Update: The contest deadline has been extended — please submit final entries by May 31st, 2008. Furthermore, PSP Hacks member, Donkey, has donated his fully hacked 3.90 M33 PSP with carrying case, car charger, and 2GB memory stick. The lucky winner will receive that plus the $500 (CDN) cash prize.
We at PSP Hacks truly enjoy the fine art of homebrew development. Over the years we’ve held several contests allowing authors to showcase and reap the benefits from their hard work.
Now it’s due time for another PSP Hacks homebrew showdown. Unlike previous competitions we let you — the player — be the judge. This time ’round there will only be one homebrew evaluator — that’s me.
All submitted entries will be posted and readily available for download; while other users feedback is certainly appreciated, I’ll be the one responsible for selecting your Global PSP Hacks Homebrew Idol.
Rules:
- Create a new homebrew app/game or PRX plugin that will blow mine and everyone else’s face off;
- Update your existing homebrew/plugin to feature something new that will blow mine and everyone else’s face off;
- Entries must be compatible with custom firmware 3.90 M33-2;
- Multiple updates/versions before the deadline (see rule #5) are allowed;
- All final entries must be submitted before
March 31stMay 31st, 2008.
1st place will land you $500 (CDN) cash OR a brand new PSP Slim + games/accessories equaling $500 in value — your pick. All other contestants will receive a complimentary kudos and a make believe participation ribbon.

i been usin vb for years and went to doin psp homebrew when last contest was here. not too hard to convert to from vb, same concept just a little different since its in C :)

SOMEONE MAKE A BETTER N64 EMULATOR AND/OR PS2 EMULATOR
You do know… PS2 emulation on PC is just barely reaching playable speeds across the board, and you want them to do it on a PSP? Yeah, like thats going to happen.
As for the 64 Emu, there has been a LOT of work put into that… and people do not seam to realize that, just because it can not play at full speed yet. It will come.. just be patient.

It also has no where near the power. It just barely manages to emulate PS1…
WHA D’YA MEAN IT BARELY MANAGES TO EMULATE PSX GAMES.i never had any problems with PSXP games .well except on the obvious SECOND analouge stick.
The PSP isn’t as powerful graphics wise as the PS2, so therefore having a PS2 emulator would be completely useless seeing as it’ll only run at like 1 frame per second, and the PS2 uses DVD9 so the games would be huge. As for the N64 emulator, we have StrmNrmn. You shouldn’t trash talk the developer or the emulator just because it isn’t perfect yet. It’s very hard to code for the PSP. And besides, the latest Daedalus emulator makes Mario 64 playable. And there should be a revision on the Daedalus emulator later on this year.

Dark_Alex has better thing to do than participate in this child competitions. With Dark_Alex and its teams, the only competition even worth the challenge is to compete with Sony’s developers.

so any one who doesn’t have a wireless connection can play online and do many things on PSP that required a wireless connection
Great idea. i’ve been wishing about a homebrew similar to this. i was hoping for someone to make a homebrew that can do this and also for a homebrew that will enable us to use the psp as a wifi device/adapter for the pc/laptop. so if ever our own wifi adapters fail we can use our psps as a backup wifi device. i know this is possible. ive been thinking about doing this but i dont have it in me. xD i remember that there was a homebrew that uses the psp for FTP stuff. i think that is valuable stuff for a project like this.
You can probably do that, its just the main problem is that the PSP would probly make the connection pretty slow :-\
Another thing would be…how would it conenct to a phone jack…that would be near impossible unless you harware hack it, or plug it into your computer via usb, and then plug then computer into the phone jack…
i would like an app that uses the psp as a wifi adapter thru usb that would be nice

If someone would code a Basic compiler with built in editor for the PSP that would be nice. Or it could be other programming language or a totally new one.

That is an option if you want to write DOS programs. What I’m talking about is a version of BASIC that will make programming the PSP a breeze, that is it can produce EBP files that can be run inside the PSP itself.
I can’t wait for some people out there to start entering apps I would like to see a Video app to allow yoou to play Divx video an your PSP without having to convert it first or a app that converts it if thats even possible I don’t know and who knowa this might gives us the chance to see if there is another Dark Alex out there besides the Orginal PSP King himself Dark Alex but I dooubt it since he was the first to hack the PSP he is the Godfather of PSP homebrew
If someone was able to make an old PC games emulator, theyd be sure to win. Say windows 95 or 98…

PANDORA’s BATTERY already does this.
Could be he has no access to make one or borrow one. After the battery came out, I don’t think anyone cared to continue looking for loopholes for exploiting and downgrading psp’s. Pandora kinda killed that, with good reason too.

If I were a decent psp coder, I would do either of the following things:
- Make the NDS emulator run as good as the other completed emulators on psp.
- Make a simple solution to plugging in USB storage and using it on the PSP.
or
- Make a multiplayer homebrew game that is to the equivilant of Heroes of Might and Magic 2.
Now if Realtech VR would take part in this it would rock, I hope they have been noted of it. =D
Do you guys know the Game Maker program that is simply a GUI to make games easily? If someone would create an app like that we would likely see a homebrew games explosion. By the way can I ask a question does this contest include PC utilities for the PSP? Not another Media manager but the likes of a Game Maker that can produce EBP files?
heck, if someone made a version of Game Maker that was for making homebrew games via C or Lua or whatever it is, I would sure as hell pay for it!
Only if it was as easy as GM is. Which being an interpreter of Delphi, im sure its possible to make the same type of PC app for making psp games.
It would have to run under linux tho im guessing, because aparently testing homebrew apps directly in Windows is a bit of a bitch?

I think of compiling fully functionable linux for psp based on DamnSmallLinux
Sad thing is, most of the rmvb videos on the net are usually at a resolution which the PSP would have too much trouble scaling down.
Your better off just re-encoding the rmvb files to mp4 ones.

a password protected recovery eboot so that no one can chnage ur setting or disable prx for ur hidden files, videos etc….
i know theres already apps out for the pandora battery, but is there a program that can be installed to the flash so wen u insert the battery it gives u the option to press either X for service mode or O for normal boot? so u can have pandora battery all the time?
no but if you install timemachine v0.1 start it up select install iploader and pandoras battery will work as a normal battery

Naw that’d suck (jk, read on). How bout VLC on psp. Wouldn’t that be better? But rather then a player like ur suggesting I think, how bout a vlc codec homebrew that has all the cabibiltes of playing the formats but with the native psp player. This of course would have to have subtitle support for mkvs but hey, I’d settle for just avi compressed. Which reminds me. How bout a compresser homebrew. It would compress files stored on the psp based on the preferences set. Like mp3 192kb compress to 128kb. Just thinking. But I belive the end all be all for this contest would be a fully funtioning Firefox 2 or more importantly 3 (not gonna happen since it in beta) browser. i would love to see something like (psp media.prx) an all in one media plugin that when you press a key combo or better still,press the home button there are a list of options as well as EXIT,there would be mp3 playback like music.prx ,also music playback from wifi host,usb host,and best of all pspradio as a standalone option ,so you can play radio and your mp3s all from any location like vsh,game,game150,pops or psp web browser.

What i would like to see would be for the internet browser to be cached to the memory stick and/or an up-to-date adobe flash player.
i was thinking somthing to make the phat psp like the slim. the major difference between the phat and slim is the amount of ram. so if someone could partition the memory stick like 32 mb to act like ram for the psp then the phat will more or less be considered a slim. or kinda like what windows vista has the “ready boost feature”

1 emulator for all roms would be freakin sweet, i find it really annoying trying to remember what keys do what for each emulator. also, maybe a search feature for the ir remote codes, cant seem to find the right codes for my devices. and last but not least……….. an app to use the psp mic as a recorder(pspdictaphone), or pspkaraoke with mic support. (don’t know why it wasnt already supported)

I have ta say a pluggin that alllows an external usb harddrive to be used. u’know , with a tutorial on how to make the cable.That’ed be SWEET. and it would really help to try get rid of all that space that i have on my 2Terabyte external harddrive.

I think a new user interface to replace the PSP’s XMB. Something similar to the 360’s, have the R and L buttons switch between different tab’s. But don’t stop there, make it wifi enabled. So PSP users could actually sign up, have a buddy list, recent games played, etc. This is something I’ve been wanting on the PSP ever since the release. I was thinking about making something like this for the PSP but in Flash. And, well, we all know how well the PSP handles Flash so that didn’t work out well and certainly wouldn’t be a XMB replacement using Flash. Oh well.
If someone makes the said application, I’ll personally paypal them $100 USD. Seriously.
I can provide any art work for the application too. I just lack the PSP programming expertise ;/
Hell i thought of this , but if you remember it took MS almost 3 hella years to perfect it from xbox to 360 and so it would be one hella long project.also dont forget someone would also need to design and make a hella server too to store all that data , needing , yet again more programming.

How about an application that allows you to play your PSP Phat using a TV screen, like what you can do with the Slim.
Show to Sony that you can do what they can’t and let skype run on a PSP phat.
making Skype work on the fat would be a gigantic feat for the homebrew programmers
I’d like to see Linux on the PSP, especially a form of LIRC that could allow my PSP to learn infrared signals instead of having to research/build a separate device for LIRC.
i had the same idea !! a search feature for ir codes, if my universal remote can do it so can the psp, with a little help of course.

ive got qa really good one that would help every one of us.. make the psp able to use the computer as an external hard drive or something. like being able to save, use and and view files.. it would make us not have to buy memory sticks nd waste our money.. the computer can view the psps files, why cant the psp view computer files?
Because that would mean that you could only play your psp when your attached to the computer via a usb cable.and that in turn would defeat the whole purpose of the psp being a handheld that you can take places.
