PSP Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN Released

greg | June 1, 2008

MIRIAM of the PSP-GEN crew has released the much anticipated custom firmware 3.95 GEN. Overcoming the memory limitations, 3.95 GEN is fully compatible with both the PSP Fat and Slim.

A new version of PopsLoader supporting the 3.95 kernel has been included with the package also.

Installation:

  • Copy the PSP folder to the root of the memory stick.
  • Download the official 3.95 update and copy it to the root of the memory stick with the name ‘395.PBP’
  • Run it and follow the onscreen instructions, the Sony updater will be used for the main flashing.
  • At the end it’ll ask you to press X to reboot, do so or you’ll get a brick.

PSP CFW 3.95 GEN changes:

  • Kernel updated to 3.95 (new nids, patches etc.).
  • Option added in recovery to choose between VSHMenu and in-XMB recovery.
  • Option added in recovery to choose between Sony, GEN and M33 network update modes.

Download:

Official 3.95 Firmware EBOOT (rename to 395.PBP)

@chris – I Dont think so.

@ribeater – Did you press X/0 at the end of the updater like you was supposed to? Also, you can’t blame nobody because that the risk you take with flashing your PSP.

@Jay – ISOs work fine.

I like that they want to keep up the scene but it’s worthless. Thank god for nand backups. It litterally felt as if I was on official 3.95. It wouldn’t load any homebrew even with the game393 folder. It wouldn’t load CXMB. It wouldn’t load isos either. It sucks and thank god I backed up my 3.90M33-2. I didn’t like it. I’m using a slim by the way. CFW 3.93 is bad too but at least runs everything but iso and snes9xTYLcm. Stay right where you are cause this is disappointing. And I know for sure I installed it right. I only have these problems from GEN’s firmwares.

Everything I have tried loading with this works, including iRshell, PSPRadio, light MP3, PSPTube, and all the ISOs currently on my memory stick load without any problem. The only thing not currently working is CXMB. Later Im going to try flahing a custom theme, and see what happens, if it goes awry rhere is always my Pandora and UPMS. Keep up the great work MIRIAM!!

CFWs from DAX rarely if ever brick, and if they do, it’s almost always because someone didn’t follow the directions.

Well I had 3.93 M33 and it was bloody awful, it kept jamming and locking, the power-suspend would almost never recover and would lock and crash trying to bring the unit back from suspend. I upgraded to this 3.95 and after about 6 hours of play not one lock, suspend has come back clean every single time. I am over the moon all my probs have been fixed with this! Thanks PSP-GEN!

3.93 M33 wasn’t made by DAX, which explains it.

That happened with the provios CFW with me. Any one can help??

Comment by XIYL
2008-06-01 23:14:15

It helps when you read the instructions but up at the top of this page there is a link entitled Official 3.95 Firmware EBOOT. Click that link and download the file. Rename that file and put it in the root of your memory stick and rename it 395.PBP. If it still doesn’t work backup all the files on your Memory Stick and go to settings in the XMB, then system settings, then format memory stick. the problem might be that your memory stick is fux0r3d up. if you listened to me like you should have listened to the instructions then it should work

i think dax has got the corner on the cfw market, trust in dax he never releases anything before its truly ready, so if you dont want to deal with the bugs and glitches stick with Dax, he’s probably waiting until 4.0 to drop his next update and im sure it will be pure gold. as for the GEN crew, i know you guys put a lotta hard work into this and i never look a gift horse in the mouth, but i get the feeling your cfw’s are more pproof of concept than actual functional firwares.

@Tunaijy

i havent tried installing this and dont plan to, but from the sounds of your error it seems like perhaps you need the official sony 395 update on your memory stick in order to create the custom firmware with the updater, but like i said i havent even used it yet and dont plan to.

Comment by XGOS
2008-06-01 20:21:27

@tunaijy: And make sure it’s on the root of your memory stick with the name “395.pbp” and not “update.pbp”

I’m sure about the root and the official FW is available too. I have the M33-3 CFW now on my psp and I tryed that for many times and it gives me the same problem.

If you have more than one battery, you only need to make a pandora battery and stick once, and then put it to the side in a safe place for when the need arises. That’s what I do, but I have an extra battery, it’s easy in my case to have that. I guess if you only have one battery then you would need to make it and then undo it.

What would really grab my attention would be if someone could create a plugin to use some of the MS flash memory to increase the capacity of the phat PSP. This could solve a whole bunch of issues that we phat users have.

And no don’t tell me to “go and buy a slim” because I love my phat to death.

Well as Co-Designer of UPMS ill stick with m33 for now. Unless i feel the means to upgrade. I can wait. I have no issues as of yet running 390m33-3 on both my FAT and SLIM.

(hint hint, we might be working on a new UPMS. shhhh)

Yes, very true.
The only .prx that doesn’t work is CXMB where it freezes upon booting up. The MS light stays lit and the whole PSP switches off after awhile. Good thing they have the recovery mode…=D

Other than that, there’s nothing wrong with the CFW. But I soooo want my XBox 360 XMB back!!!!

I hadn’t upgraded since OE 2.7 until last week (PSP has all but been forgotten). Of course I went to 3.93.3 and was happy. Since I’m actually still keeping up with PSP stuff (soon again i won’t be), I went ahead and installed this.

I see no noticeable difference between 3.93.3 and this. Yes, some things won’t work as usual, but outside of that it’s a solid release.

Thank you to whoever you all are. At least you are not the ones bitching and moaning when you have done nothing ;-)

Tried to open it today. Won’t boot again even without CXMB and memory stick. Guess it’s semi-bricked. I will downgrade to 3.90 m33-3. Thank you Pandora – DCv5! It works great… just like 3.93 by Gens. They have M33/DA’s OK. Don’t be so paranoid… the guys who can’t follow the readme… :-)

i put the 395.pbp, which i downloaded from the sony site as the eboot file, in the root of the memory stick. why can’t the 395 GEN updater open the 395.pbp? its on the root and named correctly, is it not? i’ve never had this problem before.
im running cfw 3.93… wait it says “System Software Version 3.93″ is that normal for the cfw? cause i remember it saying “3.90 cfw” before, it think? if i did magically revert to official firmware though, i wouldn’t have the recovery menu right? cause i have that.

i don’t actually need to update to 3.95 cfw but i have nothing better to do so any help will be appreciated.
