nullDC PSP: SEGA Dreamcast Emulator (Videos)
greg | July 29, 2008
Prepare yourself for nullDC — the SEGA Dreamcast emulator for the PlayStation Portable. drkIIRaziel, who’s responsible for the nullDC PSP port, has shared several videos confirming its authenticity.
Still under active development with no release just yet, the videos show nullDC to be rather sluggish. But hey, it renders nicely — sort of… Release imminent? We can only hope.
Search YouTube for more nullDC videos.

OMFG FIRST POST OMFG OMFG OMFG DREAM CAST
o_o
MAN SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
thanks greg, and by the way i cant belive this is going to happen…. i still havnt even seen a dreamcast emultor for anything else let alon psp
are you serious noob its on the computer and runs flawless
WOW I’ve been waiting all my PSP life for this ^_^
The psp emulating software that emulates off of that lol. It’s going to take time since it’s underclocked.
hope its ganna work, I LOOOVVVEEe the DREAM CAST!
very cool
meh… hope this works at a playable speed but after all the troubles with emulating N64 at a decent frame rate I wont be holding my breath. But good work though guys.
WOOOOOW! A Dreamcast emu, thas great. I loved my Dreamcast, even after i lost it,lol. hope this one ends up being a great one. Take ur time to get it workin drkIIRaziel. no rush, just do ur thing.
Dreamcast!! Nice!!
No way. This is awesome. Sweet.
has the psp got enough power to run this emulator?
umm, i wasnt suprised by this cause before i had a belief that this was possible, know that its true i can laugh at them.lol. but anyway cool cause i been dieing to play sonic adventure on psp.lol
dam……..the psp took it to a hole……..natha………level.
’nuff sed
Learn how to speak and write in english idiot
Amazing!!! Definitely some games I’d love to have with me on the road from Sega, especially since the PSP has enough buttons to cover the DC controller. Great work so far…definitely continue working on this one.
The PSP can never emulate DC, it’s simply impossible.
drkIIRaziel wastes his time.
There is still no full speed SNES emulator, for god’s sake!
And that IS possible.
but theres a working sega mega drive emulater which is more powerul so in time the snes emulater works fine
Wow! This suprised me big time! Both PSP’s work with this?
We dont even have a good n64 emulator yet, dont you think its a little too soon for a dreamcast one?
I doubt it will ever get up and working well, however good work i hope it picks up and eventually works. (even though i doubt it will)
I am having my doubts about this being playable at decent frame rates. As said before, SNES emulation is not at full framerate, and N64 is still a tad sluggish..just a wee bit.
The only real possibilities of a DC emulator working to a playable level would be that the PSP CPU is very similar to the DC’s (architecture, and call functions.) So it would be less of an emulation and more of a media porting. (Already ruled this one out.)
Though I will admit, even getting a 20-40% running emulator on the PSP would be very impressive.
They do have similar architectures:
Both feature MIPS based arcs with 32 bit wide registers, but even so the emulation is inefficient.
Awesome. Can’t for for this to be released (hopefully at a normal running speed)! If it works I won’t have to buy a DC for the few games that I want like I’ve been thinking of doing. Cheers, Raziel.
Yea! Go Piracy! Screw thos hardworking developers!
jk man, piracy is sweet…
sometimes, i wear an eyepatch and a peg leg while im on uTorrent, just to get in the mood, you know…. X_O
Screw Gamestop too, Mike…They’re the biggest crooks that deal wit games. Try and trade in a PSP (Phat or Slim), You’ll see…they’ll hit u wit “trade in credit”, some 10% bullsh*t discount on sumthin else for trading (which with state taxes ONLY gives u 2.6%), OR a refurb fee, saying that they have to send it back to the company for repair. (They love that one cuz they get to give u less money if u want cash back….slick bastards.) Oh, and every other Gamestop has different values for things u trade, so which ever one u do go to, they’re gonna jerk u like ur their boyfriend, lol. Gamestop is EVIL!!!! Long live PSP-Hacks; F*ck Gaystop, lol.
Daaaamn drkIII! Way to pull out the ol dev kit and slap sum hot steamy Dreamcast grub on my table!
lol
looking forward to see wat comes out of this, ive never played DC befores X_x
YOU JEW BASTERDS buy a dream cast and if u are so cheap dl the games
imagine jet grind radio
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG DO YOU *explict* KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!!!!! HALF LIFE, AND HALF LIFE: BLUE SHIFT!! THEN COUNTER STRIKE MODS FOR THE HALF LIFE!!!! THIS IS THE BEST PSP NEWS IN THE *explict* WORLD. SORRY FOR CAPS BUT IM *explict* EXCITED!!
for those of you who think this could be a full speed emulater, there is no way in hell, the PSP smply dosen’t have that much power, however as said previously, since the PSP’s CPU is similar to the dreamcast, witch in my opinion makes it possible for this to be a decent emulater, but it will never be a full speed Emulater, no matter what, -hopes he is proved wrong-
Why do you bother posting if you don’t know :P
Unfortunately, I fully agree. You’d be better off making these games from scratch than porting NullDC to PSP.
The PSP’s Hardware Specs are:
333MHz CPU
32MB RAM (Phat) or
64MB RAM (Slim)
4MB Embed RAM (Phat) or
8MB Embed RAM (Slim)
The Dreamcast’s Hardware Specs are:
200MHz CPU
16MB main RAM
8MB video RAM
2MB sound RAM
Does NOT seem technically possible :(
I’m sorry, but why isn’t it possible the PSP beats every spec.
OK, let me provide an example then.
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with the following hardware specs:
x32 Windows XP: Professional Edition
Core Duo: 1.6GHz, 1.6GHz cores
1GB RAM
ATI x1400 Graphics Card
With that I have a PS2 emulator: PCSX2
The hardware requirements of the PS2 are:
*just under that* (Too much to write)
I get an FPS of about 20-25, the average is supposed to be 60. So I would need about double that power to get about 55-60 fps. Obviously, such a task of emulating the Dreamcast on PSP is NOT feasible.
then maybe they’ve found a way for both pc,psp to decrease the problem alot, remember a pc isnt designed just for gaming, consoles ar so the psp would hav more of a chance hopefully cause thats the psp mains feature
Yes i forgot about emulating something auses the system requirments to be like times 3 the orignal.
well i told someone in live chat this was gonna happen then he banned me!!
he said i was crushing hopes and advertizing ideas
i never saw this one coming XD
very good! in your face all peoples that said this was inpoislbe…even if it desnt work that good still a acomplisment…if sonic adventure was only 50% frame rate that be efoth for me
Look at the speed of the second vid , that all the speed you are gonna get boys , have fun with it , sigh
ok ,it will never run faster than 5fps in any dc game simple as that,if you wanted to see ps2 emu on psp you could tho it would be 5fps if your lucky .
fact is anything that can be emulated on pc that can be ported can be run on psp tho doesnt mean a thing if the psp cant possibly keep up with cpu emulaton.
Does this mean….
Shenmue on PSP?…. O.O
OMFG i’d get an orgasm if that were to to happen!
lol. headless ryu. hope this works.
sux that it will never get far. all it does is upset me even more. goodwork
What happened to video
Do you people actually think about what you say before you type it out? Good for nothing internet trash, seems like a lot of people are quite jealous. Is that because we have a DC emu, and your ass is trying to hack your Wii? Grow up and stop being jealous because you don’t know how to port anything.
Great work guys, getting something that doesn’t belong on a system is an accomplishment in any means. Time will prevail.
this is just cool, regardless that it probably never work fully. But if somebody got this far, then who knows? Personally, I’m still waiting for a Saturn emulator (SOOOO many good 2D fighters on the saturn!)
I doubt its ever gonna be full speed since the dreamcast is a tad bit more powerful. But just as long as its playable I could care less about speed :D
If they can get this to run Shenmue 1 and 2 playable and with minor glitches i will be so happy ill send this guy money over pay pal.
And i noticed Ryu has no head kind of weird, must render the head seperate from the body or in a diffrent manner. Hopefully this will eventually run perfect on some games un like a certain n64 emu that never got finished..Not to point fingers.
Hmmm what if we were able to find out how sony was able to make the playstation emulated at 100% because i remember the psx emulators made by developers games wernt really playable at all but sony coders were able to create a 100% wokring emulator on their portable sysytem which i think psp hackers/developers are alot more intelligent than sony workers so their is always hope that something might get leaked to aid this
I’m pretty sure you have no idea what you’re talking about. Sony isn’t a bunch of toddlers. Normal lackeys working in their basement won’t ever know as much about the hardware as they guys who designed the damn thing.
Ryo had no head!
I really doubt they’ll get it to run very fast, as it’s not about ram and cpu clockspeed. Emulating is not efficient.
amazing!
I’ve seen sooo many threads in help saying a Dreamcast emulator is not and never will be possible
the PSP and its developments never ceases to amaze me
Hey..where is ryo’s head?^^
lol man u ppl r sick fukks ..lol make me sick lol how cum ppl act n talk i think that it will work if they allready have the opening screens working the rest should work in time if they can get dc to work then thats basicly all the systems they allready have atari nes snes working on a sataurn emulator now dc …and they have n64 going thats all right there wut else is missing ..ps2? bt i dotn care for ps2 on psp it wont happen i dont care i allready have a ps2 emu on my pc so good luck on the DC EMU thanx
i would be amazed tho if the new psp 3000 if it comes out ..would have more power to run emulators too…hmm
first NDS, then Saturn, now dreamcast, all im seeing is, if somehow God makes it possible to make this run at at least 10-15 frames, im seeing sonic adventure and sonic adventure 2 on me psp (not holding my breath though)
yep sonic adventure 1,2 hopefully will be in our hands.lol.that will be cool cause sonic’s my fav, dnt hold ur breath or u might die, miss the emulater.lol
personally, i don’t think God gives a shit if this works or not.
s*** its a nullDC PSP!man thats awsome!i think im seeing sonic adventure 2 on right….NOW!
how do u do it cos there is no download button fuckers
didn’t u see the title of the post, theres only videos
tooo sloowww.not worth it,thx anyway for trying soo hard to emulate dreamcast.but wish for psp that has ps2 like speed before running dc games on a psp.
ahhh… ive done watching the video…
think its going to work??
uhm.. im thinking of how the psx works on psp, we use a converter like psx2psp… is it possible to make ah converter of a dc games???
dont be surprised because there are already games that were on dreamcast then on psp like powerstone collection
but theres no sonic adventure 1 OR 2…
I am in agreement with “khelle22″ about getting a converter for DC games Rather then a Emulator. A Emulator is used for Roms that are Zipped (ie: GPSP kai, Picodrive, MVSPSP, DaedalusX64, ext) for small sized games. PSX2PSP was a damn good idea to make for the PSP. I had the Emulator and it wasnt all that hot. A Converter is your best bet.
