Basilisk II 1.1.0 for the PSP
greg | July 23, 2008
Equip your soon-to-be MacOS-enabled hand held… Quickly following the release of Test 20, J.F. — better known as Chilly Willy ’round these parts — has officially unveiled Basilisk II 1.1.0 for the PSP.

Allow me to reiterate the Basilisk II PSP features:
- Emulates a Mac II series machine running OS 7.0.1 through 8.1, depending on the ROM used.
- Uses UAE CPU emulation, with new SoftFloat FPU emulation for better compatibility.
- The PSP memstick can be mounted on the Mac desktop (requires File Manager 1.2).
- Supports on-the-fly change of colors and resolution (requires Display Manager).
- Has stereo, 16-bit, 44kHz audio (requires Sound Manager 3.0).
- Supports emulated floppy and CDROM with removable media (no CD audio yet).
- Supports up to four hardfiles for use as fixed drives.
- UDP tunnel for AppleTalk networking across WIFI (no general networking yet).
- Emulates a Mac Extended ADB keyboard and mouse. Buttons can be remapped on-the-fly, and popular IR keyboards are supported on the Phat PSP.
- Supports extra memory and TV out on the Slim PSP.
The official release comes very well documented. I suggest reading the PDF should you have any questions or issues. Both the binary and source archive are packaged in 7-zip format; Google that if you’re unsure how to extract the contents.
Kudos Chilly Willy, terrific work.

haha are u serious?
hahaha that great, going to give it a try just for kicks. Wounder if the Safari will work better then the crap PSP web browser?
uhhh.. it says OS 7.0.1 through 8.1 there was no safari back then. Only internet explorer. Even still that should be better than the crappy browser on the psp
Actually, there’s no Wifi support in Basilisk, and the PSP doesn’t have enough RAM to run any internet browser on Mac.
hahaha look at the noobs that dident know that
ok, this dosen’t help me much, i want this but, Ineed help, first off, wcan some one give me a site but just mix the words up for me to get the roms needed, and where do I put the files at in the PSP? please E-mail me the asnwer at Asskickulater@gmail.com
Someone please help me. I know how to use torrents and where to find them but can anyone please tell me what to search for? Thanks. my email address is DomMaiocchi@gmail.com
You can get Mac OS 7.5.5 for free and legally, just read the comments from the “Basilisk II for the PSP (test 20)” release (2 items down the home page). If you want a higher version *cough*Google “OSCD.iso” without quotes*cough*only one site has it*cough*SLOW download*cough*put it in the cdrom folder*cough*cough*, then I’m afraid I can’t help you.
you really should get that cough checked out GG…sounds serious
I really don’t feel like downloading and spending hours playing with this, as just 2 days ago I downloaded and spent hours playing with the same thing. Could someone give me a quick list of changes?
does this mean i can play happyweed on my psp? that would be so cool!
mac suck so much ass why would u want it on psp thats like putting a dog shit barry on icecreem
Have fun running Windows on your PSP then. At best, it takes 3 minutes just to start up, then you can enjoy the ability to perform an illegal operation and blue screen. Mac OS 8.1 is faster and more functional than Windows 98, and it is well suited to emulation on the PSP’s hardware.
why the fuck would i want to run a old os on my psp WTF!?? i have a laptop with Vista xp dual boot thats wayyyy better than 1 os slow psp that has NO keybord
That defeats the purpose of putting a Mac in your pocket. Why old Mac? Because everything else sucked ass in pocket form.
I somehow doubt you’re even old enough to know want a Macintosh was, given your wonderful spelling and grammar.
hi i was wondering if anyone else had trouble creating a hardfile in the setup screen everytime its tries to bring up the osk it justs turn blue then crashes after about 30 seconds, i’m using a phat psp with the latest cfw and pandora style battery and magic ms, if someone could plz post an answer to this problem or make a 400mb hardfile for download plz i want to have a large file to accompany the highest os for best performance
Find any file on your computer that is 400MB (or make one), copy it to your PSP’s memory stick, and rename it to whatever you want with a .hfv extension. It will be formatted automatically by Mac OS.
hey sorry to double post but can anyone one post a torrent or on mininova or somewhere for an iso of the oscd 8.1 i found an 8.0 that still exists but the 8.1 is udate only it looks like and i need a seperate iso for it or even post it up here since it’s just an update and is free
You must first install Mac OS 8.0 by putting the Mac OS 8 OSCD.iso in ms0:/PSP/GAME/BasiliskII/cdroms/ and booting from it in Basilisk (you need the basic Macintosh ROM if you don’t already have that). After you install it to a blank hardfile volume, download the 8.1 patch (it should be a .smi.bin file) and put it in ms0:/PSP/GAME/BasiliskII/files/ then in Mac OS 8, double-click MS0, drag the file to your Mac hardfile volume (whatever you named it), and run it to install 8.1. If you need ‘help’, give me your email address and I’ll see what I can do.
im stuck with tryin to find the os for any mac version. if i do end up finding it i still might not be able to get it going. can u help me out?
Hah! Mac… hippies!
Real hippies use GNU/Linux.
Why pay for an OS that goes against the spirit of humanity and encourages greed, when you can get one for Free (as in Freedom not Beer) that happens to be more sociable.
Anyway, Mac users must be retarded as they can only use one mouse button ;)
for real dude they always have 1 mouse button i guess they havent found out how to use this hard tecnoligy of 2 buttons
your a DUMBSHIT. =]
Learn to spell, and please stop acting like dumbshit.
ur only vocab is dumb and shit and both words combined so get a better vocab and everyone stop bashing on everyone jeez just help each other out jeez its like teaching 12 yr old kiddies what teamwork is
fo real nigga
Well, the first reason is that Linux on the PSP is just a useless commandline. The second reason is that Mac OS 7.5.5 is free for download on the Apple site. And the third is that programs and apps that run on an emulated Mac won’t require more than one mouse button, considering the PSP doesn’t have many buttons to spare.
I was just putting SMD in his place. I use MacOS, Linux and sometimes Winblows depending on what job needs doing.
I just hate this Macos User==Hippy crap you see around the place ;)
i hate Mac i don t even have an ipod …BUT i got to admit you are right its the best emu for an os i have seen on the psp …and the easiest to run…i tried 7.6 and was able to install a couples on games and apps on it freeware(abandonware)and getting more
photoshop1,claris draw,shangai2,super mines,…this is a really great emulator…dont know if doom and quake work…will try later…
only down part no web
big thanks to the devs …job well done
couldnt you use something like a DSL derivative?…or maybe an XFCE interface?
do I see better Java Apps in the future….
Kick ass guys just when I thought things were getting boring and redundant this happens.
next time I’ll bring all of my shoes so that I have them…

WHY MAC,linux could be easier to run in psp because the requieriments are less, and may be can support the psp wifi and surf the internet using it.
There’s already Linux on the PSP. It is just a useless command-line interface though, because while Linux has less requirements than Mac OS, a Linux with a GUI can stress a normal PC and would suck on the PSP. And no, Wifi doesn’t work under any emulated OS on the PSP so far.
Maybe we can run Linux M68k on this emu. A proper linux on PSP would be cool.
Gonna try it out later when I get a chance…
Except that Linux MIPS requires a MMU, something that the PSP doesn’t have. The embedded Linux that has been ported to the PSP isn’t really going to get much better than it already is.
i got my 8.0 up thx for the help GG-Xtreme i’ll try out the 8.1 update, we need a way to upgrade the ram on this thing though it’s the best working emulator on the psp yet i know that the phat or the slim should be able to emulate the full 64mb ram
also download hfv explorer it’s a free program that makes hardfiles up to 2gb without needed to convert them using the basilisk it works on pc and mac computers so this should help people who are having problems with standard windows pcs
On the slim without any plugins loaded I can get about 42megs for the emulated mac.
That should give you plenty of ram for mac classic apps.
srry to double post again but i got the update patch to work and now am on os 8.1 thx again GG – Xtreme now it’s time to see if mouse controlled games like diablo, and starcraft have a chance of working or maybe some classic quake :p
Heya, I got 8.1 mac OS to work on my PSP successfully, however i can’t use my IR keyboard to type things on anywhere. I have
a Palm Universal Keyboard and i haven’t seen any configurations for it or any other kind of IR keyboards. Am i doing something wrong or B2 is not yet working with IR keyboards?
Please help, and sorry for any english mistakes. Thanks in advance =]
In all honesty, I’m a noobie to Mac, so I have to ask… what exactly id the benefit of having this on your PSP?
Yeah, so using Basilisk to create a hardfile doesn’t work, PSP crashes. Secondly, the files in the downloaded package from the test port version of Basilisk in comments, that trick doesn’t work either.
Scratch that, I have no idea what I did, but it’s working.
