RemoteJoyLite v0.15 Released — PSP “TV out” via USB connection

greg | September 7, 2008

Update: If you’re stuck at a black screen with “WAITING” printed across the top right, then you must download Custom Firmware Extender v2.2 (below) and install the appropriate ‘”PSP” Type B’ USB driver.

Thanks Amrish.

You may or may not recollect TyRaNid’s PSP dev. tool: RemoteJoy. Essentially RemoteJoy provides “TV out” capabilities over a USB connection with your PC. With that said — non-Slim owners and non-FuSa users — you too can now experience PSP on a larger scale.

Japanese developer, Akind (correct me if I’m wrong?), has taken TyRaNid’s project and has further optimized it for us end-users. Packaged in the form of a small PRX plug-in and Windows executable — we have RemoteJoyLite.

Sadly, I can’t provide a screenshot for you; RemoteJoyLite doesn’t seem to function under Parallels on my Mac. Although, I did stumble across this YouTube video demonstrating the dopeness:

RemoteJoyLite v0.15 [translated] changes:

  • “SceCtrlLatch” related to behavior modification.
  • Image-transfer method (TYPE2, TYPE3) added.
  • HOME POPS button on a good behavior.
  • Gamma correction added.

after you install the stuff on your psp,

I just moved the drivers to the system32 folder on the computer, and then connected the usb and pressed (music note)+ right button and the computer recognized it as a different device (not mass storage) so when the installation setup came up I just directed it to the folder with the dll file.

then open the start remote joy file (sometimes it was weird starting, not sure if it’s better to start it up on the pc or psp first. try pc then psp though. worked for me.

i had that problem too, my psp memory stick came up as PSP while the remote joy came up as PSP 2, you just need to install the remote joy 0.18v and then you wont even the the custom firmware extender.

Well I’m using Vista so the way I installed it way basically the way that the dude in that the video (below) also did it (although if you don’t have the driver installed already you don’t need to worry about the uninstall bit). It would be quite similar if you’re using XP or others. Other than that you just need to put the prx reference in your VSH, POPS and GAME .txt files in SEPLUGINS (at least that’s what I did) and then activate it recovery. Then just powerup your PSP while your USB cable is connected and then run the program from your PC.

Hope that helps :)

that this thing works

Really, wonder why sony did not make/come up with this in the first place because….

But don’t it make you wonder? Why did something like this take so long…

Ahhhhh!…

I found this while looking for some info on this program. Found out you could previously run RemoteJoy on slims with out the lite version. This is new news to me but prolly isnt to some of you guys. I never really had the need for it but it is cool none the less.

Actually remotejoy4iRS works not quite well(if you don’t have IrShell) for saving and loading and the joymap part of it doesn’t perform as it was.

But you have to try this one(remotejoylite) its like your using IrShell without the hassle of configuring your PSP and Controller(PS2,PS3,XBOX and generic USB controller) and to top it all direct recording in AVI file.

Who ever created Remotejoy, Thanks
And to the one who improved remotejoylite, keep it up.

hey does anyone know here to find what the “mode menu” means in english in remotejoylite i want to see what options i can configure (maybe there’s a way to increase the framerate?)

p.s. the remotejoy has always been slow with phats (a few or even 10 frames behind) it has to do with the crappy usb and the fact that their motherboards weren’t supported properly for this (less ram then slim), the slim always will perform better with this but don’t fret because i’m sure they will fix the framerate issue, it will just take some time and patience

No one has mentioned it, but if you press ESC, you get to a menu where you can setup controllers to use on the psp.

I have to say, this is perfect. I have an XP media center that i run my tv off of and I also have a ps2->usb adapter, so on my tv, i’m playing the psp with the ps2 controller at full speed using a phat.

Thank you soooo much!!

Also, I am getting 30 fps on the phat, i had to change my usb cable and usb port, but it is definitely running FULL speed.
another cool little thing is that now i can do “remote play” on my tv to my ps3 (which is in our living room)

This doesn’t support game play right?

or is it because I need “If you’re stuck at a black screen with “WAITING” printed across the top right, then you must download Custom Firmware Extender v2.2 (below) and install the appropriate ‘”PSP” Type B’ USB driver.”

It works but comes off when I click a game :(

you need to create (or edit) your game.txt in your seplugins folder. just point to remotejoylite.prx like you did with the vsh.txt and make sure to enable it, then it’ll work for games, it’s not supposed to work correctly with pops, but i guess there’s a way.

Has anyone else found that the USB Transfer under settings won’t work as long as Remotejoy is enabled. I’ve had to reset the PSP every time and boot into recovery to use the USB Transfer.

Comment by Tim S.
2008-09-08 21:24:42

yes i know that because you have to uninstall the original usb driver that performs this function, and instead it replaces the data transfer with an image transfer, this is one of the downsides of the plugin, but it’s only a minor inconvenience plus if you keep back ups and time machine and such on i wouldn’t worry about it,

and moditripit i’m running xp sp3 too, i’m using my 2.0 port though because my printer is plugged in their, and true 2.0 cable eh? i’ll have to pick one up, i only have a transfer and charge cable (it’s not 1 , but 2.0 like it’s says since the cable is splt between transfer and power so it’s more like 1.5???wtf i know???) from my action replay kit

This shit doesn’t working. Can’t load games. At the begining of the instalation I added “ms0:/seplugins/RemoteJoyLite.prx” in game.txt and vsh.txt. Then enable it from plug-ins. I enabled only remotejoyshit.prx Then I installed the driver from cfe 2.2. It’s working but only in XMB and the usb doesn’t working Under IRShell everything is working. I can say that You miserable Japanese fag !!! Make it working at 100 % and then release it. And make readme.txt file you lame ass

alright dudes read all the posts before using, and again warning this plugin disables your usb connection function through the xmb, if you need to access your usb use the recovery mode, and do not disconnect your psp at all when uninstalling the old driver or installing the new one

also if your having trouble uninstalling the driver for xp, go to control panel, then click open the system icon, then select the hardware tab, then click the device manager button, then either open the “other” or “usb” list (it depends upon your computer which you’ll have it may even have something different) then right click on the usb type b and select un-install,

alright now installing the new type b driver (alright now you may be thinking wtf their both the same because of their name, but no they are different) connect your psp again (just restart it and it will connect by itself), alright now the computer should automatically bring up a hardware install window, choose “install from a list or specific location (advanced)” option, hit the “next” button, now click “search for the best driver in these locations”, now make sure that “search removeable media” option is off/ no checkmark (this is just a waste of you time since it takes a bit for it to search for an install disc/floppy that doesn’t even exist),
now click/checkmark “include this location in the search” option on and then hit browse and search for the folder containing the driver either and choose either the usb_driver(recommended for phat users), or the usb_driver_64x (recommended for slim users), now hit the “next” button again (the search may take a minute or two depending on how many files/folders your computer has to look through to find it), after it done it will say finished installing (it installs it as it searches), their you go now you have the proper usb type b to play remotejoylite with, just follow the instructions in the readmes for the remotejoylite and custom firmware extender in order for them to work right,

@ neofreak, this plugin does work with other ones turned on just so you know, but remember that the psp can only support up to 5 different plugins in each .txt file no more, so it won’t work if you try activating 6 or more also add them into your .txt file in the order of how important they are too you

@ everyone remember that trying this out on your slim is a waste (unless you don’t have a tv), just use your regular tv-out, no point in disabling your usb in your xmb menu for no reason

p.s. yes i make very long posts and they will hurt your eyes from reading them, but you’ll benefit from it in the end, i’m also on the forums @ pspqweber.com if you need more help my username is LordBane999 just either make a post or p.m. me there, just remember to say that you came from this site

This certainly is a lot better than earlier RemoteJoy builds! I can at least play Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2 — AND disable the PSP display with the hold+ prx with no issues! I’ve also tested:

Legend of Heroes III: Song Of The Ocean
(occasionally crashes at the save menu — it’s a gamble)
FFVII: Crisis Core
(occasionally crashes when loading areas)
Gurumin
(guaranteed to crash before the title screen finishes loading, inbetween areas, and selecting an area)
Vantage Master Portable
(works)
PaRappa The Rapper
(butter butter butter, joins the bowl… yeah, it works)
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
(game screen is black on PC, pause/menu screen loads though — playable on your PSP, but pointless to use your PC just for menus)
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
(no issues, so far)

I’ve also tested this on jPSN games — or have attempted to. The PRX won’t load for jPSN games, in spite of adding the PRX to POPS.txt

Someone should write a compatibility list. ;) I’ve technically started, but my game list for the PSP is slim compared to many others. (15) I’ll try Gradius Collection and a few others soon.

alright read my earlier post, to see how to install a type b driver (like wtf it isn’t hard, second as i recommended use just the usb driver with the phat not the 64x it’s older motherboard might not be properly compatible with the 64x driver that’s why he gave two in custom firmware extender, remember your putting your psp no the moniter screen not the other way around, use what’s best for your psp not your computer, (and specs don’t have anything to do with it, because i’m running an outdated rage pro from ati that’s about almost 8-9 years old now and yet i can run this program find without any graphical errors, and my cpu is a celeron 1000mhz, so no complaints about it being your computer)
