nullDC PSP: SEGA Dreamcast Emulator Clarification
greg | August 2, 2008
drk||Raziel sheds some light on the development of his nullDC PSP port… First and foremost, due to the obvious PSP Fat hardware limitations, nullDC-PSP will only be usable on Slim [and future?] models.
As demonstrated previously the current speed/FPS is very slow. drk||Raziel’s notes: there is no dynarec, no optimizations, and no single MIPS assembly line in the present source. The majority of code is based on the PC version of nullDC. So with that in mind, it will definitely take time to optimize and establish a playable state for nullDC on the PSP’s hardware.
While drk||Raziel believes it is possible to achieve full speed on the PSP, it could very well be a long ass time before we see it. Or maybe drk||Raziel and the other believers will be proven wrong. Are you a believer or a nullDC infidel? Talk amongst yourselves.

I will support you! doesnt matter to me 1 year or two year Dreamcast on a PSP will be soooo frekkin awesome.
damn im gonna sell one of my fat PSP’s to get a GOW PSP and mod the $h1t out of it, as soon as DAX finds a way to over come the TA-88 gayness -_-.
Sony should do what nintendo did with the ds browser and make a ram upgrade attachment for phat users who want to experience DC on PSP
This is homebrew… Sony is obviously not a fan of homebrew on the PSP, so why would they make an upgrade for us?
A ram upgrade for phat aint ever gonna happen.
There is no external memory bus available on the psp, which means no external upgrades, and the internal ram is part of the flash chip which has its pins underneath and is totally unaccessible without making a brick in the process. so no feasible internal mod neither.
Sorry for pissing on your chips mate :)
this will take more than 5 years to get to full speed unless they get a TEAM together to get a more efficient project.
Wow! Quad-post!
lol i was posting from my psp
FIrst OF all thIS some Straight up bullshit Look at the graphics Its a fuckin Sega its not like your trying to go for ps2 graphics or emulate xbox on the mother phucker and this shit is possible for phats 333mhz sounds good to me i say you all dont know shit about what your doing. Pull your head out of your ass and get to work look at this site Everyone is watchin GEt this shit out and on with Im straight up done with noobs asking about stupid questions like Doy Ps2 is better than psp No its not 1.8g games compared to 700mb look wtah the mmother fucker is capable of .Sony is under a regime form the underground they thought they had us under control but no mwuahahhahahaa
Sure, just as soon as you learn to type ENGLISH, not some stupid cross between gangsta and l33t.
uhhh thats pretty cool… it would be nice to see it run at full speed… props for trying if it doesn’t work out.
Why deny him? He does have the best Dreamcast Emulator on PC. Why can’t he try it out on PSP. I bet it will run pretty good on the slim. Give him credit. He doesn’t even have to try for some of you. GIVE HIM SOME SUPPORT!!!
oh yeah !!!!!
I have never used a dreamcast but you have my support.
i’m believer … go go go
id buy a slim just for this
Lets see if this gets farther than the Daedulus.
yes i agree! what ever happended to it? i want fully working ps2 for psp next lol u never know slim users might get ps3 emulator LMAO!
That post fails. there is not and never will be a ps2 emulator on the psp.
And there will never be a ps3 emu. NO NAME: That wasn’t even funny…
There’s not even a PS2 emulator for PC, let alone PSP, lol.
there is an emulator for pc …
seems like slims takin over.
Well! I’m pissed.
woot good thing i got a slim im cheerin u on
damn it, how much do the damn slims cost, I’m about to buy one because nothing freaking works on the fat anymore, damn I hate sony
Full speed of what? If he means simple 2D-games. then maybe it’s possible, but anybody want it? Just see the min. specification required for run the complicated commercial game(like Soul Calibur or Shenmue etc) under the emulator on the PC and you’ll know what I’m talkin’ about.
Only if he makes some kind of texture resolution compression in the game image itself or somethin’ like that, before using the ISO.
Sorry my teacher for my bad english.
oh bugger i wanted to see this on my fat, why cnt people solve the RAM problems, put the ram temp memory straight to memory stick?cause if they could set a amount then it could be converted somehow for the psp to hav better RAM, i know pc’s can do it so why not psp?
yeah like readyboost. Ain’t going to happen. But I do support this all the way. Even if the way is by using alot more battery life. Hell id be happy to just use it. =]
Nulldc ftw!
u forget that everyone said that about n64 emulation, sega cd,dreamcast but sometimes u got to hav faith even if there seems to be no hope
woooo, the only reason i love vista with all its g-damn short commings such as no logical formatting, 1. it looks great 2. READY BOOST!!!
Well i believe in this project, and its future…unlike daedalus i gave up hope when they released that beta version. we haven’t had an update from them in a year, and that update is only a “tad” faster then the previous -_-. well anyways good luck on the emulator; cant wait to try it out ~_^
didnt the creator of the n64 emu say the new PSP’s ram wouldnt help the emu run any better because as anyone knows, more ram doesnt equal faster computer or processing capabilities
Ok,the guy is REALLY working!!!He loves it!
He is a professional programmer for many years, being only 20 now!
I can see him working for a month and finally have it done!
If it is possible to achieve full speed on the PSP he is the one to fix it…
So,just relax and enjoy it!
P.S. Stefane vale me san beta tester!!!Xaxaxa!
Sygxarhthria re,epiteloys na antamoiftei ena meros twn kopwn soy!
I’m a strong disbeliever in this, but I HOPE that he at least achieves 15-20 fps from nulldc on psp from this. And I fully disagree that nulldc is the best Sega Dreamcast emulator on PC, because the only version that isn’t buggy is 1.0.0 which doesn’t have good compatibility and the 1.0.6 version is crappy because it will randomly not read isos and/or corrupt the flash files.
Chankast is the best I’ve seen. It ran full speed (For the most part) on my shitty rig.
Ya, the only two games I like to play are Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure 2.
Besides speed, what about controls? The dreamcast controller had 2 joysticks, a d-pad, 7 buttons, 2 triggers, and the saving device.
The dreamcast only has 5 buttons (A,B,X,Y,Start) 2 triggers (L and R) Dpad, and one joystick. The VMU (Visual memory unit AKA memory card with a screen) doesn’t matter all that much in the emulation of the dreamcast, all it did was show unimportant stuff on the screen, and there were buttons on it, but they could only be used when they were out side of the controller memory port.
I don’t think it’s possible to achieve fullspeed on a psp. The dreamcast had more power than a PS2, and ps2 on psp will NEVER be possible (Don’t quote me on that)
I’m sure it’ll make good progress though, it’ll be cool to see how this turns out.
uhhh no…
who needs a dc emu anyway… psp’s hardware is already awesome…
Because the DC had some very awesome games on it (Sonic Adventure 1&2, Shenmue, etc.), which would be great to have on a portable system. It just adds to the greatness of the PSP.
Don’t forget, Crazy Taxi.
Crap Only Slims?. CRAP!!! Well Guess I have to buy one just to play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, and of Course Marvel vs. Capcom 2 yes 2.
what?!?! slim only..?! *sigh*
Well, that’s completely crushed any dreams I had of running it. ._.
Then again, I suppose it should be obvious that it’s gonna be damn hard to run, with the Phat having a serious RAM limitation.
And yeah, what in the hell ever happened to Daedalus? >_>
But yeah, I’m definitely backing this guy, he’s done an excellent job of even porting Dreamcast to the PSP, something so many of us would never have thought of. ^_^ I hope nullDC PSP is successful.
i hope this sht works, even if it takes a year. by then ill have a slim. i have like 300 DC games and id love to bump them on the go. hit my link if you want DC games.
No phat? Fuck that.
Oh wait. I have a Dreamcast. I’m better than all of you.
OH MY GOD, you have a REAL Dreamcast, you are sooooo awesome, you are better than everyone, but wait, Id like to see you take it on the go. Douche.
Wow. Someone took me seriously. That’s pretty douchy.
http://web.archive.org/web/20060329012542/www.portablesystems.net/dreamcast3.htm
Eat that jerk arse. Also I have a DC as well… BITCHES. :D
um, if it’s only possible on the slim, and probably only ever going to be fullspeed (eventually) on the new (assuming they upgrade the hardware) slim, and the new slims are pandora-proof, aren’t we kind of fucked anyway?
But yeah tons of support, just ’cause it’d be awesome.
NOTHING is hackproof
If slims are pandora proof how do i have cfw 3.90M33-3 on my slim? Only the new slims are supposedly “hackproof” until someone finds another way.
chanka was fastest dreamcast emu on pc but unstable, lots of bugs and unfinnished code, the other dc emulators are simular but slower to run,tho better graphics emulation.
the psp cant ever run dreamcast unless theres a highly optimised windows emulator that has been coded for easy port.
same thing with ps2 and xbox 1 ..
you could get near any games system on psp but the psp limitations hold it back,i do however think the psp could do dreamcasr full speed or at least with light frameskip.
but, untill these consoles are fully emulated and highly optimised its a no go.
zsnes, best snes emu for windows is high optimised but not very portable so a no go on psp.
sega saturn is fully emulated now but would require a beast to run as it has many cores like ps2.
just get snes done correctly and mabe even get project64,new version due soon ported to psp and we can all be happy.
I beLIEve in Harvey Dent
it would be really cool to play shenmue on the psp i hope this will come true
If he can get Sonic Adventure 2 on my PSP with the ability to trade chaos I will do a fvcking backflip
i want this sh*t working as sonn as possible cuz dreamcast was fu*king awesome with some good as fu*k games but the only problem if it works is no 2nd analog stik
what are you talking about. dreamcast only had one analog stick.
For some reason people seem to think it has 7 buttons along with 2 analog sticks and the triggers and dpad. Some people are extremely dense.
can sum1 make a program so when u plug ur sweet hacked psp in to a ps3 it tells u what speed its running at an also what the temp things are at?
sounds lame but we dont want are ps3’s xboxing!!! (red ring! hahaha shit things!)
Goddamn Sonic adventure on psp would be badass.
i think this is awesome, but doesn’t chankast on the PC move faster than nullDC? it would be much faster if the code was based off the chankast optimization settings……just a thought.
Well it has been a while since the first post. Hvae not seen anything yet so hopefully they are still trying to get it working. Dont know how far anyone has gotten or if they are stuck but, if they have a PSX to PSP converter (take PSX games and make them a actual PSP game) then it may be possible to make a DC to PSP converter right? Why not go with that? A Emulator is good for Roms. They dont take up that much space. But if you have a Converter, you can make that into a EBOOT file like the PSX games. I got a ton of my PSX games for my PSP and it works perfectly (Granted some games dont work out all that well MK Trilogy being one of them). Also, think, the buttons are almost the same. if you look at DC and the PSP: Digital and Analog controlls, Start, 4 buttons and 2 shoulder buttons.
Hopefully I have given any encoders and makers some ideas if they were looking for any.
play real hombrew games stupids fuck,at the end how play th dreamcast rom more then 2 minutes,i bet if ther s somoeone,at the end ow doesnt like the perfect graphics,,,wake up’ssssss
