Go!Messenger Released in Europe

greg | February 28, 2008

Update: Not from Europe? Do this –

  1. Boot to the custom firmware recovery console (hold R-Trigger when booting)
  2. Browse to Configuration and set “Fake region” to Europe
  3. Back, then Exit
  4. Select the Go!Messenger icon, download and install the client
  5. Connect PSP via USB or use something like PSP Filer
  6. Copy (don’t move) PSP/APP/ULES00856 to PSP/GAME/ULES00856; keep a copy of DATA.DRM in PSP/APP/ULES00856
  7. Optionally reset your region back to the default (using the recovery console)
  8. Launch Go!Messenger from the game menu and sign up

Our European readers should hop on their PSP right about now. Sony Europe has launched their Go!Messenger service allowing voice & video chat over any WiFi network. Install the Go!Messenger client from the XMB and create yourself an account.

Technomike from Europe quotes:

They said it would be today and it is! I waited all night for this and it’s finally here.

Go!Messenger has been released and can be downloaded from the Go!Messenger icon on European PSP’s (both versions of course). It is a separate application from the firmware which is downloaded when you go on the Icon. It is not built into the firmware.

An account at BT.com is required and also a Go!Messenger separate account. Both of which can be registered when you have the application on your PSP.

The application is great! Works well and I have been using it.

OK App installed on PSP perfect. Registered online perfect and account active, yet everytime I try to login via PSP authentication failed? What’s wrong???

you need 2 email from bt.com and go messenger. the one that activates go messenger is the go messenger email saying its active. when you get the email you can then log in. it usually takes a day

just go into recovery>configuration>fake region mode
and then set it to europe

I tried that, but it doesn’t seem to work. Fails to download the client — loads the browser with a blank page.

The URL (only seems to work on PSP)

http://gomessenger.bt.com/gmp/clientdownload/download.do

I noticed the icon didn’t show up when PSP was set the American region, might want to set region to europe to download.

Hope it helps anyone.

It worked for me. Set my region to Europe. Then went and found the program in PSP->Apps, and copied to my PSP->Game folder, set my region back to US and it still boots from the game menu.

If you’re getting the blank page, its working, its just their server is so bogged down right now probably cause everyone is trying to download it and make new accounts and what not.

Go here and make an account http://gomessenger.bt.com/register well not right now, the page is so slow it times out, but eventually.

Then go here http://www.sendspace.com/file/a344yx and download the RAR file and copy it to PSP->GAME and enjoy.

Just got through a second… you can spam the following page to try and register. Seems they got a PC client also “Even if your friends don’t have a PC, you can message them with Go!Messenger: (or something similiar). (prob alot of engrish there, doesn’t seem right, but it’s about 5 AM here so gimme a break :P )

Go F5-Rangers … >:-)

Comment by lpopman

It’s from BT (British Telecom), so it shouldn’t be in engrish at all ;)

IS THIS 4.00 update?

Comment by Blizzardy
2008-02-28 23:46:01

Nope, just the Go!Messenger that should have come with 3.90

Seems to be Europe only, but “faking it” seems to work … GL!

(Geez, site is still overloaded)

Ahhh, this is neat: “Version information” ( /\ on the icon .. “bladiebla … check latest version:”)

Got me the same page layout that gave me the Go!Messenger (Same PSP only crap too):
http://gomessenger.bt.com/sony/client/download.jsp

The app goes into ms:/PSP/APP/
and has 2 files:
DATA.DRM - 6.30 MB
EBOOT.PBP - 1.03 MB

Trying to find an easy place to upload these, since BT is can’t handle us >:-P

(Hmm, seems the register page is kinda loading now, no fast 404 :P)

cool, got it downloaded now - copied to PSP/GAME from PSP/APP (copy, don’t move it - need DATA.DRM in PSP/APP/ULES00856) and it loaded up fine. registering now, but it’s awfully slow.

Here is the file in ZIP, use the same structure. I recommend using the normal way, but if you can’t wait, this should be it:

http://www.uploading.com/files/YNP0MGQB/Go!messenger.zip.html
(Has a 60 sec timer and some adds.)

Hope it helps anyone! ;-)

gotta fake it - just select one from the list

Comment by Blizzardy
2008-02-29 00:41:36

I didn’t lie, but I’m from europe anyway. :P

I don’t think it matters much though, highly unlikely you’ll get denied or something like that.
Seems it’s just for info for the messenger itself.
Anyway, you can alter all the info you enter later on …

( Seems the site is kinda working now, took me like 30 min. just to register. >_< )

I had the same problem, I think I exited the browser prematurely. Fix: go through the registration process again. When asked about the BT account, say you already have one — use the credentials set from your first attempt. Continue onward and near the very end, when the page doesn’t seem to fit nicely in the browser, scroll right and down to finish registration.

I can log in fine now.

also i found if you cant log in and keep getting an error try logging in at bt.com on your comp or in the browser of the psp and change your password.. that is what i had to do..

you have the “APP” folder with the folder for the GoMessenger inside of there. just copy that, and paste it into the “game” folder. then go to ur recovery menu>configuration and set the kernel to 3.90. it should work then…

alright well i don’t really like this app all that much. who CAN u send messages to exactly?? and it freezes wen u want to add a new number for “text chat”. i kinda got it just so i can text people from it and u cant really do it. hmm

Comment by kamizzle225
2008-02-29 03:58:25

text chat is referred to “instant messaging chat”, not phone sms. so if you have no contacts added, it freezes with no one added in your contacts. i’m not going to lie, this messaging is kinda pointless after all lol. especially since it has no support for aim.

go here first. http://gomessenger.bt.com/register

you need to have a bt.com account set up first, so when it asks you if u have one in the second step, you need to create one. after you create one…click on that above link once again. then in the second step where it asks you if you already have a bt.com account, you say yes…and follow the steps from there. yes the steps are the same when you register for go!messenger as when you register for bt.com

hope that helps

once you register ,you will have a bt account from there goto be.com and choose acount then your registration will continue ,from there you complete the reg and it will tell you to wait for a second email that will confirm your account and enable it.

you should then be able to connect ,i thought for some reason i would be able to chat to windows and yahoo messenger with this but no go ….

so i can only chat to psp users and i dont have the cam or a mic and i dont even have a friend with a psp !!! so erm …… whats the point.

ohh and by the way ,logans shadow psp game has a nice chat room for psp users not in game ,i also think tiger woods 08 does as well so if you dont have a cam and a psp buddy you will be logged into a blank screen.

Ok well, I got it all working and I must say I am seriously let down, there is no actual “chat”. I thought this thing would have chat room and what not, but you just have to already “know” people. So this is pretty useless… I wish they would put more detail on these things before I waste hrs of my time on something worthless.
