PSP Firmware 4.00 Coming Soon

Eric Lempel, PlayStation Network Operations Director, shared the news today that PSP firmware 4.00 is nearing release. Here’s what he had to say –
…v4.00, will be released soon, adding Google Internet search directly to the XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface.
This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at www.google.com. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.
After you download and install the firmware on your PSP, click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your PSP.
Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video.

Also hopefully DA & Team M33 keep to their word that they will make 4.00 their next targeted M33 release. They might feel some of the fun or work is wasted on such few changes or updates. Too late. Project4 is a total XMB replacement. It is exactly what you said is impossible. It is already in a beta version with quite a few features. I agree, it is nothing like what sony gives us and a lot of features are missing, but give it time.

i didn’t say it was impossible dumbass and that’s not even the same thing as creating your own firmware. all they did was create a nice GUI. all the functions are the same because they’re all just linked to the internal flash. that’s all it is, a GUI and a couple new features i could care less about. it’s garbage.

Hate to say it, but the PSP hacks have been maxed out. All the resources have been used up. And the games being released for the PSP now are now only sub-par if that. I suggest you continue using it for all the OLD reasons. Nothing *new* will be coming out guaranteed. Pack it up, and move on. Or… come up with your own hacks for it and learn some techniques.

When I was a kid, I bought a GameGear. It had better graphics (32 screen colors at a time vrs 4 shades of ‘green’) and even higher resolution. When I was an adult, I bought ‘5′ PSP systems. It has millions of more colors and yes, even higher resolution. Despite home many are sold, I would rather purchase a superior system, no matter who makes its. To me, thats the true winner. Nintendo…. its a toy. A PSP, thats a man’s system.

Back when 3.90 the original was released, a lot of people were speculating what might become of the future 4.00 firmware. With this post, I am sure this is only a part of the whole package we will be receiving. Remember, every time the Version digit changes, something pretty dramatic was added. With 2.00, the Internet Browser was released. With 3.00, remote connection and internet radio. I am sure something big will become of 4.00, although it will not suddenly turn itself into a computer.

Because to do that you have to pay YouTube for the RIGHTS to do that. Would you pay for something SofiaCat will make for free for you anyway? Please THINK about it for a moment sir. And before you make any more conclusions about Google being integrated in to XMB, plase try to keep in mind that this could be an easy gateway for our hacking friends to make things work much more effectivelly for us. I dream about more stable and robust aplications to fully enjoy and unleash the beast inside the PSP console. Every exploitable addition in to official XMB, whitch helps to make it reality is welcomed at least by me.

Man, those people are very happy with the update. I guess having OFW from the start wouldn’t give you the experience of the full potential of the PSP. Only those hacked PSP will complain with the lame update. But for those people who haven’t tried the CFW and the homebrews, they’re rejoicing with the news of the 4.0 OFW update.
