PSP-Maps v1.0 Released
greg | April 23, 2008
Ooo… Beefed up for the Homebrew Idol competition is Royale with his latest version of PSP-Maps. You know what it’s all about — just with added freshness.

To unlock Google Moon, Google Mars, and Google Sky; you’ll need to do a little investigative work. So you should download the source code as well.
PSP-Maps is a tool that allows you to browse Google Maps, Virtual Earth and Yahoo Maps with your PSP and its WiFi connection. You can move around the map, zoom in and out, cycle through the different available views, search for an address, load/save favorites, etc…
It includes a cache system so you can browse later the maps you have previously seen, even if you don’t have WiFi available. There is also a PC version if you don’t have WiFi at all, so you can build a cache on your computer and copy it to your PSP.
Technically, PSP-Maps connects directly to the servers to fetch the images, it does not use the provided APIs since there are usually in JavaScript and not convenient for a homebrew.
PSP-Maps v1.0 changes:
- added GP2X version;
- added Google Moon, Google Mars and Google Sky support; if you find the “cheat” code, you can enable these;
- fixed Google Terrain view;
- new splash screen for the PSP-Hacks competition with sound.

Nice, now I will be able to find my way around the moon on the go!
No WiFi on the moon =)
At Capcom logo sound: Down, R Trigger, Up, L Trigger, Square, Cross…you’ll hear a sped-up ‘Yo!’ if you did it fast enough. :P
dont forget up up down down left left right tight a b select start you mite get a 100 maps…hehe :P
didnt think the psp had a and b buttons lmao FKN TOOL>!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is this the so-called “cheat” code to unlock google moon, mars and sky?
Ahhh… the good old days. I remember selling 2 games and saving money to pay £60 for the first street fighter 2 on the SNES when it came out (”arcade perfect”) , gold box an all :))))
Hahaha… What a funny guy that Royale.
i’ll wait untill it’s stable….nice one and keep up the good work!
psp hacking is going slow nowadays
since this is a version 1.0, is it not stable?
this project has come a long way, great work keep it up.
That logo haunts my dreams, and my shoulder still hurts everytime I hear it.
One of the most useful PSP apps to date. No longer need GPS or a map for the car =D
I thought MapThis! implemented a lot of things, is PSP-Maps any different?
MapThis! was a GPS sort of homebrew, this is just a google map/virtual earth/online map veiwer. I like this more, :-) good work.
You could use MapThis! also without GPS hardware as a viewer, that’s because i asked if there is some more difference between those two.
i found the thing in the code. you need a google maps api key and enter it in pspmaps.c
now, how i do i compile this?
No, it is not so complicated. The API key is only used for address search.
You don’t need to recompile the program to enable Google Moon/Mars/Sky, just use the cheat code given by JLsoft above.
BUG REPORT:
i noticed if you run this game while plugged into a charger, it disables charging.
you can never charge when you’re using wifi
if you use internet browser when charging, it does the same thing
there is a prx lpugin that lets you charge your psp while o n wifi like internet or socom
i like psp map homebrew.. i use it as my guide since i travel(canada) a lot in my work. and it is very usefull. but i just want to comment why am i not getting closer anymore when i view our house at the philippines? before i can see our roof top but now it says the picture is unavailable.. i hope you can do somehting
to charge while on wifi just launch em thru the ir shell
Great app. Just one improvement suggestion:
When zooming in/out use a fade in addition to the zoom effect, this should give a better looking effect.
I mean: Start from far view with far image at 100% scale and alpha, closer image reduced scale and behind far image. While zooming in, update linearly to: Far image amplified scale but 0% alpha, closer image at 100% scale, still behind far image but now visible as it is transparent. Similar sequence for the zoom out.
Sounds kool, so how do u install it from scratch?
how do you save the maps and view them without wifi
Use the PC version to browse the areas you want, then copy everything to your PSP and abort the wireless selection dialog.
Very nice work Royale. Kudos on the Capcomish intro and cheat code idea for moon/sky/mars.
