greg | March 8, 2008

Marking the first official entry in our PSP Hacks homebrew competition is developer Pirata Nervo with NervOS v1.0.

NervOS is an alternative shell replacement sharing many similarities with AhMan’s iR Shell. Development continues and ongoing discussions are happening — just follow the release thread.

haha excellent work , looks like NervOS is picking up where ahman left off with this new shell. since ahman’s been doing irshell for a long time, i’m kinda used to irshell and i trust it a lot. so i’ll be using irshell for a while. but this looks great and has a future in the psp hacking community, and i know i will be using this soon.

once again excellent work!

Is it just me, or does this homebrew seem kinda.. Pointless. Everything you can do on that ‘brew, you can do EVERYTHING on the Custom Firmwared PSP already. If someone is developing a nice Homebrew for this competition, do something nice. Don’t get me wrong, this ‘brew is alright and I’ve used it, but I just don’t see the point. Get my point ?

Good point….if you think so,WHY don’t YOU make something which is USEFUL and stop giving idiotic comments on things that you can’t do.It’s an EXCELLENT homebrew.

Dude shut up idiot I am so sick of people saying OOOHH duh um why dont you make it if you so smart and shit all he was saying is that if your going to put forth the effort that it took to make this, you might as well put it towards something we do not already have. Great work by the way its just I agree with playboy.

since 3.90 CFW doesn’t really work with the “ingame” music feature in the IRSHELL, hopefully in the future this shell will get the same feature that is supportive

Comment by DepheCt
2008-03-09 23:09:04

You can do that in normal CFW, just need a plugin.

Uhm…

So is this work based off irshell’s src? Cuz I know ahman was going to release the src at some point. So Did Nervo actually get the src and tweak from there or is this from scratch?

Screw you all who’re flaming. most of you are so good at critiquing and pointing out how this homebrew fails, but i’d like to see any of you submit something worth trying.

I know this is a 1.0 and is an early version. Looks good for a start. The first IRshell didnt look or function that well but it kept developing and working until what it’s become now. Comparing this 1.0 to the current IRshell isn’t a very even comparison, but the creator still has much room to grow.

I hope that there is finally a competition for IRShell, not that i dislike ahman’s work either.

everybody CALM DOWN!
this homebrew is a 1.0 and an early version
right about that
so why the hell should ne1 care about this?
we have irshell
its better
its a later version
sure its not an even comparison either
but thats the point
why use this when u can use irshell?

I agree that IRshell does surpass this shell, but that doesn’t mean im not interested in it. he could throw in features that IRshell doesn’t have. Also, Irshell is only re-releasing the same old thing with new tweaks. has been for a while. I’m not putting down irshell, that is why it’s become so stable, but with new development starting, we could see some real new stuff here. By automatically saying that this new shell sucks means that we’re not encouraging further development. Think of all the people who may have said that about dev hook or Dark_Alex’s work who were just happy with the golden firmware and look at where we’re at now.

Video Player!

Comment by Lawthugg

What he should implement for this shell is divx, xvid and mpg support along with the standard mov suppor. This would be a great addition.

Comment by Overbuary
2008-03-12 08:10:17

The only reason there isnt a implemented a xvid, divx, etc. is because they require alot of processing power that the psp dosent have..

I feel as a developer, you should try and work on extending the xmb, People like it, its what there used to and it works, but lacks features, surely the need for a different shell is purley for peoples tates, which will change. I mean, does anyone have any problems with the sony xmb, other than the fact that it lacks a lot of feautues. I personally feel its quite a nice interface to use. Not being negative but I really cant see the point, no offence to anyone meant

Now this is not a flame comment or anything, this is definately some nice work…but I don’t think it has what it takes to blow everyone’s mind for the competition.

I personally don’t see what the big deal is about a custom shell…so I shall wait for more entries to arise for the competition :)

To be honest, these need critisism, if not, how would you be able to really say which is the best CFW? Critisism should be welcomed. Yes if someone doesn’t like it, say and why. If you like it, say and why. Then maybe Nervos can go back and do something else to try and make it better for future releases.

constructive criticism is different, but saying “this app sucks and u should stop makin homebrew” is not constructive and unnecessary.

the psp has way too many amazing homebrew goodies for it ,so in respect to the author ,yeh its a nice peice of work but we need to see the sparkley eyes lighting up at something new or never been done before on psp to get a chance of winning the golden prize. !!!!

btw, i had put my thoughts across on what would be very kool for psp to win golden prize, and from the looks of things a custom gui is the right place to start ,get some plugins running at the sametime/multitask and you have a winner.

this app is a great start, though i don’t believe it will go anywhere for a long time, cause of how stable and user friendly ir shell is. however if there was a video player, multitasking, and hosting it would be very useable, i do like the idea of it being able to play homebrew without having to switch between 3.xx and i.5 versions like ir shell. keep it up, looking forward to future releases.

Comment by Carnivac
2008-03-10 06:39:21

See, I actually find IR Shell extremely un-user friendly and messy. Right now I’m pretty happy with the regular XMB and USBhostFS running on it.

Comment by fivefinger
2008-03-11 03:07:20

its only messy cause you havent looked into any custom backrounds. and it is very user friendly, just like everything else you have to get used to it first, just like this program, but until it has more features i refuse to try.

Comment by jake
2008-03-12 13:43:49

how could u say its not user friendly
its designed very well and its similar to windows explorer
just find the music folder, any folder, select the songs with circle to make a playlist, pick the last with x and u have a playlist running
then u can play an iso
and thats the most basic part of irshell
theres so much u can do with it
u need to take the time to learn it (15 min at most for the basic necessities)

ok first i wanna say nice job and i do say this is usefull think of it not needing sonys offical firm. or having to boot up a second hombrew to run other stuff (not putting down irshell ive had it since 1st release) and take up more mem on the psp (not saying that this doesnt take up any) but come on with further up dates it might be just as good as irshell. and if we put down every homebrew that was a “copy” ideas wouldnt have been thrown around to improve on one another. all im saying is dont kill something before it starts again great job for this app and to all devs. no matter how “little” or “useless” an app or mod may seem
