Rumour: PSP Firmware 5.0 (Beta) Available for Developers
greg | September 29, 2008
According to the fine folks over at pspgen, Sony has issued firmware version 5.0 beta to legitimate PSP developers. This will of course allow commercial developers to adapt and ready their games for the next major firmware revision. Per the moment, the details are somewhat scarce…
For starters, pspgen reports firmware 5.0 will include these three updates:
- Direct access to the PlayStation Store
- A new RSS reader
- An integrated “snapshot” tool; similar to FuSa screenShoot (?)
And that’s all we know for now… With respect to a release date, that also remains unknown. It’s speculated to hit around October with the release of the PSP-3000. Whatever the case, I certainly hope 5.0 sports a little more bang than those 3 specifics.

Upon popular demand Lokiare has made some minor yet valuable tweaks to his CPU-Modulator plug-in; the change log below details all you should know.
And yes — similar functionality is provided with weltall’s CWCHEAT; however, Lokiare’s CPU-Modulator is catered to this specific task only. Lightweight, less overhead — ya dig?
CPU-Modulator v0.10 changes:
- Modulates between 333, 222, 111, and 95 automatically.
- Removed annoying text onscreen.
- Added logging support (change logging=1 to 0 for no logging)

Comments (7)GPS Text to Speech for Garmin 60CSX
greg | September 25, 2008
Longtime PSP developer Art, whom you may recognize from such homebrew as X-Flash, has shared something I’ve yet to witness in the PSP homebrew scene…
In the obvious early stages of development, Art notes this program will eventually compliment his Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX with text-to-speech functionality. The finished program will also provide additional navigation details on the PSP screen; thus, two instructional screens to ensure you find your destination with ease.
Personally I’d like to see this app take off; stay tuned for more updates as they become available. Nice WIP, Art.

Comments (32)PSPHUGO v1.0.3: TurboGrafx 16 & PSPCAP32 v1.4.3: Amstrad CPC Emulators Updated
greg | September 22, 2008
The Z-Man one version closer to perfection… That’s ZX-81 sporting two more updates — PSPHUGO, the TurboGrafx 16 or NEC PC Engine emulator, and PSPCAP32 — the Amstrad CPC emulator.

PSPHUGO v1.0.3 changes:
- Improve global emulation speed
- ISO file support but sound audio track are ignored
- Screen size 320×240 is now supported (required for games such as R-Type)
- Add two new sound engines: mono (fast 22K or 44K) and stereo (accurate 22K or 44K). You may have to reset the game when you change between mono and stereo, and save states may not work properly. (few games are now full speed using audio mono 22K at 222Mhz)
- Zip rom files are now decompressed in memory (much faster!)
- Bug fix with D-pad (didn’t work properly in previous versions)
PSPCAP32 v1.4.3 changes:
- Emulation speed (small improvements)
- Improve file requester with virtual keyboard to choose sequentially rom files beginning with a given letter
- Add documentation for settings in help menu
