This was just brought to my attention… Whether or not you knew about it — PSPTube is capable of DivX video playback!
It’s simple –
Again, confirmed working on my Slim. I’ve only tried smaller sized videos — no full length features or anything of that nature. Try it out and let us know your experience below.

Thanks for the DIVX feature. And …. Thanks for helping the PSP Community !!!
I dont know about anyone else… but I sure as hell didnt know this was possible, but this is what I have been waiting for lol… Thanks.
This is some crazy stuff. I;m gonna start converting all my s#it
what??? i think divx was a normal feature on psptube!!! think all know that!!! unfortunally it plays slooow 4 resolutions greater than 320×240. one more thing it also plays MPEG n WMA just give a try!!!
sorry its WMV
It will play divx .avi as well (playing bleach on it right now)
BUT very jumpy and slow =(
it’s getting closer to full support of Divx =)
Ya i played an .avi too. The video speed wasnt bad, but the audio was terrible.
576×432 @ 1101kbps video. 48000hz, 16bps, 2ch audio
it lags
I just don’t see why the hell Sony does not release an update adding Divx support.
rumors say 4.0 will suport it
What rumors are you talking about? don’t believe that guy. ^
the rumors are true.
that is all.
You guys are all aware of PMPmod right? It came out like 2 years ago and plays divx/xvid full res with no lag.
There was another app that plays them too, PSPlayer Advance or something, but PMPmod rules, I’ve been watching all my xvid TV and movies forever now.
Yes them programs play divx and xvid BUT you have to convert them to the PSP size ratio befor you can play them Whitch Kills the hole point of Why we want Divx and Xvid support.
It will be a Nice day when you can just Pop in a Video and Go without waiting to convert them and make sure they did not messup after you convert it. (right now playing a moive on the psp is to much work just to play a movie you Most likely done seen)
Sorry, but I wholeheartedly disagree with your comment. Converting movies to PMP couldn’t be simpler - as long as you use the correct tools for the job. Currently I’m using AVItoPMP, and it can convert a full-length movie in just under an hour (on my old laptop). As long as you don’t use the “Sharp” feature when encoding to XviD, it has never messed up a single encode for me. However, I do plan to code a better tool myself some day, but I’m boggered down with schoolwork atm.
Oh, and the idea of pop-n-play (lol) sounds really great, but it’ll probably stay as it is - an idea. The CPU of the PSP, not to forget its RAM, is simply not capable of playing movies with too high resolutions or certain encoding methods.
Oh, one thing I forgot to add. If the movie you are going to convert has a sensible resolution (haven’t experimented much, 800×480 or less?), it’s even simpler - you can skip the encoding itself and just wrap it in the .pmp format. Takes about 1 minute for a full-length movie.
Also - I don’t know how efficiently the PSPTube app utilize your battery power, but PMPMod can play constantly for about 8 hours on a single charge (probably more).
This is great news but what about streaming?.. I’ve been thinking, why not set up something like macromedia flash media server or whatever they call their video streaming/transcoding framework to stream to the PSPTube client?, wouldnt that be totally possible?
There’s something I’ve been using called PimpStreamer which does almost exactly that! You can stream just about any video format (.divx,.xvid,.wmv etc) directly from your PC to your PSP via WiFi and all the conversion is done on the fly! Works great…give it a try.
go to stage6.com apparently its going to shut down FOREVER after Thursday Feb, 28. 2008
um u wrote that after the 28th
WOW… That is just one more thing to add to custom PSP’s that sony won’t do… Nice work…
can someone please tell me how to install the files and where???? Thanks
psp/game/psptube and put all the files in the cfw371mm3/psptube/ in there
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CUSTOM FIRMWARE
kinda pointless tome, have to convert to divx first then pop it in my psp, why not just convert to psp format instead. but i can see high hopes for this cost once complete we will finally have a full working media player tht supports avi and mpeg
OMG SCCCCCHHWEEET WOWOW I WISHING FOR THIS I MUST SAY PSP IS NOW OFFICIALLY ONE OF MY MOST LOVABLE SYSTEM INEVER REGRET BUYING
STAGE 6 Has just closed!!! Thats means there will be less Divx file access to us.
You realise this DivX support also stretches to basically every Xvid rip of a film, TV programme etc found on the common warez sites today…
I’ve tried a 640×480 xvid video at about 900kbps. That didn’t go so well, but even dropping it to 512×384 at 600kbps looks great still and plays very well.
320×240 videos play totally flawlessly (at about 500kbps)
combine this with psp filer and your set if your not near a computer
Sony might not release divx support seeing that Stage6 has closed down..what a bummer
Yeah, it works, but the audio is not good, and the video is at bad framerate….
but the future once does look better, :) I do hope we get full divx / xvid support in the real sony firmware…
I dont bother converting files to PSP video format, it’s much better just drag and drop all those downloads of new rips…
I use PiMP Streamer. That works really well and if you get your settings right you can get a nice balance between quality/speed etc.
i dunno how to do it
were is the divx video file?
been waiting for this for a damn long time…. i hope this works out just the way i want it to!
sofiyacat should jus get da source code of pimpstreamer and tweak it to make a code for .avi .wmv .mpg ……. etc to implent into psptube jus a suggestion
tried this when i seen psptube could access stage6. this also works (albiet crappily) with xvid files using the avi container after you rename the vid extension divx. i did this with a non-converted tv show sound was really choppy and did not sync and the vid lagged horribly, maybe the next step will be to add in a way to reduce the system load to open up larger files with higher screen res.. alot of oppertunities here now
nice work, it works on fat.i like this
can it play flv using the same way?
can it play flv using the same way?
yes. it can
