Snes9xTYLsmcm (0.4.2) Test 5 27/05/08

greg | May 28, 2008

Over the past few days you’ve likely spotted several SNES test builds circulating the scene. While the Japanese developer (or developers?) remains anonymous, people are talking, and word on the virtual street is, Ruka — you know, the talent behind NesterJ — may be responsible for the number of recent updates. Evidently, Snes9xTYLsmcm is based off the initial developments of YoyoFR and Laxer3a.

Anyway… I finally had the opportunity to sit down, install the latest test build, and kick some serious alien ass in Contra III – the Alien Wars. Fans of the Super NES — you need this emulator, no questions asked. It’s slick.

Ok, you can ask questions — leave ‘em below.

but do any games that didn’t run great on 0.4.2 run on this update, such as Star Fox?

I shall test it now.

I just tried Starfox – it’s playable if you tweak the options a bit. I set it to 333MHz and frameskip 3. Still playing with it now…

What the hell is everyones problem i played all those games fine your coy of the game or your settings is bad or wrong all snes needs is 2 player ad hoc wifi

Um… for the love of God, please tell me the sleep function works. It’s really annoying that of all the emulators installed on my psp, the snes ones never support sleep. I’ve never understood why.

2008-05-28 20:24:23

So…what was updated??

To others:
Wifi 2 player adhoc does work, hit start button then load the game.
Snes9xTYL ME can’t go into sleep mode, but the regular version can. Look for the one without ME in the name. Sleeps works fine for me.

Really? How does it run? Do the “ME” versions boast more features?

Comment by lpopman
2008-05-29 06:11:24

The ME versions run faster. Some of the emulation is run on the PSP’s coprocessor (The Media Engine).

2 player ad hoc is all I needed. Star fox and RPG worked fine on the last one, even better on these ones. NICE! Thanks for this AWESOME emulator. Im glad some1 is working on this again. BTW. Whats going on with daedaulus (Or however its spelled) N64 Emulator…..

God, have any of you ever actually palyed a real SNES console before? The difference in speed and playability is like night and day from this release compared to the old one. Also, games that used to crash my PSP system now play beautifully. Rockman and Forte, Dragon Warrior 1&2. and more.

Comment by kupomogli
2008-05-29 02:58:28

Weird. Because the SNESTYL Beta++(the other version Ruka was working on,) ran both Mega Man and Bass as well as Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 full speed with 0 frameskip.

This version is however slightly faster. 1-2 frameskip though just really doesn’t cut it. The fact that the home key won’t bring you back into the menu unless you have it on PSP Accel, Accel+Approx, or Accel+Accurate is kindof bs.

If they cant fix the home bug and add more speed to some of the games, then it’d pretty much be perfect.

well you should update to 3.90 M33 and then unzip and drag the whole contents to ms0:/PSP/GAME and put your roms in that same folder

Better than wasting time on gay ass N64 which will never work properly.

Illegal to discuss, I’d suggest googling roms, though. ;)

so far this one is the best snes emu iv’e used on the psp Mega Man X plays with 0 frame skip where iv’e always have had to use at least 3 just to play decently oh but i believe suspend mode is not working

In regards to Mega Man X, I just plowed through 2 again. Everything except for the intro stage boss and Overdrive Ostrich battle was just as smooth as the actual SNES game.

I also tried Super Metroid, and aside from a sprite glitch (sprites like Ridley flying away after his initial battle, and Samus’ gunship flying towards Zebes) the only trouble I have had so far was search lights (when you get the morphing ball. I beat the first Torizo and had no problems.

Lastly, for Chrono Trigger, it might behoove you all to just try the PSX version. Yeah, the load times to start battles kind of suck, but they’re really not all that bad. I just beat the game again on the PSX version, leveling everyone up to ** (or otherwise 99). I barely notice the lag anymore.

ok, i just installed this version and most of my favorite games do run much faster with frameskip at 1, and processor @ 333.
diddy kongs quest, ultimate mk3, super metroid,
out of this world loads the beginning sequence, but stalls just after the load clock. stunt race fx…. the whole game loads and functions… but you cant see your car/truck.
almost everything i tried worked great except for out of this world and stunt race fx.
sure would like those to work.

I was disappointed that Snes9XTYL bugged around when I tried to play Mother 2. Fortunately it’s alot less laggy, but alot of the graphic errors when entering battle are still present. Has anyone tried EVO? I can’t locate my ROM for the game, and I recall it playing horribly slow and a super annoying graphic error was ever present.

Here’s a question that many people have probably already asked-
Why is there an almost perfectly running GBA emulator for the PSP, but the SNES emulators are all so far behind? If I want to play F-Zero or MOTHER I might as well play the GBA versions if I want full speed.

Starfox was still unplayable for me. Does Star Ocean work at all? It just gives me a black screen.

Also some games (Shin Kido Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel and Seiken Densetsu 3 to name a couple) do not work right when still .zipped.
