lol fun
<_< I know this sounds stupid… but I wonder if theres any chance of making some sort of Windows VM… I know it would not run XP/Vista or any of that crap… but the PSP has better hardware (333MHz possessors, 32MB Ram) then my old Laptop, and that thing could run 98…
Iv seen windows installed on the PSP before, but… its not that good…
So what about a windows Application emulator? stick a bunch of runtime libraries on the psp or something? Or is that just not possible… blah…. I have no idea what Im talking about at this point… Ill shut up now.
Hmmm….ok question. What’s the name of the program running in the screen shot?
Btw, if anyone wants to know where you can get .jar files…. http://www.getjar.com
well, we’ve seen almost everything that is possible to do ….but…..the last thing and i think what most people are waiting for is Linux being ported to the psp. I know there is and applications, but you can only put commands, it doesnt have the graphiv interfearence. so i think that what most of us are waiting for. And yea it would be nice have at least 98 or even better Xp
what is the game in the screen shot?
Rollercoaster Rush.
..hmm about what jaryth000 said it would be cool playing windows based games on your psp..i’ll love to see starcfrat on psp (not that lamo homebrew 1 lol) anywaz awsome emu playing homebrew zelda jar file i found lying around heres a link : ] http://zeldamobile.gorthwogh.net/
I don’t think that win 98 can be emulated at any decent speed on the psp. It would need to have a dynamic recompilation engine (jit in java terminology), and for a decent speed would require more free ram for the execution buffers than the psp (phat or slim) has.
The reason that dosbox works well is that dos is not multitasking and it doesn’t have to keep execution buffers for any other tasks in memory.
How about WINE?
It’ll still need dynarec for executing the windows app. Then the windows api, direct x, direct 3d and direct sound need porting.
Oh, and huge chunks of the linux kernel need porting too, to provide pthreads and other services to WINE.
All this requires ram to run and store all the data structures used.
The overheads are too large for the PSP to handle.
yeah, a nice bottle of red or someing ;)
hehehe
how do i put fone games on this then
It’s a nice app, but it really needs a decent way to input words. The keyboard provided is useless, I have to press all the buttons in an attempt to find the right letter when entering an address in Opera Mini. A full QWERTY keyboard will be a very nice addition.
Keep up the good work!
Everytime i try to install something from the ms i get connection errors :S
You need to install from a .jad file that is located in the same directory as the .jar file.
iv always wondered ,when it comes to emulation and the lack of memory availible on systems such as dreamcast and sega saturn it can stop an emulator from running but with psp tho yes it has little memory, why cant the memory stick be used ,say pertition 512 off of the memory stick for extended memory for all/any app on psp.
why cant this be done ?
i know theres a difference between memory and ram ,but isnt it the same as well ?
The ms is accessed in pretty much the same way as a hard drive on a PC, It is not ram.
To be able to use Virtual memory (ie map ram to the ms), would require the cpu to have a Memory Management Unit (MMU). Sadly, the Allegrex cpu in the PSP does not have one.
Me and my team at acid mods is working on deleting the entire PSP OS and replacing it with custom Linux OS for the PSP because where installing touch screens into a few psp’s over here..
I dont suppose anyone has found the Metal Gear Mobile game yet?
And if so,..does it work with this?
