PSPVE v1.0.1: A Vectrex Emulator
greg | June 10, 2008
“Bring the real arcade play home” with PSPVE — the Vectrex emulator ported by none other than the Z-Man, ZX-81. PSPVE is port of Valavan Manohararajah’s VecX emulator.

ZX notes: It’s a first release, work still remains, the sound is really crappy, the rot90 render mode should be improved, the speed is not so good as well, etc…

DepecheCT?
WOW I had one of these when I was a kid.
Back in 1985. Way cool
hehe, I’ve still got two of them!
Mine Storm and Cosmic Chasm are still sweet games even today.
Oh, by the way, it is legal to download vectrex roms. The Vectrex FAQ has the details (I don’t have a link so ask mr google for it.)
now in 2008…its nothing but a peice of shit app for psp
….or something fun for us born before 1992? Code something yourself or shut the fuck up.
keep talking
Looking forward to future releases of this emu.
Nice work.
Hobby programmers are currently developing some new games for the Vectrex emulator.
Something to look forward to.
This is old school, real nice to have, thanks for this :)
@all: thx
@nyr2k2: don’t feed the troll :”D
Zx
just another emu for psp!
ho hum…..
i can see it now…
PSPVE 1.0.2 released!
PSPVE 1.0.3 released minor improvements!!!
PSPVE 1.0.3.5 released minor bugfix!
etc etc
why not just release 1 perfect app instead of spamming the front page…no offence this dev makes some great apps
I’m fine with zx81’s updates and by the way a single person relies on the feedback of the users (including bug reports), a company has it’s own testing and QA departments.
If you find a perfect app/game released to the public then you can be sure that there was a closed beta testing crowd that used the software weeks before you ever could have a hand on it.
Bingo.
Nice release zx81, the vectrex is one of those old “consoles” that I’ll actually buy sometimes.
You should get one (or two) :)
If you google The Vectrex faq (should be on faqs.org), you should find instructions for a simple to make multi-cart that contains all of the commercial games made for the vectrex. The commercial games are also legally downloadable (I think they may also be in the Public Domain), check the faq for details.
Nice work ZX…..as always.
Pretty ironic that an AVGN Video came out today, and he demonstrated Star Trek on the Vectrex -rolleyes- conspiracy.
@dbaggerson: MK2k is right, i’ve no beta testers, and btw this version is playable, and good enough for most of vectrex fans ;).
I don’t plan to release tons of different versions of this emu (it’s pspve, it’s not time-baby ;) ). One final version will come soon in a couple of days with a new sound emulation stuff, speed improvements and may be overlay images, but that’s all.
Zx
Heh, yeah I thought of time-baby too when dbaggerson started complaining :>
You could get quite a speed boost if you use the vfpu for the vector math, and the gu for the vector display.
Oh, also, if you are going to support overlays, you will need to use the gu anyway as you will have to blend many pixels. Using software to do this would be slow on the psp.
This music venue near where I live has one of these sitting on their bar. Never knew what it was. I always play the tempest- type game when bands I dont like are on. haha, nice to see someone made an emulator for it.
if you like it a new version is out :
http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/serendipity/
here is the changelog :
- Major speed improvements :
+ 6809 emulation
+ vector rendering
+ remove vector cash (buggy and time consuming)
- Sound emulation completly rewritten and inspired from 8910 driver of xmame.
- The rotate 90′ view is now much faster and it is used as default render mode.
- Save state modification, it is now faster to save state (but previously saved games are not compatible with this new version !)
- Add .vec and .gam file extention as valid rom extention
- Add option to change color between gray and blue
