Chipmunk Physics Demo PSP

Posted by greg

Laying some groundwork for potential homebrew dopeness is MK2k with a Chipmunk Physics port.

This PSP demonstration is ported from Slembcke’s chipmunk physics library and the included demos that showcase its capabilities. For graphics and user input, MK2k uses the JGE++ Engine by Dr. Watson.

i dont get it ,its 2d and not very impressive at all ,why is all the psp homebrew 2d or minimal 3d at best.

why cant we have the entire halflife engine ported to psp ? the mods that could come from that would be tops, better still why havent we seen anything from virtools on homebrew yet.

i think the psp has some amazing apps and emulators now but nothing like a desent halflife clone, what about 3dgs/gamestudio cant we get that ported over to psp ,i have a few of my own projects that would look and play lovely on psp.

ohh ,and almost forgot ,i can port halflife and others to 3dgs ,so if anyone knows alot about virtools like if demos and software can be ported to virtools ,please let me know.

i would love to port my stuff over to virtools if the psp can run it.

I don’t think you will be able to use virtools for psp homebrew, as the libs used are only available to Sony licenced developers to use with the official toolchain.

With this library, you can define shapes and their weight and don’t have to care about the physics going on in the “world” anymore, because the library does that for you :)

Awesome man. Be cool to see a linerider made with this physics engine with bonus’. It could be “LineRider+”. Anyhow, keep up the good work, and to all the shitheads who think this sucks, just wait till a kick ass game comes out with this engine. Then ya’ll can eat it!

Well, you are right. I tested it with my own GBA, applied a force of exactly 5 Newton to it in parallel to the ground and it fell down the stairs REALLY realistic. OMG!

Hahaha, I love sarcarsm… It didnĀ“t work on my GBC though. That just sucks… like pepe.

Anyway, this really is promising! Seriusly, my favorite games are all 2D and this looks amazing!
MK2k, thanks for your hard work.

[…] Posted by greg While we’re at the common standstill, which seemingly occurs every couple of weeks, I’ll share a little PSP Hacks Homebrew Idol update with y’all… The deadline was April 30th; however, as MK2k says, “good software takes time.” So in effort to meet the needs of developers, we’ll extend the contest further… Currently we have two entries — Pirata Nervo’s NervOS and MK2k’s Chipmunk Physics port / demonstration. iPhysics, Crayon physics. All this kinda stuff is able to be made with the Chipmunk physics engine as well as the Box2D engine. I myself won’t make it, as I don’t have much fun with draw-and-it-behaves-like-a-physical-object stuff. However I’m working on another game approach using Chipmunk, stay tuned :)
