PSP-3000 Announced @ Leipzig…

greg | August 20, 2008

…And its got the built-in mic and the PS button.

PSP-3000 Piano Black

Quoting John Koller –

  • The LCD screen will have a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors. As you all know, the PSP’s screen is a key strength of the hardware, and this update adds an absolutely dazzling LCD screen to the handheld.
  • A built-in microphone allows for Skype calls and multi-player gaming communication directly from the hardware - eliminating the need for attaching a separate headset.

Well I hope anyone that is going to buy this realizes that it’s NOTHING special at all. Your basically ELIMINATING a lot of functionality by letting go of any homebrew capabilities, for a few rather stupid and pretty much UN needed improvements. The mic for starters built in is fucking stupid, the amount of background noise it will pick up is preposterous and will be so bad it will drown out your voice. Screen is fine as is.. this is just an excuse to get people to buy the [probably] unhackable psp with updated KIRK engine.

Whoa relax there buddy. Sony has made a nice machine there. An open firmware sure makes is way cooler, but don’t forget Sony put skype on it, not the homebrewers (although I bet the homebrewers would have figured out video). Personally I’m really interested to see the new hardware. I’m sure the mic will be fine. The internal mic on my mac is probably the best one I’ve used (aside from the time I got silly hooked skype into my home studio. Stereo AKG 414s baby!!!) but I digress. Sony makes really nice hardware. Just… when are they going to stick the second joystick on the damn thing!!!

And to be honest I just thought about all the ways you people judge and run forums and how you will remember yourself and about karma.

When a new person or a person who isn’t really known throughout the community posts and tries to stand up for something they believe in or something that has happened to them, you bash and insult them with language that you would never say to anyone in real life. I know, most of you are still kids or 40 year olds with minds like a 12 year old. But be serious, is it necessary for you to insult and bash everyone because they aren’t as popular or they don’t have a big post count like you? I seriously hope Karma catches up to most of you and drives you off a fucking cliff.

I go to MANY forums and I’m on a few where its ONLY mature people and you never see things like you would on these boards ran by kids. You guys are just disrespectful and immature. Alot of you are prolly thinking this is your way of having fun, but to others its just bullshit and they leave because they don’t spend worthless hours making thousands of posts all which degrade and insult people. Anytime someone asks for help they get bashed, because its something everyone should know. Well guess what dipshits? Not everyone wants to remember themselves as the fat kid who spent countless hours on a forum bashing and being a total retard. Some people do actually come here for the support and help your forum offers but in return many of you flame and show them how stupid you are. Just because you have a higher post count doesn’t mean you can ramble through the forums and slur every new member.
Posting things that may or may not hurt the feelings of people you will never meet will only run your karma bank in the red.

Don’t be shocked when someone you did ‘get to (By this I mean with your words, posts, etc..)’ stands up for his or her self because of something someone posted. At the very least give that person a chance to speak without scrutinizing every single word. So why make fun of someone who may be a generally good person just because he or she isn’t as educated. You should be ashamed of yourselves, those of you that poke fun at the grammar and English of someone who did have the balls to speak up.

Face it you just want it hacked to STEAL games off the net or any other source for free. You’re just a damn pirate. All I have to say is, if you’re gonna have an ISO, you better fucking have the game, else you’re nothing more than a thief.

I hope DAX doesn’t hack the new PSP. If he does, I hope he removes ISO support. It’s because of it that the PSP scene isn’t doing a great as it should be.

Are you new or something? everyone who hacks the system uses iso, and why would they have an iso and and the game, that makes no sense.

and if you don’t DAX to hack or have a problem with it why are you on this site, your whole post is a reason your ass shouldn’t be on this site.

using iso whilst you have the original disc makes a lot of sense actually.

iso + original disc == perfectly legal and not killing the psp

iso - original disc == Highly illegal theft (not piracy as that glamourizes the whole warez scene) and killing the psp

@jake: You calling _me_ an obnoxious asshole? If so I’d like to meet you on the street so that you can tell me that to my face!

@Mike_501: I can get original UMD’s here in the uk starting at around £10 and the dearest I have seen is £30, so don’t give me the bullshit that original games are expensive.

I will say that the quality of games for the PSP is getting pretty poor, but what do you expect when everybody is downloading all of the latest releases.

Please remember people, the warez scene has nothing to do with the psp dev scene at all so stop lumping the two together.

dude if it wasn’t for illegal downloading, then psps wouldn’t even get off the store shelves…. I know at least 2-3k in $$ that sony now has because of illegal downloads. Did they lose money on all my friends downloading the games for free??? Nope. They just made money from selling hardware that would otherwise go unsold because of the high cost of their (mostly) crappy games. No matter what you say this will always hold true: some people wouldn’t even buy the psp if they couldn’t get free games for it.

2008-08-23 08:49:42

It’s so true… I wont even buy a PS3 until I can download and play games for it… Until then I stick with the PSP + PS2.

But then again, people who download ISO’s of the net and play them are such a microscopic problem.

It’s far worse to buy second hand original games, it’s identical to piracy, as sony wont make a $ from you guys. There is probably a pretty big chunk of the normal users that do this, and they think it’s ok…

just think for all millions of psp’s sold there is a couple of hundred thousands running homebrew, and pirated iso’s.

I actually do have all of the UMD discs for which I have the ISO’s for. I ripped all of them to my computer because UMD’s are cheap and break really easily, in fact since I ripped them they are all cracked at the top for some reason.. maybe oxygen is to heavy or something. They also load faster. I am most certainly NOT a pirate

1)Youtube
2)Doom
3)better looking XMBs
4)pacman

not a single one was interested in PSP isos, so before you go spouting nonsense about “OMGWTFBBQ, people only wantz teh psp for teh free gamez, oh noes!!!” only a select few know how to make/get isos, right there, they might not know how to make them into csos, and with them being a gig an a half big, dont even bother puuting them on their memstick, even less know how to use them.

I would actually see a PSP with touch screen, like the iphone, and yes I do not like the iphone, the screen is to small.

And it’s not for playing UMD games I would see the use it.

Adding a 3G phone in it even would rock hard.

The ultimate device… :)

The event currently going down at Leipzig is now officially more exciting than E3.
Taking the ace out of its sleeve, Sony has just officially announced the PSP 3000
at their press conference. Speculate no more folks, here’s the skinny.

According to David Reeves, the PSP 3000 will have its own built-in microphone,
and has an enhanced LCD screen that will “increase intensity and the number
of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light.”

The pirce is still the same !!!
Sorry for the inconvenience. =(]
199.99 for a budle.

The PSP-3000 will be replacing the Mystic Silver colored PSP that comes with the
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters bundle. A 1GB Mem stick PRO Duo, National Treasure
2: Book of Secrets on UMD, and a voucher to download Echochrome from the PS
Store will be bundled along with it. The pack will cost US$ 199.99, and will be
released October 15.

Source:QJ

Thank you Blindy for letting me in on the info.

SCEA just announced the North American details concerning the PSP-3000.
The previously announced Ratchet & Clank PSP Entertainment Pack will
launch on October 14th for $199.99. It will now include the following:

* Mystic Silver PSP-3000
* Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
* National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD
* echochrome PSN voucher
* 1GB Memory Stick PRO duo

A second entertainment pack has also been announced called the PSP 4GB
Memory Entertainment Pack. The will launch in November for $199.99 as well. It includes:

* Piano Black PSP-3000
* 4GB Memory Stick PRO duo
* Everyday Shooter PSN voucher

The Piano Black PSP-3000 will be sold separately later this year as a PSP
Core Pack, which includes only an AC adaptor and battery pack for $169.99.

Yeah, it does look like a new wave. Honestly, sony has to do better for me to buy this one, I mean, from fat to slim there is quite a lot of upgrades and “advantages”, if they’re gonna just add a mic and a better screen (surely “faster load times” and “better battery life” and “even lighter and slimer?”) then it’s a no-go for me. They should add a HDD or an internal better cam, better flash or better software for that matter, or better hardware (CPU, RAM blah blah blah….) list goes on…

Well… Hmm. All in all, Im kinda disappointing. I mean, out of all the things (even simple things) They could have done… and this is it?
Like… sticking a Wireless Draft N adapter in there… that wouldn’t be THAT hard… but it would be so useful.

With all of the things the Mod/Hacking/Homebrew community have been able to do with the PSP, its astounding, and if you where to see some of this stuff back when the PSP first came out, you would have been blown away.
And even with all of that, it seams like Sony is falling behind. Then again, I guess with the fact that the Homebrew community is indeed doing so well, is the thing that id detouring Sony from doing some of this stuff, out of fear of how Homebrew will enhance anything they do.
meh… Im still using my Fat PSP, and I see no reason to Upgrade to the slim… but I might upgrade to the 3000. Still kinda disappointed… I’ve come to expect more from Sony.

Draft N would be stupid and wasteful upgrade, since the PSP’s CPU can only render web pages as if they were coming through at 384kb/s. The G chip would be useful for the range though, though I doubt they could fit a MIMO antenna in a PSP.

Wont it be better if you buy when it comes out and never update it until theres a way to hack it. Because what if there is a way to hack it, most of the psp’s will be updated to a newer FW. Unless the hack is a universal ubricker for this too.

thats always the best policy, if you got a PSP that can’t be hacked yet then just don’t upgrade.

the PSP scene is still going strong so that means someone will hack it and people who get it early and wait is usually the best thing. That is why I’m NOT happy about the new PSPs. stick with the original models n drop the price would of been better IMO cept that TV out thing should of been added from the start on the phats IMO

I will just have to see/make sure this new screen ships w/ no dead pixel models. Sony can make some bad ass screens! You have to admit that. The mic for Skype? Who wants to talk out loud basically on speaker phone w/ a PSP & Skype? Over the net?

The SCEurope CEO said that they were going to curb the piracy of games. One step towards that will be preventing pandora batteries from being used/made on the PSP. The 3000 will likely incorporate this, as well as further system security to prevent hacking (on-line checks?).

With that said, i urge all of you to not purchase this system, and also urge you to urge others to do the same. Until however, this system is fully hacked.

Reason? The hacking community owns the PSP now. If the 3000 units take a footing and gain popularity in the community, while being secure from hacks, the scene will be on the road to doom, because then sony will own the PSP once again. ex. (oh my phat/slim just broke, i think i’ll buy a new 3000!)

Comment by chewie
2008-08-20 17:13:21

I highly doubt this will get any footing or popularity due to the lame upgrades. Anybody that cares about homebrew won’t go for this. If it does ever get hacked then sony will once again lose.
If Pandora gets blocked then we can go the old fashioned way, find a bug in the firmware, exploit it, and install CFW, they did it with 1.5 they can do it now, but I do think it will be harder because sony knows how it was done and has safeguards in place for it, which doesn’t mean much though at the rate DAX is going, wait until he gets this PSP and finds a bug in it lol.

honostly I could care less for the microphone good idea, yes, but they’e not doing they’re best, how bout a better connetion, like wireles G or more RAM, not only the internet surfing is kind of… crappy, the microphone was added becaue of some comunication excuse, when you need to have a hell of a router if you wanna get wireles all over the house, so I sick with the W G, and some youtube(or the likes) will be most amusin, so yeah Wireles G and some more RAM

“prevent hacking” my ass. as long as they used a computer to build this it will be hacked sooner or later. they said the same thing on the slim and after a few weeks we got 3.60 M33.
