this emu is buggy as hell. I’ve had random crashes, saving and loading problems, and not being able to properly reconfigure your controls to your liking is a huge let down. In fact, I don’t notice a single difference between this update and the last release. There should at least be some indication in the emu itself (and not just the changelog) that the program has indeed been “updated”. And am I the only one who keeps seeing Bonk’s Adventure briefly load up every time the program starts?

Shit sucks. Can’t play certain games without being forced to use analog, emu is buggy as hell with save/load state issues, and it keeps loading Bonk for a split second everytime the program starts. I don’t see a single noticable improvement over the last release. At least show what version it is somewhere in the emu so I can know I’m supposedly play the “improved” version. Maybe next release should change the boot screen to say “PSP Hugo V1.0.3: This one actually works!”

rite ,very good to see the man him self working on something meaty other than a caclulator emulator, and zx has choosen a great console to emulate and from past releases,zx does get things perfect.

zx ,i hope you go on to do snes and get it sorted out and also in the future pce cdrom
just for that dracula game everyone likes !!!
na man ,ditch pce cdrom, one game doesnt justify the need for all that hard work, what i would really like to see is a complete nintendo and sega emu,all in one.

and one last thing ,near perfect pce and pce cdrom emulator is out there for psp,its called {E}mulator …..
