Hold+ v2.63 — Save Battery Power
greg | September 1, 2008
Squeeze extra juice from your PSP battery life with Torch’s Hold+. Really, it’s simple — when the hold switch is on, your battery power stays strong.
Here’s how Hold+ works…
- Switches off the LCD backlight.
- Switches off the actual LCD screen. (This is important because the backlight and actual screen are two different things. You can have an image being displayed on the screen while the backlight is switched off, such that you can see the image if you use a flashlight. You can also have the screen switched off while the backlight still illuminates the powered off screen.)
- Under clocks the CPU to 61MHz (Sony has changed the clock speed functions such that only certain combination of speeds work correctly. Simply trying to under clock to arbitrary values will result in the CPU simply running at the stock speed. I have verified that Hold+ successfully under clocks to 61MHz.)
- The original screen brightness and clock speed are restored when the Hold switch is released.
- Prevents the PSP from going into suspend mode if you accidentally push the power switch too far when turning off Hold mode.
- Allows operation of the PSP with the display turned off, to change volume, skip songs etc.

Interesting, might give this a try.
holy cow. Finally I can enjoy my PSP as an mp3 player and enjoy battery life at the same time.
I’m going to cry from happiness now. I hate those iPod whores wherever I turn. T$%@ Fhem!
Torch you are my hero. My nights will be able to have more music now thanks to you
Nice work guys, this is a great tool for everyday use that comes in handy :), especially since my psp hit the floor and dies no matter what battery i use, at 33% :(.
I’ve been using this plugin for quite some time, and I have to say it’s the most useful one I’ve come across. It;s great not only for music playback, but also USB transfer.
Hmm but can the PSP play MP3’s with no lag while running at 61MHz?
Great app, but LiteMP3 does the same thing pretty much.
very useful great stuff
What happens when you play a game and the cpu switches to 61MHz.
WHAT the HELL IS THIS? This stupid Plugin bricked my PSP!!!! It now refuses to load anything! I can’t delete it from my memory stick and it still shows up in recovery mode. What the hell am I gonna do now? I’ve no idea how to do all this complicated pandora crap, and because of this piece of shit I now have a huge headache to deal with. From now on I’ll know better than to install shady programs and plugins from this cruddy wormhole. Thanks for nothing, “Torch”…
does it really brick your psp :O
i really wanted something like this since on mine the cpu speed goes back to stock when i turn off the screen…my battery is old and doesnt hold charge that good

@ that a$$hole:
u_u
ok, so, ive been using this plugin since v1 came out, & well, this plugin doesnt write anything to your flash0, so, its as far as it can get from bricking your psp, right now i have hold+ v2.62 FLASHED MANUALLY to my Flash0, & i g2say it hasnt gave me a problem..
try any of these thing b4 you go whining at some lame excuse for not reading the freacking readme:
turn on your PSP without your MS
if it shows up in recovery mode its because its stil in the GAME/VST/GAME150.txt plugin db or,
you erased a line from any of those files without de-activating all the plugins b4, & now the plugin you need to de-activate is the one that directly bellow the hold line..
Ok, now, if you “have no idea how to do all this complicated pandora crap, and because of this piece of shit I now have a huge headache to deal with”(Quote)…
Well, doing all that complicated pandora crap is a lot damn easier than installing a plugin, you just copy & press X a few times..
u_u..
@ the guy from above (Hey):
“What happens when you play a game and the cpu switches to 61MHz.”
the psp is “under-clocked” & uses less battery power, im sure most of the games dont care if you lower the speed, but ive had some problems with games like MxvsAtv, after underclocking & returning it to normal, the game get jumpy after you respawn or after it loads something up..
but that can be fixed if you move the stick Down while you lock the psp, olny turning off the screen & light (no under-clocking)..
@ jaryth:
Yeah, it can play mp3, at3 & wav files (& even some pretty lame quality vids) at 61hz, it can play them at speeds as low as 57 (if i remember right)..
Ok, so, what are the changes?
so.. yeah, thats what i got to say today..
& screw you if you’re trying to post something hurtful back…
lol, hi greg, blame this on a caffeine rush n_n
Booble: This is what I think. You sound like someone who totally deserve a lot bigger headache than a bricked unit. You should be gratefull for PiercedDood for trying to give you a helpfull hints, because anyone else certainly would not contribute to it. I personally hate assholes like you. Wish you many days filled with great fun of being yourself, because that is the greatest punishment for you.
You… epic fail… lol
“I’ve no idea how to do all this complicated Pandora crap”. Then Dont FLash your damn PSP
I doubt that its bricks psp’s. It would require to write to Flash0.
SWEET
I use my psp as my mp3 player soo much, I can’t believe I never knew about this app.
Thanks for this, my battery will <3 u
nice work! another one for the masses!
can one of you people who got this thing working help me? he didn’t say where to put the prx(guessing in the seplugins folder?) and he didn’t give the VSH text…..can some one help me here, please?
I tried it out on my slim and the only problem I’ve noticed is that when you come out of hold the clock speed doesn’t change back to what it was at before. I’ll still use the plugin but I’ll hold down on the joy nub so it doesn’t change the speed. I have the extended life battery so it doesn’t really affect me.
where did you get the VSH text???
You can fix it when you change your recovery options. Set default cpu speed to 222 mhz in xmb and 333 in game, then it will work.
When you use another option as 222mhz (or default, dont know exactly, but with 222 it works!) in xmb the plugin doesn’t change back the speed. :)
Works good. I remember when I got out of hold mode, while holding the analog up, it stayed clocked very low and everything was going slow, but then I rebooted, and everything was fine.
Whoever said that he bricked his PSP.. Lol.. WTF where you doing? He probaly put it in the VSH resource folder lol. FAIL! EPIC FAIL! Make a path in the VSH.TXT then put the file in the SEplugin folder. Easy shit, and im a noob. ;)
I found the seplugins folder but where is the vsh.txt?
make your own VSH.txt… just add a line at the top of the filepath to the prx
in other words, put the prx in you seplugins folder which will be in your root)and then create a text file named VSH.txt.
On the top line of this file, type:
ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx
save it and drop the VSH.txt file in your seplugins folder. The VSH.txt file makes it so the plugin shows up in plugins when you go to your recovery menu (by holding R Trigger when turning your PSP back on from a full shutdown, not from sleep mode)
make sure that hold.prx is enabled in the recovery menu and that’s that.
For future reference… the VSH.txt is just a text file with the path to each of your plugins… you can only have 5 lines in this file. You can have the plugin anywhere on your memorystick, as long as you have the correct path in the VSH.txt GAME.txt and POPS.txt are the same concept. VHS.txt enables a plugin in the XMB and when you’re in sony’s official photo viewer/music player etc. GAME.txt enables a plugin in game and POPS.txt enables a plugin in PSX games. In general, this can used to your advantage (for example, a plugin designed for use in GAME.txt can be used on the XMB screen if you put the path in VSH.txt) I hope all of this helped you understand this all a little bit better.
to add to my last post… the same applies to GAME.txt and POPS.txt… you can only have 5 lines in each of these files…
keep this in mind if you ever have a plugin that won’t work and you can’t figure out why… you may just have too many plugins. Also, some devs will tell you to add a path in VSH.txt AND GAME.txt even when it isn’t necessary. If you have too many plugins and want to add more… evaluate the plugins you already have and where you use them and you’ll be able to see if some of these lines are unnecessary. All in all, there’s nothing you can do to brick your PSP in experimenting with plugins unless they access the flash, which is pretty rare as far as plugins go. So the assh0le that bricked his PSP (if he even did) needs to stop trying to place the blame on someone that’s created an awesome plugin with great usefulness.
Thanks… got it to work.
oooh, thanx, I didn’t know about the 5 lines rule, that was my problem….is that changeable in anyway..because I have way more plugins than 5, please reply someone
alright guys seriously stop the noob fight he goofed his fault no one elses, by the the way your psp is not completely lost, alright download orginal flash0 folders (with the complete files included) from your model (ie. slim or phat) online, goto recovery mode, then click “advanced” now make sure your psp is connected via usb, now click on “toggle usb (flash0)” you should now see you computer bring up the flash0 folder of you psp on your moniter, now copy ALL the downloaded original flash0 folders and files to your psp flash0 folder, selecting to overwrite everything and after it’s done, toggle off the “toggle usb (flash0)
and restart and their you go, you shouldn’t have anymore problems
ps. this meant to flash only in flash0, if you touched flash 1, 2, or 3 you can brick your psp permanently and be screwed
unless you have a pandora^_^
I have a problem with this. It says I should be able to use the normal fuctions of the PSP while using hold like increase volume or skip tracks. It does not let me do this.
While the plugin works great, its just I would also like to be able to skip around tracks and control my volume too.
yes i have noticed this as well, technically what i think happened is that he mapped the operation feature the lock keypad feature on the same option scheme (meaning that if you press up like says while pressing the hold button it will just lock the keypad, but also in the readme he stated that this also is how you activate the feature to turn the screen off but still be able to operate), also in the problem could be with the flash, maybe like macspoofer it’s need to changes the order of sequence in the flash for it to work properly, meaning that when you push down the hold by itself the flash still tells it to lock the keypad which it shouldn’t if the prx works right
WOW!!! where has this been!
I use my PSP as an MP3 player when I go for my walks, and in school. Downloading as we speak!!
as for the idiot with the bricked psp, how the hell did you brick it when it doesnt write to flash.
