Well I hope anyone that is going to buy this realizes that it’s NOTHING special at all. Your basically ELIMINATING a lot of functionality by letting go of any homebrew capabilities, for a few rather stupid and pretty much UN needed improvements. The mic for starters built in is fucking stupid, the amount of background noise it will pick up is preposterous and will be so bad it will drown out your voice. Screen is fine as is.. this is just an excuse to get people to buy the [probably] unhackable psp with updated KIRK engine.
Whoa relax there buddy. Sony has made a nice machine there. An open firmware sure makes is way cooler, but don’t forget Sony put skype on it, not the homebrewers (although I bet the homebrewers would have figured out video). Personally I’m really interested to see the new hardware. I’m sure the mic will be fine. The internal mic on my mac is probably the best one I’ve used (aside from the time I got silly hooked skype into my home studio. Stereo AKG 414s baby!!!) but I digress. Sony makes really nice hardware. Just… when are they going to stick the second joystick on the damn thing!!!

I actually do have all of the UMD discs for which I have the ISO’s for. I ripped all of them to my computer because UMD’s are cheap and break really easily, in fact since I ripped them they are all cracked at the top for some reason.. maybe oxygen is to heavy or something. They also load faster. I am most certainly NOT a pirate

at their press conference. Speculate no more folks, here’s the skinny.
According to David Reeves, the PSP 3000 will have its own built-in microphone,
and has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number
of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light.”

Yeah, it does look like a new wave. Honestly, sony has to do better for me to buy this one, I mean, from fat to slim there is quite a lot of upgrades and “advantages”, if they’re gonna just add a mic and a better screen (surely “faster load times” and “better battery life” and “even lighter and slimer?”) then it’s a no-go for me. They should add a HDD or an internal better cam, better flash or better software for that matter, or better hardware (CPU, RAM blah blah blah….) list goes on…

Draft N would be stupid and wasteful upgrade, since the PSP’s CPU can only render web pages as if they were coming through at 384kb/s. The G chip would be useful for the range though, though I doubt they could fit a MIMO antenna in a PSP.

I didn’t know that the latest slim 2K mobo was hacked yet. I’ll keep my mint/hacked white slim. I had the 1st phatty at midnight. Matter of fact I had 3 due to faulty buttons & all 3 had dead pixels.
I will just have to see/make sure this new screen ships w/ no dead pixel models. Sony can make some bad ass screens! You have to admit that. The mic for Skype? Who wants to talk out loud basically on speaker phone w/ a PSP & Skype? Over the net?
The SCEurope CEO said that they were going to curb the piracy of games. One step towards that will be preventing pandora batteries from being used/made on the PSP. The 3000 will likely incorporate this, as well as further system security to prevent hacking (on-line checks?).
With that said, i urge all of you to not purchase this system, and also urge you to urge others to do the same. Until however, this system is fully hacked.
Reason? The hacking community owns the PSP now. If the 3000 units take a footing and gain popularity in the community, while being secure from hacks, the scene will be on the road to doom, because then sony will own the PSP once again. ex. (oh my phat/slim just broke, i think i’ll buy a new 3000!)
I highly doubt this will get any footing or popularity due to the lame upgrades. Anybody that cares about homebrew won’t go for this. If it does ever get hacked then sony will once again lose.
If Pandora gets blocked then we can go the old fashioned way, find a bug in the firmware, exploit it, and install CFW, they did it with 1.5 they can do it now, but I do think it will be harder because sony knows how it was done and has safeguards in place for it, which doesn’t mean much though at the rate DAX is going, wait until he gets this PSP and finds a bug in it lol.

I don’t think we will get those features until they make an official PSP-2 which better also feature better graphics, I mean, give up on the PSP and go for the PSP 2 already. Everyone seems far too bothered. Theres no 2nd analog or L2+R2 because that would make think a PSP2, rather tahn a PSP 3000 model. New buttons make it impossible to play some games on the older systems. I’m still bitter enough about no skype on fat… forcing people to need a specific system to play games will just annoy everyone.

I wanted to see wireless N, a camera, a second analog stick, two more buttons, more RAM and/or a faster CPU.
A touchscreen would have been awesome because it’s too cumbersome to browse the web with the PSP. GPS would have been icing on the cake.
Instead, we got a microphone, which will probably be low-quality shit. The speakers will still suck. I don’t think I will get this for a shiny new screen. In the future, I hope we see a better update for the PSP.

Okay, If I recall, the problem is not that Pandora doesn’t work with the new MB (well, it doesn’t actually), but rather that the new MB is not loading it because it needs to be digitally signed by Sony, so we have to figure a way around that first. Exploits!
That’s the whole point since the beginning of PSP history. EVERYTHING is digitally signed in the PSP. The problem is version 1.50 did have a signature check. Sony didn’t implement it until 1.51.
This is why we have CFW. They all have 1 thing in common; a 1.50 base.
Right, but in order to write to this MB we need to have it run an unsigned (or signed by someone else) IPL, but it only runs if Sony signs it. So, the problem is how to get past this new MB without being signed to put on CFW. Just my two cents.

I got my new psp it has keyboard(lights up)
runs vista, u can play games like gta sa,and fear,has all the best emulators,and has intel,two cameras,bluetooth,touch screen,you can also put a game control to play games it has wifi,and wwan,biometric security,and much more its called a sony vaio ux 490n\c buy one , with all the crapy psps comming out you can aford one of these babies the fat psp was 250 the slim 200 and now the psp 3001 200 more do the math
and but a sony vaio 390 and have some fun.

Sony has nothing else for ideas on their minds…they don’t listen to the consumers. look at the sony ericsson cellphones for example. they basically are the same just a new outside look, a few upgrade but not much! it goes the same for the PSP. unless they will do better upgrades on the these things they won’t get the masses of consumers to buy this thing! You guys just KNOW the PSP 2 will debut in 2 years or less. Definitely by E3 2010. Dumping more money into the PSP format just seems like a waste at this point. If your PSP dies…fine…replace it. Otherwise, just seems logical to hang on to what you have and enjoy all it’s features and flexibility.

The only problem with new features would be that old stuff might not be playabe and even more people will be mad. Either way, new features or not, Sony will still be hated by whiny little bitches that want everything on their psp, but want it to cost really cheap, wtf, how do hell do u expect them to put 2 analog sticks, hdd support, touchscreen, Gps, and all that shit, for less than 200 bucks, come on, be reasonable people.

i agree with blinxRED on part of what he says. if sony were to put a L2 and R2 button on the psp, then how would all the other games work on it.
The built in mic actually adds some gameplay features since current hardware will support this feature natively, and you can get the mic with a remote for like $30 if you dont have them. Maybe the mic will be directional, making less background noise overall.
L2 and R2 still arent included, and it pisses me off. Some PS1 games don’t play well without them without changing the layout of the buttons. Why cant they just make a USB module that plugs in and adds these 2 buttons, and basically firmware update to include this function. That way everyone could them if they wanted.
Also, the PS button… it just replaces the home button or it actually does something?
man can i second your post! they let you run PS1 games without CFW so they actualy have a reason to build the L@ and RD addon. if it was only PS1 emulation for CFW, s0ny wouldnt give a $h1t.
the ps button if i recall was something sony wanted to add to make access to the ps3 easier, i remember seeing an obscure picture of a future feature like this, it was a one touch connect between the ps3, psp, and a computer(laptop?)
I live in Japan and I read the newspaper this morning regarding the announcement made by Sony. It stated that it is the same size and weight. The mic will also add the ability for translating software/functions. This is obviously geared towards the Japanese end user.
Skype is not so popular here. Wireless home networks are also not near as common as they are in the States. The Skype feature, for the moment, is probably more geared towards the non-Japanese market.
IMO, I think the mic will probably be of good quality. Personally, I use the built-in mic on my laptop for weekly meetings with family in the States, and it is rather good quality. Sony would be making a big mistake if they released it with a low-quality mic. I’m sure they thought this through before getting their patents for the system. I’m still using phat, but if the quality is good and CFW-friendly, then I will purchase it.

Well.. I’ve been paying for PSP UMD for 2 years.. I think I spent over $500.00 for 10 UMD. Well.. most new games cost around $44.99 CAD (+ TAX (13% Toronto)).
I definitely do not think it is cheap. If they could lower game price by 1/3, it will help a lot!! A LOT!!!
If a single UMD game costs around $15.00, I’ll definitely go for it more often
