Kurok v0.4 Released

greg | August 25, 2008

It’s a few days late; nevertheless, I recently had the opportunity to kickback with MDave’s Kurok version 0.4, and I must say — Kurok delivers a serious amount of homebrew awesomeness. In fact — Kurok is so bad ass, that despite my tardiness, it deserves to shine on the front page.

Based on a modified Quake engine port, Kurok is a first person shooter set in a modern setting with fictional aspects, like some environments, and the addition of dinosaurs. The main objective of the single player/co-op game is to get through to the end of the levels, completing objectives and defeating anything that stands in your way. There are 10 weapons which the player can use, some with secondary functions. The player can run, jump, swim, climb his way through the varied environments such as water filled canyons, underground lava caverns, and army bunkers, labrotories and even lavatories.

Kurok features:

  • v0.4 introduces complete multiplayer mode.
  • 64MB Ram mode for PSP 2000 series Slim model, allowing for more textures and larger maps.
  • Colored lighting support for maps using .lit files.
  • Smooth model animations and movement.
  • Interpolated light shading on models.
  • Special blending modes for sprites and models.
  • Environment fog effect.
  • Alpha transparent brushes and models.
  • 32bit color depth for PSP 2000 series Slim model.
  • More sophisticated view & view model movement.
  • Full auto aim support.
  • Increased triangle limit on models.
  • Extensive control and video options.

dont overwrite ur psp folder if you have stuff in there, u gotta be an idiot to.
i got ps1 games, gba, snes, gb, eboots and other crap like that, that’s not worth overriding, just folo the psp folder until you find game (on both the files) the enter, click and drag torok into the psp’s game folder, and youve just, by the skin of ur teeth (remember that teeth dont have skin) avoided being a noob (the skin on the teeth thing implies that ur a noob anyway)
XD

u idiot…it overwrites and merges the folders ur shit won’t be delete but the new game will be added…ur old stuff will be deleted if they have the same name as the file u r replaceing with… for ex if u have and update.pbp in psp/game and u want to put a nother update.pbp in the same folder it will then be overwritten. dumbass noob. I would have been polite if you were to the above people. kthx u feel stupid bye.

This is 0.4? What’s 1.0 going to be like? Multiplayer makes this a must-have if it works, haven’t tested yet.

Actually, there already is Counter-Strike with online functionallity, called CSportable. But the online “functionallity” isn’t very “functional”.

this game rules, except when i try and load a save it crashes.

Any chance of getting a cross hair? or perhaps mgs style ironsights on the zoom? that would rule even more!

you can get a crosshair by going into the config file in the kurok folder and switching the crosshair function to “1″ in a text editor, like most pc shooters and ports.

You are the dumbest asshole if seen on here in a while, way to go, you send the human race back a few decades. And then you insist that he’s a noob! It sounds as if you fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.

This is awesome, but I’m having problems. After I reach the second base at the first level (with 2 guys standing outside) and I try to enter the door, I get a black screen that shows my recent actions, mentions the software version and says, “Host_Error: Program Error” and I can’t proceed.

THIS IS AWESOME

the graphics start off really bad in the beginning but don’t be fooled…keep playing and theres alot of cool stuff.

don’t even bother with the bow, it takes 1000 shots to kill something, just stab a guy and pick up his gun. this homebrew game even has STEALTH, you can sneak up behind a guy and stab him. or else he will shoot you in the face a few times.

oh and to play infrastructure you have to host your own server/get the IP of a server and then type it in. theres no ‘lobby’

finally…some 3D homebrew.

why do you need more ram for the bigger maps. Just make certain areas of the map load into ram from storage more often like the gta loading sign.

Actually, OS X will replace the folder with the new one, meaning that old stuff WILL be deleted. Not a problem for Windows-users though.

There are 2 problems I came across while playing. The first one being the save/load problem, making it hard to progress in certain areas without multiple save files. The second is when you are entering the lava pit with the 3 granaders if you make the turn to quickly you can enter the wall.

even with the few bugs, it is my favorite homebrew to date

well done sir

FAT PSP user on 3.90m33-3, defualt settings selected in game. The game seems to glitch up at the beginning of the caverns level after I jump to the third platform in the lava. Any suggestions?

Hmm… Started a new game. No glitch this time. Only thing I did differently was completed the hidden gun objective at the very beginning.
