PSPTube 2008/03/01 Released

greg | February 29, 2008

PSPTube EBOOT Icon
Hey, it’s a leap year — this should be the 2008/02/29 release.

What’s new? The translation says, “strings well, but I do not know if you were to be included, and trying to play a halt to correct defects. (Your Gravitation bugs).” Yeah, whatever that means…

By the sound of things, it would seem SofiyaCat continues correcting bugs that you likely experienced in the past few releases. So update your memory sticks and hope for the best.

Go!Messenger Released in Europe

greg | February 28, 2008

Update: Not from Europe? Do this –

  1. Boot to the custom firmware recovery console (hold R-Trigger when booting)
  2. Browse to Configuration and set “Fake region” to Europe
  3. Back, then Exit
  4. Select the Go!Messenger icon, download and install the client
  5. Connect PSP via USB or use something like PSP Filer
  6. Copy (don’t move) PSP/APP/ULES00856 to PSP/GAME/ULES00856; keep a copy of DATA.DRM in PSP/APP/ULES00856
  7. Optionally reset your region back to the default (using the recovery console)
  8. Launch Go!Messenger from the game menu and sign up

Our European readers should hop on their PSP right about now. Sony Europe has launched their Go!Messenger service allowing voice & video chat over any WiFi network. Install the Go!Messenger client from the XMB and create yourself an account.

Technomike from Europe quotes:

They said it would be today and it is! I waited all night for this and it’s finally here.

Go!Messenger has been released and can be downloaded from the Go!Messenger icon on European PSP’s (both versions of course). It is a separate application from the firmware which is downloaded when you go on the Icon. It is not built into the firmware.

An account at BT.com is required and also a Go!Messenger separate account. Both of which can be registered when you have the application on your PSP.

The application is great! Works well and I have been using it.

Watch DivX with PSPTube!

greg | February 28, 2008

This was just brought to my attention… Whether or not you knew about it — PSPTube is capable of DivX video playback!

It’s simple –

  1. Download PSPTube 2008/02/28 and install it; if you haven’t already
  2. Copy DivX video file(s) to PSP/GAME/PSPTube/favorites; ensure the video file extension ends with .divx
  3. Start PSPTube and cycle to favorites by pressing Select

Again, confirmed working on my Slim. I’ve only tried smaller sized videos — no full length features or anything of that nature. Try it out and let us know your experience below.

PSPTube 2008/02/28 Released *Updated*

greg | February 28, 2008

PSPTube EBOOT Icon
Update: Problems with video playback on the PSP Phat? SofiyaCat has released PSPTube 20080228. I have confirmed this working (with video) on both phat and slim models.

Update: I’ve repackaged the archive to include YouTube support. It’s tested and confirmed working (on my Slim). Sorry about that. Re-download 20080224 again.

Thanks M33 User in the comments.

A new date, a new PSPTube release from developer SofiyaCat. Relax, kick back, and watch YouTube clips direct on the PSP. I should mention other popular video sharing sites are supported too — dailymotion, smilevideo…

Of course you’ll need to be within range of a WiFi spot.

The changelog translation is a bit messy, but here it is:

  • JavaScript can be added at the site.
  • This based on the part of the search for additional specifications Let’s brush up on.
  • Video search specifications are subject to change parts. Please, please.
  • YANTOKA Vu Chu site evaluation.

Become the #1 PSP Hacks Homebrew Idol — of the World!

greg | February 27, 2008

Update: The contest deadline has been extended — please submit final entries by May 31st, 2008. Furthermore, PSP Hacks member, Donkey, has donated his fully hacked 3.90 M33 PSP with carrying case, car charger, and 2GB memory stick. The lucky winner will receive that plus the $500 (CDN) cash prize.

We at PSP Hacks truly enjoy the fine art of homebrew development. Over the years we’ve held several contests allowing authors to showcase and reap the benefits from their hard work.

Now it’s due time for another PSP Hacks homebrew showdown. Unlike previous competitions we let you — the player — be the judge. This time ’round there will only be one homebrew evaluator — that’s me.

All submitted entries will be posted and readily available for download; while other users feedback is certainly appreciated, I’ll be the one responsible for selecting your Global PSP Hacks Homebrew Idol.

Rules:

  1. Create a new homebrew app/game or PRX plugin that will blow mine and everyone else’s face off;
  2. Update your existing homebrew/plugin to feature something new that will blow mine and everyone else’s face off;
  3. Entries must be compatible with custom firmware 3.90 M33-2;
  4. Multiple updates/versions before the deadline (see rule #5) are allowed;
  5. All final entries must be submitted before March 31st May 31st, 2008.

1st place will land you $500 (CDN) cash OR a brand new PSP Slim + games/accessories equaling $500 in value — your pick. All other contestants will receive a complimentary kudos and a make believe participation ribbon.

If interested, send your creation to imgonnawinthis@psp-hacks.com.

Should you have any questions and/or concerns, please leave those below.

PSPMO5 v1.0.1 & PSPZX81 v1.2.0

greg | February 24, 2008

Two Sunday releases from ZX-81… Adding yet another emulator to his PSP porting portfolio with PSPMO5 — a port of Daniel Coulom’s DCMO5 — emulating the Thomson MO5 home computer system. MO5, MO5, MO5!

This marks PSPMO5’s initial release, so there is no changelog. ZX notes, “…work still remains, for tape and disk support, save states, etc…”

Also updated and tagged as the final release is the Sinclair ZX81 emulator — PSPZX81 v1.2.0.

PSPZX81 v1.2.0 changes:

  • New eboot icons based on Raven’s stuff
  • Add several new hotkeys:
    • settings such as fps, render mode can now be directly modified inside the emulator (no need to enter in the settings menu)
    • quick save / quick load current state (no need to enter in the main menu)
  • Default Hotkeys can now be set in the keyboard mapping menu (useful to add hotkeys on existing/previous keyboard files)
  • Add vsync option
  • Can now be compiled for linux (useful for debug)
  • Bug fix in the low battery watchdog

Enjoy!

PSPUAE 0.70 Released: Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator

greg | February 24, 2008

FOL and the PSPUAE team have released version 0.70 of their Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator. Several updates optimizing both speed and memory have been packed into 0.70 — those along side other improvements detailed in the changelog below…

Amiga GUNSHIP

PSPUAE v0.70 changes:

  • Added a lot of Rics FAMEC code and optimizations. (Gave some speed increase)
  • Altered Hsync handler. (Removes slow down when sprites on screen, with CPU = MAX)
  • Altered CPU CYCLE UNIT to 256 (Gave the most speed increase)
  • Altered CHIPSET settings (To fall inline with CPU CYCLE UNIT change, its now a much more finer setting than in previous versions. Giving better results)
  • Added Rics FAMEC Sound code (Still clicks, we know what the problem is, but I need help to solve it)
  • Added Interpolation 4CH Sound under sound menu (This can improve sound slightly)
  • Altered HEAP SIZE for available memory to PSPUAE (This solves all memory problems)
  • Added Rics FAMEC FrameSkip Algorithm (This gives a finer smoother Auto FrameSkip)

My sincerest props to the team for this one.

Project4 Open Beta 3 Released

greg | February 24, 2008

Just when you thought Auraomega was gone; *snap, crackle, pop* — Project4 is back on! The project aiming to serve as a complete XMB replacement is back on track after a devastating loss of source code.

Contrary to a “PSP shell” which runs on top of the XMB, Project4 installs and operates directly from flash memory — replacing the XMB entirely.

Unlike open beta 1 & 2, this installation differs… Please see the always important README.TXT before continuing.

What’s new since Open Beta 2?

  • Added a boot sound with option to turn on/off.
  • Added an optional filebrowser background, perfect for people who find their normal background doesn’t go well in the filebrowser or gets in the way.
  • Added a clock with configurable options
  • Changed the code to load the EBOOT menu when entering a folder with an EBOOT.PBP inside, only applies if using the “Request” option.
  • Allowed the icons to be varying sizes, giving the ability to customize the menu even more than before. Icon sizes are determined during bootup, so no editing in the config required.
  • Moved the selected icon to the centre, instead of the first.
  • When playing music, album art can be showed as long as Folder.jpg is present in the directory.
  • Added M3U playlist support, which works in all directories above or below unlike previous versions.
  • Added the “Low Key Music Player” which is like a very basic version of LightMP3 installed in the flash, when booting up the PSP if you press the left shoulder button it is loaded, and plays music in the file ms0:/PSP/MUSIC/LKMP.m3u. The clock speed is drastically reduced, making this a good option for those who use their PSPs as their main mp3 player.
  • Added some notes saying how to save, and how to temp save the config.
  • Changed the about screen to make it appear neater, and compacted the lists.
  • Centralized the menus (mount, request, extended) which looks neater, also changed the colour scheme for them.
  • Updated the default config written to comply with the updated code.
  • Added a [#] to each of the options that do not yet work, these are mounting of flash3, XMB loading, and resetting the PSP.
  • Added a device mounter that can mount: Flash0:/ (read mode only), Flash1:/, Flash2:/, Disc0:/ (untested but should work), Host0:/ (assuming RemoteJoy or other plugins are loaded
  • A couple bug fixes…

Custom Firmware Extender v2.2 Released *Updated*

greg | February 22, 2008

Update: 2.2 is out…

  • The Time Machine reboot function should now be fixed … stupid error I made. Note that the functions only made for use with NAND firmware and 150_340 one, with the TM files provided in this archive. If you want to use it with another firmware than 150_340, you will have to edit your firmware files manually to add the cfe_vsh.prx and cfe_game.prx plugins (TM/fw/pspbtcnf.txt and TM/fw/pspbtcnf_game.txt).
  • Fixed some little bugs in the music player, and found the reason why it was not working for all the people. If the psp hang while loading the music menu, you should apply the dark_alex 3.71 fatmsmod.prx patch, it should fix all the problem’s.

Cpasjuste has again updated Custom Firmware Extender. Most notably — courtesy of joek2100 — CFE v2.1 adds in game access to your MP3s. Now enjoy your own tracks while doing whatever else on your PSP.

CFE v2.1 changes:

  • Added music playback based on music.prx by joek2100. (only tested under 3.90fw), default combo button for the music menu is NOTE+SQUARE.
  • Changed the way we reboot from one firmware to another firmware with Time Machine, the original configuration file is now backup and restored at each boot.
