Project4 Open Beta 4 Released

Posted by greg

The ‘brew known as Project4 just received one hell of an update… Serving as a complete XMB replacement; Open Beta 4 adds more functionality, eliminates many bugs likely experienced in past versions, and features a new super speedy installer—less than 20 seconds now.

Project4 UMD Mode Screenshot

Auraomega isn’t clownin’ around. She’s a big one…

  • Added a “faded” look to menus.
  • Flash3 mounting in read/write mode.
  • Added disc0:/ mounting in read mode.
  • Split the fonts allowing for separate main fonts and clock fonts.
  • Fix background loading some files, this will be used in the next version more.
  • Changed the way the album art is displayed, when a song is played with “Album.jpg” the image is placed in the centre of the screen with a black background surrounding it.
  • Icons now have a transition effect instead of just appearing they now slide from each other, this can be turned off for a speedup or just to fit more with the theme.
  • Added the ability to change CPU and bus speeds via the config, the default is 222 and 111, these can be lowered for normal use if the transition effect on icons is switched off.
  • BSoD errors can be bypassed by pressing the 2 shoulder buttons and square, although users do so at their own risk, most of the time errors just stop functions working, but they could lead to some serious errors, use with caution.
  • Removed sysDump for this version.
  • Added an errorLog dump which dumps the information that appears when a BSoD occurs which means you can post errors even if you don’t have a computer around at the time.
  • Added an alternative load menu which can load files in different ways. Current options are:
    • Extension Mode
    • Hex
    • Delete
    • Rename
    • Create Directory
    • Copy File
    • Paste
  • Utilized the PSPs OSK.
  • Icons can be linked to both folders and files for even faster use of Project4
  • Date now added to the “Extended Menu”, along with current folder location.
  • A “Message Box” has been added to tell you what mode you are in, and when you have changed modes.
  • Extended the filebrowsers file list to now show up to 10 pages, instead of the old 4. If anyone finds this value to low let me know so I can increase it further.
  • Volume checking (thanks to sakya for helping with the kernel exports).
  • Volume bar.
  • Image viewer movement smoother as now uses both frame buffers and culling. This removes a lot of graphical glitches.
  • “Extended Menu” now has the ability to change what loading mode ISOs work in, meaning you can load video and music ISOs (this is untested as I do not have any video or music UMDs, feedback on this would be helpful).
  • Added a screensaver functions.
  • System idle time can be changed for the screensaver, anything 0 or less will disable the screensaver completely.
  • Sped up the change from the image viewer to the filebrowser / main menu.

And of course, plenty of bug fixes. Please see Project4’s readme for everything of the utmost importance; it’s encouraged you read that over before installing/using. Enjoy!

When you say “Place the EBOOT.PBP in the GAME or GAME3XX folder”. You actually mean to put it in a folder named whatever you want in the GAME or GAME3XX folder like this ms0/PSP/GAME/PROJECT 4/EBOOT.PBP right?

    Comment by Auraomega
    2008-03-24 15:58:28

Yep, thats the correct way, I really didn’t realise I had done that, and neither did my proof reader. All EBOOT files must go in a subdirectory inside the GAME or GAME3XX folders.

Black_Raven, why not just make an EVOX theme for Project4? It’s alot easier to customize and you don’t need to learn programming. Have a look at your flash1/p4 folder to see what I mean.

Theres only 3 patches, on 3 files (9 patches in total).

You should post this as a bug report on my site with as much info as possible, there also appears to be another user facing the same problem (without more information from you, I can’t be sure).

Seems the cause is lack of flash0 space, I forgot to mention this in the readme (because originally Project4 was going to go into flash3 instead). Try deleting your DIC folder (root of flash0 I believe) and see if that installs.

If you join the forums, those sorts of questions are easier to answer on there, plus I’m planning on making a tutorial of sorts some time today so drop by and take a read.

I did read the two readme files and my game folder is set to 3.90.
I am not running any plugins

will this fix the wifi not working error (80410A0B)
any1 know how to fix that error yet????!?!!?

    Comment by Auraomega
    2008-03-25 12:50:33

Nope, as far as my understanding goes, that is an error with the hardware, not the software (one of my PSPs had this) a clean installation didn’t fix it, so it must be hardware related. Getting a new WiFi board should fix it.

i got 2 psp’s and swapped the wifi card and it still didnt work…one of my psp’s didnt have this problem until one day it jus stopped working and then worked for a couple of hours and finally it stopped workin permanently…i fucking hate that shit!! then i heard that i might have burned the wifi card by clocking the cpu at 333

i heard that this could be fixed by deletinig the cache for the network…could be a different problem, but might be worth a try…it was occuring some time back upon upgrading to a newer firmware…haven’t had the problem myself as i dont use the wifi all that often but give it a shot anyways
