A new custom firmware has sprung up over the weekend… It doesn’t pack any catchy name, and the developer [apparently] wishes to remain anonymous; despite that, PSP Custom Firmware 3.93 is fully functional and works quite well. Evidently it’s based off the work of Dark_AleX and Team M33.
PSP Custom Firmware 3.93:
- Uses the 3.93 kernel
- Implemented all the original custom firmware features.
- Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:
- When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.
- All options work immediately, there is no need to reboot (even the Slim’s USB charging option)
- Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.
- Ability to hide the MAC address in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0’s.
- Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).
- The native 3.93 pops isn’t as good as the previous pops; therefore I hope the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.
1.50 Kernel Add On:
- Install kernel 1.50 on a PSP Fat. To use the 1.50 kernel for an application, you’ll absolutely need to put the kernel to 1.50, even if the application is in the GAME150 directory. If you change the kernel in VSH Recovery, you’ll still need a reboot.
- The new recovery has this two asked features:
- Suspend device
- Shutdown device
Whether or not you should upgrade — that’s your discretion. I’d only recommend ensuring you have a means of recovery if something unforeseen happens; i.e.) a pandora’s battery.

I was thinking that since Sony sent out a survey to me about third-party firmware, if I had it and why I did. They asked me if running homebrew made the PSP more attractive to me and if running homebrew will make other people want it.
This broke my psp after 3 hours of playing it. Even my pandoras battery dosn’t fix this. IT worked well at first then broke . Who made this im really pissed

you noob. you should have leard how to make a pandors’a battery. Also **DO NOT** and I repeat **DO NOT** you and cfw not made by Dark-Alex(http://www.dark-alex.org/index.php?Dark_Alex=m33) himself. If you use a cfw not by him you can’t trust it and there its a good chance its not as good as his or will brick you psp. So all I can say is only use cfw made by Dark Alex as he was the first to make cfw for the psp is the best and has the only cfw you can truly only really trust.

No brick-yet. Fake region works,but must reset device same. Any game in 380 folder must be moved to GAME or format MS and GAME393 appears. ISO’s play better than CSO’s. Any changes in recovery mode just hit reset device to reboot.
24hrs. later-still no brick. I’d change my theme back to normal before installing this. Also, No iso cashe.bin file appears in the SYSTEM folder. Tried the 1.5 kernel patch. It added extra menu items. So far pretty smooth. Later

i tried that, no go. network update from m33 does NOT upgrade to this.

FU all dumb idiots who bricked their psp hahaha, sony did this fck SoNy as well.
Well i downloaded and installed this earlier this morning from qj, and it was kindof cool at first, but i found out that when you tried to go to network update, it trys to download 3.90 m33-3 but you cant install it…. for some reason non of my homebrew apps stopped working but i could still run my back-ups. when i tried to use the recovery to downgrade to 1.5, it didnt work and kept getting me an error…. so i just used my pandoras battery and downgraded it..
This was a really good idea for the recovery thing and all the features but i still recomend that people stay with their other cfw…. i got mine back to 3.90m33-3 and im keeping it their until DA releases their next improved cfw.

You need firmware 2.81 or higher to support 8gb memory sticks.

i guess that you don’t know that their is always a slight chance of bricking your psp when writing to flash, and when you upgrade or downgrade you have to wright to flash.

So, for those thinking Pandora doesn’t work, I once accidentally deleted EVERYTHING off the PSP flash, so i had NO OS at all, when i turned it on, not even the screen turned a lighter shade of black. and Pandora fixed it… so pandora can fix any brick this might bring on…
There is ONE sistuation where Pandora will not work…if your restoring a nand and then take the battery out. Pandora will not work (ie installation of firmware)…but restoring the nand again will. Do NOT try this without a nand backup, because Pandora will NOT fix this itself. Very rare instance, unless you like to mess around with stuff.
which is why everyone should make a nand dump of their psp BEFORE trying any CFW, dax or other.

Well… Why didn’t this “Ketchup” fella do a 3.95 cfw ? It’s been out for some time now. I guess that a more refined 3.93 is better than a quick 3.95… Still, 3.90 M33-3 is ok (a bit more laggy than 3.80 M33-5 but still ok).
which means to me they should be working on trying to make 3.90m33 much more stable than it is. it doesnt make sense to update to this its just gonna have more bugs than 3.90

3.90 m33-3 is good enough for me also, plus its the base of dc v5 so if anything goes wrong I can instantly recover.
i try the cfw 393,everything works great but popsloader cant be use.i went back to 390m33-3 after i read that some psp are brick because of this.wich custom firmware is better 380 or 390 m33.
my psp just broke after a day of using this !!! Wtf I miss 3.90

i hate this fw, cant run pops lol but thatrecovery menu is sweet if you go to recovery and go to advance and access flash0 go to resauarced and MODULE and take out the recovery.prx and flash it to another fw thatz what i did
now i got 3.90M33-3 with the kool recovery XDD

Does FF7 work? ;_; …I still need to buy another battery to make the pandora, but don’t have the cash now…so I’m trying to learn any alternative ways for it to work. Yeah I have 3.90 m33-3 -___-
u can open the battery and convert one but its far easier to use a psp phat or slim (with older motherboard fer slim) and use a converter homebrew. that way u can convert it back while the hardware way u cant

yeah im guessing DA made this because… well at first “m33″ was supposedly made by a Russian group then later on DA says he’s behind m33 so thats in Spain..? maybe he just gets paranoid once in awhile..?
either way this looks alright, i usually hold off awhile on new CFW until I see what other ppl say about it which is the best thing u can do if u dont got a pbattery
the only problem with CTF 3.93 i cant use programs From game 1.50 that is really not good,i need to wait for the release of 4.00M33

lalala … iv been on all cfw’s till 390 and pandora’d back to my fav 3.52cfw ,a bad idea to upgrade when you know little about a cfw version and yer dax is always safest but not all dax cfw’s are good.
also ,anyone noticed very little happening on the psp front ,i love my psp and wouldnt be without it ,i have i think everything i would want on it tho mabe a prefect snes emu or a top media player would round it off.
i have bought an xbox latly and have hacked the hell out of it and must admit its mega ,iv even got the psp controlling the xbox media centre via wirless,if any of you are bored and need something fresh to hack buy the old box and get it running the good stuff.

Im alwes going to stick to 3.71 M33-4. To me, thats the best firmware every made :).
Shhhhh! We need these people to try it for us. lol… I am on 3.71 m33-4 as well and it works great for me but I’m sure that sooner or later I will need to use 3.80 or 3.90 pops for a game sooooo…. I’m just waitin on another firmware that is as stable and great as 3.71 m33-4
This happened back in the days of 3.71cf….when Dark Alex was waiting for more significant firmwares than (3.72/3.73), some one stepped up to the plate, re-engineered the firmwares and modified them slightly. Dark Alex will return for the Big 4.0
And God, we are going to need Him then… probley changed the encryption and everything else in the sub-system.
Just installed this and checked it out, Seems sweet, so far eveything worked fine and the recovery mode is ace, Love the Pandora battery app built in.
Very easy to update just like a normal update from Sony.

Anyone ever think that maybe DA might be using this “anonymously” submitted new cfw to test out a few things? i mean seriously SOMEONE is going to try it and in doing that you find the bugs. The guinea pigs who have bricked so far shoulda been a little smarter and had pandora nearby…. poor guinea pigs.
just googled 3.93 CFW and found a few names of who supposedly made this. We have Ketchup and now I saw on the pspinfo site someone named Yellow_Rain
They should consult with dark_alex FIRST.
don’t care much for the update, i just updated for the new recovery. i updated to 3.93 copied the recovery and then downgraded back to 3.90m33-3 and put the new recovery in. Everything works fine at first and after i set the kernl to 1.5 and back to 3.93 i lost the pandora options which is weird

I had this for a while and went back to 3.90M33-3 i just felt that this cfw was unstable….
yeah my cfw was unstable to. my psp exploded after 6 hours, 7 min and 36 secnds, and fireworks came out of it with the shape of sony’s logo and some letters telling me i was dead for being the worst cyberpunk in the world.

The onyl thing unstable about this firmware, is that it plays .ISOS better than CSOS, compression can cause a number of effects that can alter or effect the gameplay(That’s a given). Otherwise all those ppl that are doubting this firmware, DON’T! This firmware release offers more than 3.90m33 does, so quit your bitching and try it out for yourselves.Otherwise, if you have nasty comments about something you don’t know, then fuck off!!
