Sushi Rubik v1.2: Virtual Rubik’s Cube

greg | March 17, 2008

Team Sushi has released a smooth-runnin’ homebrew rendition of a virtual Rubik’s Cube for the PSP.

For whatever reason you’re unfamiliar with the classic “Rubik’s Cube” game; here’s the quick ‘n dirty… A standard 3×3x3 cube has 9 colours for each of its 6 faces. The puzzle is solved when you have each face one solid colour.

Have fun figuring it out. Kudos on the release, Team Sushi.

Features:

  • 3×3×3 classic Rubik’s Cube simulator
  • default controls can update all but back face without rotating, with two alternate sets of controls.
  • undo/redo all moves
  • save/load current cube in progress
  • timed challenge from a scrambled cube, and freestyle solving modes
  • recorded high scores for timed challenge, compare with your best time
  • beginners solution style autosolve
  • 4 visualizations of cube state for a background
  • estimate of moves remaining for a beginner’s solution
  • animated rotations
  • works in French or English

Actually, this is a sweet piece of homebrew. Homebrew software isn’t all custom firmware and shell extensions you know ;)

9 colors for each of its 6 sides refers to the 9 blocks of color on each side.

I actually laughed at the fact people thought it was a typo.

good release though, Bit bland compared to some of the other stuff out there, but thats just my opinion.

Great piece of homebrew, I’m having a lot of fun with it. Though if you could a full 360 degree turn like someone above me mentioned, this would be Rubix perfection. I don’t know how difficult that would be, but that’s the only flaw I can find.

I agree, with xIAMDAVEx on this one… I thought it was sad enough that I sit around tinkering with my psp non stop, now people are playing rubiks cube on them. Pretty soon we will get an “office chair” homebrew… we can roll it around and act like we have a life.

I am having trouble rotating the cube so the top goes to the bottom so I can continue solving the puzzle. I have played with the control settings, but somehow I can’t seem to know which move make the top (yellow) move to the bottom (orange).
