Sony Releases Firmware 4.01… Custom Firmware 4.00M33 end of this Week… *Updated*

Is something fishy going on? Coming real soon, in the next few hours actually, Sony plans to release firmware 4.01. Eric Lempel says –
- Display of search results under Internet Search has been improved for certain languages.
- Playback of video content under Video has been improved for certain file types.
Hrm… I bet.
But not only that — some related firmware news… Dark_AleX shared a few details concerning custom firmware 4.00M33. It’s basically a “behind-the-scenes” update. Save state support and in-XMB recovery will likely follow, perhaps in 4.00M33-2.
Is Sony trying to hide something? Will Sony’s unexpected behaviour hinder Dark_AleX’s tentative release date of this week’s end? Will Dark_AleX release 4.01M33?! Tune in tomorrow — same PSP-hacks time, same PSP-hacks channel.

I smell a hole/exploit in the 4.00 FW!
Well, in my small research in OFW 4.01, there’s a patch within it. But the Hole in it is that when using the internet search tool, it have been a glitch of it that leads to the flash in 4.00. Thats why they want the improvements in 4.01.
But I will soon send the decrypted form of 4.00 and 4.01 to show to any homebrew devlopers. But Dark_Alex, if you read this, if you do your part, I will do mine. Even if you retired in making cfw, ill be there to start making cfw soon.

I think sony knows they screwed up and pulled the 4.00 and 4.01 will actually end up the 4.00 release on their site… Just my opinion tho.
No, I’m thinking they found a mistake in 4.0 that could lead to a downgrader. Remember with other firmwires this is what they did.
Yep, thats true. When you see sony release a firmware then release another one within a week or so. Dont upgrade. Something on that firmware could be a result of a hole to downgrade or to flash something to flash0:/ and to the nand.
Sony can’t EVER make a firmware update that will stop pandora. only a hardware revision could stop it.

Wrote him a mail, hope he took my idea into consideration. If U download ftom a URL you can only save 2 music, video, pics, or common. But never 2 ISO. Hope he integrates it on his page… its really annoying and uses up alot of space 2 DL an Iso and then haveing 2 copy it. Got my own prv Apache running, so I could update my psp from anywhere in the world!
ALEX plz integrate this in 1 of ur INCREDIBLE Updates!!!

this “you have to update” crap is always getting more annoying. the good old nes, psx, ps2 worked well without. really sad. instead of trying to stop hacks they should just continue, not everyone wants iso-loader or such things and those are the people who are getting annoyed as any iso-loader/homebrew user wan’t update until it’s “safe”.

I think so, Yes!!! since 3.80 m33 DA integrated that the Update function will update straight from his site. The only reason why it might not work, is because:
a)his site is down
b) he might change his domain. But I guess he’ll wait until 4.00 is ready!

i dont understand, how does sony figure out what the next ‘number’ firmware will be? i never understood this is. my theory is that however big (the more that is added)the update is, the higher the number jump goes.. am i right?
I believe that when they do a “major” update they jump from for example 3.50 to 3.60
But smaller updates like bug fixes just jumps from 3.50 to 3.51
when a feature is added its + .10 when its bug fixes its +.01. im just assuming

I trust Dark Alex and his updated firmwares, but that Black Sunday hack just spooked me a bit. I will be returning all my psps to their original Nand state, then upgrade them to a lower firmware, something like 2.71 hen c. I suggest until we find out whats going on, people should stay at or below 3.71mm. This is quite unnerving….
Its ok. stay lease up to 3.90m33 or under to be sure. But if you have any type of problems with the psp’s near 4.00m33 then before you do anything else, BACKUP YOUR NAND.
i dont think we have to worry so much about the “black sunday” thing. CFW probably makes sony more money than they even know. how many people you know went out and bought a psp just so they could put CFW on it? i know about 10 personally. i know if i didn’t have CFW i wouldn’t go out and buy any of the whack ass games that companies are putting out. i would have ditched on my psp long ago without CFW. not to mention the MS PRO DUO cards even, sony sells those too you know. thats just my thoughts on the subject. i don’t have much to worry about anyway since i’m not gonna update from 3.71-4 M33 unless we get something epic like like straight up full on AVI support with no conversion or blow j’s or something kool like that
I wish they find away to put flash player 9 on to the psp.
I find every person very stupid who requests this feature. Don’t you realise flash is so slow on psp and you want them to support the new version which requires more cpu to be to even run. What is the point since the psp cant run any decent flash game at a reasonable or at more playable speed and yet you be the idiot who request to support the new version when it already has problems with the current version. If you still don’t get it, most flash games that are version 9 require 2ghz cpu minimum so unless you like playing a game or even an animation at 1 frame per 10 seconds quit saying it is a feature that needs to be implemented.

From what I know. I believe theres a glitch in the new google search tool.I think it saves cookies to the flash0 not like internet browser and saves cookies to flash1. Maybe they found away to send .rco or .prx or any kind of file to the flash0 that will allow us to enter and downgrade the PSP flash0. Hence the reason why they are releasing and update so fast. With no real description.
You are right. i will look into this right away. Maybe its still away via internet search tool. Someone reported that there’s a glitch in the updater that leads to the flash it self. I hope thats true.

Gamestop is defiantly a bunch of scammers when it comes to what they do with games. You’d get about $40 for your PSP Phat, and that’s just in store credit…want cash?, u get $24 maybe. (That’s IF they dont realize it’s hacked…then they might not take it since it stands for everything those corporate sheeps dont believe in.) Then they’ll hit you with the whole REFURB fee by saying “we have to send it to the company since we dont sell these anymore. They keep 20% of cash back,…and to everyone, dont fall for the whole “Sign up for the EDGE card and get 10% off of all used games and accessories, PLUS a years subscription to Game Informer.” First off, it’s more like 3% off since they do it before they apply tax, so after taxes, u get shit of a discount….seriously. And the GI magazines aint worth it since we all can get more info on games or anything else off the internet anyway. (Ya should all check out QJ.Net.) Even the employees get a shitty discount,…15% before taxes,….about 7-8% after. And if ANYONE is thinking of working for Gamestop,…take my advice….DON’T. I’m not personally too picky as to the CFW I use. I’m using 3.80M33 w/ Popsloader. Though I think 3.71M33 is still the best.
However, congrats to the CFW makers who are also out there. Some great, some not so (coughwildcardcough) great. Keep up the good work all ;)

The one you downloaded is the official FW and not the CFW. So you cant play your “games” in ur mem stick. Hope it helps.
How can U update a m33 to a OFW??? Get a Pandora Battery, a MagicMS (Jigstick) and recrack ur PSP… no other way 2 do it! From 3.80 M33 U can use the integrated “NETWORK UPDATE” since DAX made it, so it will get the update automatically from his page, not from Sony!
Just patch up the idstorage 0×004 then run the ofw updater then done.

what im trying to do is update my psp to a higher version than 3.71 m33-4, and everytime i try to update my psp to any CFW higher than that or any official firmware other than 1.50 it gives me an error….the only updates i can run are those under 3.71 M33..such as 3.52 M33 or 3.40 OE-A…or the official 1.50 when i use pandora…also the psp only lets me update to 3.71 M33 with pandora…the regular method…it gives me the stupid error and brick my psp…iight hope u can help me and also that i made my self clear
If its patch the 0×005, thats good too. Some psp’s already have it patch up. So all you have to do is run the ofw updater for anything above your current psp cfw, then go for it.

Guys I wouldn’t underestimate what Sony can do. They did create the PSP themselves not DAX. I mean big congrats to DAX for doing everything he is doing I mean I never would have thought you would be able to play old classics like gba, gbc, snes, etc.. But Sony did create the psp and it’s firmware so I wouldn’t say they’re as stupid as they think. Not saying that DAX is stupid and Sony is smart. I’m using cfw myself. Just saying don’t get too cocky Sony does own the copywrite to the firmware so as I see it they could very well arrest DAX for copywrite infringement, the way I understand it you can edit something for your own use but when you distribute it you can get in trouble. I don’t know all the details just saying yes DAX is one of the best, but don’t be so quick to say Sony’s a dumbass either. I fully support what DAX is doing and It enables users to use the psp to it’s full potential, even if you aren’t using it for gaming it could be used educationally(like Rossetta Shard or the calculator app) without DAX that wouldn’t work too well. But without Sony even inventing the psp in the first place this website wouldn’t even exist.
Sony is the start of homebrew. doind 1.50, they know there was a hole in it. Using Exploits, Kxploits, Swaploits, etc., they know its there. If no one didnt find that hole, that hole would be there today. But the thing is that sont limits the amount of things that psp can do. DAX, unlock that and help us, even when he was on Team C+D, even on the M33 Team this day, he still helping us. Thanks to him, we Made it. Thanks to Him, Sony wont have no choice but to give up. I decrypt the Eboots by myself from 3.52m33 to now. I even decrypt ofw.

sure does, I sent a slim in to $ony for a warranty issue ( defect in the faceplate ). After 3 months $ony, having done nothing to my slim sent it back to me saying it was repaired!
