Custom Firmware 4.01 M33-2 and 1.50 Kernel Add-on Released

Concluding our action-packed custom firmware adventure is the promised 1.50 kernel add-on for PSP Fat owners. And in addition to that — Dark_AleX has corrected a few 4.01 M33 bugs; ergo, releasing 4.01 M33-2.
Custom Firmware 4.01 M33-2 changes:
- Nids resolver: Fixed scePowerGetCpuClockFrequency issue. This is the same bug that happened in 3.80 M33-1, it won’t happen again.
- Fixes recovery problems that have appeared in prior version (incorrect position of back string in language others than English, enable, and disabled strings not translated in plugins, hide pic0+pic1 couldn’t be changed, language file in flash1 wasn’t working…)
- Spanish recovery translation typos fixed.

u lose korean fonts and LocationFree Player when u install 1.50 kernel….but u get FULL support for homebrews ( i ALLWAYS isntall it…FUCK location free player)
Where do I install the 1.50 Kernel Add-on for 4.01 M33. When I updated via the network it did NOT creat a GAME4xx folder??? I don’t see it in my list of games. What am I missing.

To install, first download the 150.PBP and place it in the root of your memory stick (X:\150.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP). Then simply copy the “150k_installer” folder to GAME and run the installer from the PSP’s Game menu.

in the readme DAX said to place 150k_installer folder into GAME4XX folder not GAME….im guessing 150.PBP still goes into root of mem stick?

Pob, if you’re going to be using it to strictly use it for playing games, and homebrews, then mate, no, not really, everything you need, and and all you’ll basically need is on a 3.52m33, though i suggest you upgrade to at least 3.71m33-4.. even 3.80m33-5. I mean, usually I (and I haven’t yet) upgrade to the newest custom firmware because it’s always full of bugs, and more than likely you won’t be able to do things you’ll usually do. So just follow my advice, basically go for 3.80m33-5 if you’re wanting to update at the mo.

I have always had my gameboots installed and working perfectly.
After upgrading from 3.90 M33 to the new 4.01 M33-2 my gameboot no longer works.
What I get now is a PSP logo with a white background, no sound, and also not the original.
I have tried to RE-INSTALL to Flash0/vsh/resource folder and it does not work. Still get the same blank screen. Can’t even seem to go back to original. I just can’t figure this out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best thing is to use a Pandora Battery. Google “psp malloc forum” and find it there.

i update my friends psp, and they all have CFW, but when i want to update them to 4.01 m33-2, do i have to update it to 4.01 m33 then update to 4.01 m33-2? or can i just use the 4.01 m33-2 to update from 3.90 m33-3?
You should be able to go straight to m33-2.
Save yourself a lot of trouble and (if you’re running 3.80m33 or higher) let it autoupdate you to 4.01m33-2

I would guess they have tried to hire him, so is it a moral objection? (For which I would hold DA in even higher esteem than I already do) Or is Sony just REALLY stupid?

So far I’ve seen ZERO bugs. Was running 3.90 M33-3… went to 4.01M33: Popsloader still worked. I didn’t touch it. Didn’t do anything. Just ran Metal Gear Solid right after the reboot and got killed by Sniper Wolf.
Upgraded to 4.01M33-2… again… without reconfiguring anything… Started up MGS, KILLED Sniper Wolf… Switched to disc 2…. absolutely no problem.
The google search thing worked… Recovery menu works… Fastfoward and rewine videos works…
If there’s a problem with this firmware it must be something I reaaaaaally don’t care about.
Same here. I consider myself lucky when I hear of bugs and I never experience them.
The only bug I ever seem to encounter is in MGSPO+, when occasionally, the game will appear to freeze, but is actually still going, it just LOOKS frozen. Usually happens in the loading screens, but once it happened in a timed mission, and I barely made it to the checkpoint.
Not a firmware problem though, since I have tried this on OFW (3.90) and CFW (3.90 M33 and 4.01 m33), and it does it either

Does this new CFW increase the popsloader compatibility? I have CFW 3.90 m33-3 and I love it. Some games might be slightly glitchy but it really works perfectly for me. Should I download this update? Will it make more PSOne games even more functional?

FF7 does in fact work perferctly on 4.01 M33. Im playing it right now for the first time no less lol. But i even read in three places it works perfectly.

One thing I wish Dax could implement is another Fatsmod patch for 4.xx. I have tried the 3.8/3.9 one and it does not work. If I just ran programs (such as Gundams Battle Chronicles or Suzumiya Haruhi ) with plain 4.01m33-2 , the game intro would be very laggy. I guess it is the same issue with 3.71 jump to 3.80. Anyways, thanks for the good work Dax, nothing makes us more happier to see 5ony’s azz got whip one more time.

Donno about picodrive… but u can update by using the update function. DA implemented it since 3.80m33
it’s not possible to update to sony’s official firmware if you have m33 custom firmware as it is blocked to prevent from updating to the official one..

mOST OF THE Homebrew, cthemes, plugins have 2 be recoded on 4.xx, so for now I would recomend u stay on 3.9 or 3.71! Except if ur a developer or u cant wait for the 2 stupid sony updates.

Downgrade to 1.5 (PHAT) or 3.71 (Phat+slim) with Despertar del Cementerio (http://exophase.com/files/psp/dc5.rar) and make Pandora battery. But there are like 1million guides 2 that.
DAX knocks these out with absolute ease, time and time again!

Try reformating ur MS b4 u update, and dont use the Network update, but do it manually! It migt help!

for phat dg to 1.5m33 and then take it from there. U cannot upgrade 1.5 directly to 4.01 u have to go to 3.71m33 and then U can install 4.01m33
um its 3.52 m33 cause you cant upgrade to 3.71 from 1.50 ive tried
u cant upgrade for anything but 3.52m33 to get to any thing past that. like 3.80 and so forth.

Try making an ISO folder on the root of your memory stick (Ms0/psp/). The root is where all of the folders like Music Picture Video etc go.
The root of the memory stick is MS0:// not MS0://PSP/.
Isos, csos go to root:/ISO/
Eboots go to root:/PSP/GAME/

and when i updated to 4.01m33
i just put 401.PBP and EBOOT.PBP
and then i just upgraded to 4.01m33-2
what do i do? what are those extra files? can some one please help me?? plz?

Basically if U run the Update, the other files r generated by DA’s CFW update. But if u already updated, and everything worked, then its all good…

When you first run your update you will have 2 Files
Eboot.pbp
401.pbp
When you run the update for the first time…the first line that appears is a line that says
Unpacking…
The unpacking process creates the other 3 files.

You may be waiting a long time for a recovery file other than pandora. You have a hacked psp… make pandora. Problem solved. If you think it’s difficult you are fooling yourself.

you should be able to run the downgrader that comes with hen 3.50. you dont need the game to run the downgrader and if should get u all the way back to 1.50 and from there just upgrade to 3.52m33 and then to 4.01m33 and dont use the 1.50 add on.
Yes fluffhead I have hacked psp. my brother has one too..problem is I dont want to buy another battery; I’ve bought one b4 n it was a fake one. dont want to wast anymore money. I heard with pandora battery there is a way to switch it back to normal. Is that true? thanks for the help by the way
Of course you can revert the battery back to normal after using it.
The application that turns the battery into a Pandora Battery can also change it back.
You can even backup the original data from the battery with this tool.

is there anyway to downgrade me psp software without using a pandora? i kind of tried to lift the ICO4 pin in my battery and it started sparking and spinning.
cant make a pandora without a hacked PSP, only through hardmod, so either borrow hacked PSP, od continue lifting the ICO4^^

My PSP is slim firmware version 3.90 m33-2. I have downloaded the version 4.01m33-2 from this site. Is there a special way of installing the newer version without producing problems with my PSP? I was able to download before the plain 4.01, but I had a problem with downloading the games. There was a deduction in my memory, but II cannot view the game in the game section. Thank you. Rename your 3xx game folder, to GAME401, it sounds like thats your problem.
not game 401 name it game 4xx and i think some homebrew will not work with the 4.01 kernel.

I seem to be having trouble installing this kernel add-on.
I am currently running 4.01 M33-2 on a Phat PSP.
ISO Games run fine. UMD Games run fine.
I have placed the install file on PSP\GAME4XX
I get an error: The game could not be started. (80010002)
I have tried running the install file from PSP\GAME\ as well.
I have my kernel setting on 4xx in the configuration menu.
I used the 1.50 kernel patch on 3.90 previously.
Now I am unable to run any 1.50 homebrew applications.
I also get another error on certain homebrew applications (kxploited ones; NAME and NAME% folders)
8002014C - Ran kxploited homebrew without Homebrew enabled firmware.
So I’m unable to run any eboots/homebrew right now? I don’t understand how this happened.
Any solutions? Please and thank you.
Does someone know of an upgrade path from 3.52? I’ve upgraded to 3.52-4 and when I try to apply the 3.71 patch it just tells me that I need to be 3.52-3 or higher.
try changing the kernel to 3.52 in the recovery menu.

Dudes, I’ve been trying to install this forever! I’m on 3.93 cf and i managed to get the upgrading app to start once out of at least 30 tries, though, at at that time I unfortunately had misplaced the 401.pbp and i had no wifi.

Quick question. I used to be running 3.40 M33 and had several PS1 games I converted myself. What I’ve found is that after upgrading the firmware I lose my icons on my PS1 saved games. They switch to an Icon of Alucard whenever I save my game.
Is there a fix? Do I need to convert my games differently?
all you need to go is change the size of your icons to 80×80. this is couse of some thing sony placed in the FW that made it so ps1 games would not run unless they were from PSN. so just use pop gui and patch the games with a new pic. :)

firmware 4.01 made some of my saved games file became corrupted and could not load saved games. Anybody can help here?

hey, i got a fat 3.90 m33-3 and i just wanna play breath of fire 4 psx-psp game the torrent guys said i need to get this version for it to work.. so do i just download this cfw version, follow instruction and be done with it.. or its more complicated than that? can any1 confirm this plz? i live in a very uncivilized area n to reach internet would cause me a lot of travelling time.. so i really apreciate it.. thanx!!
