PSP Firmware 3.90 Released

Sony has released firmware version 3.90. Those sleek Slim owners now have official Skype support; while us Fat lamers, including myself, only get added support for PLAYSTATION®Network titles. So what, big whoop, wanna fight about it?
You can grab 3.90 from us or via Network Update. You may need to disable “M33 Network Update” if you’re running custom firmware 3.80 M33. That’s located under the recovery console.
Stay tuned for more updates. You know the usual routine — firmware is released, later dumped and decrypted, Skype support ripped out… Yadda, yadda, yadda…

Yeah, 3.80 M33 took about a month, but most of that time was for that NIDs resolver… so it should be smooth sailing from here, right?
Besides, I’m sure we’re all wondering if Sony wised-up and gave us back full ISO speed with the better memory stick driver…
I’m still on 3.40-OE, haven’t had the need to get newer firmware as no game I’ve bothered playing requires higher firmware – I think Sony gave up :D

I agree, I am on 3.52 m33 and I havent bothered upgrading, until sony actually puts something really worthwhile in a firmware update and DAX and company make the good version of it, I’m not gonna bother. I mean skype is all well and good but I don’t use it so it doesnt excite me as much.

i havent had any problem with my psp and its running 3.80m33, not even one! no problems whatsoever, and none of my friends have had problems either, its better than either of those firmwares.

I agree. Installation of custom themes ended in a brick for me. And then recovery menu didn’t work properly…

I’m very happy about Sony releasing Skype on the PSP. Its a very cool feature. Even though I HATE sony. This was a great add to the PSP scene. Now for Skype to be ripped and integrated into the Fat PSP. :]

I just got my firmware yesterday and I don’t give a crap about Skype. The batteries for the psp wont last for 10 minutes calling anyway (or it would be surprising).

shame the games coming out for the psp are complete horse shit, the psp is DEAD. no game developer wants to make decent games cos of how easy it is to pirate in the psp scene.
I think that “Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadows” is a very decent game, but thats just me talking.
And this is coming from a guy who hates two stick input styled games, I would have said FPS but this game is 3rd person.
I tend to play more PSP games than anything else these days personally. And I’m looking forward to God of War – Chains of Olympus far more than anything on any other machine.

As of now, the only benefit I see from the slim PSP is the feature to have video inputs on it. Other than that…I really don’t see much else that’ll make me wanna run out and buy it. I may purchase it though just so I can play my psp on the big screen. Meh…I’ll wait for something greater to come out.
The Slim has far better controls which makes diagonal input on the D-pad easy too. That alone made it worth me buying the Slim rather than the ‘phat’ as it makes certain games like Street Fighter actually playable.

“PLAYSTATION®Network titles”, by this are we talking about multiplayer PS1 games without having to use IR Shell…or does this only mean PS1 games that allowed for multiple PS1 consoles to be networked together?
I do hope that it is indeed multiplayer PS1 games and not console networking.
Such a feature, as well as Skype (which I use as my main method of contacting people) is a pretty nice addition to the PSP. Especially when my flat is sitting on a Wifi point :D

As for PSone multi player. I bet they haven’t even got the answer to that yet. You’d think that they would of since they made PSone support. really as high as the no. went up this is kinda a minor update for the psp. If you have a fat psp then you can’t use it. Even With the flash amount it was a waste of time. Unless You have friends that are that much in sync enough to buy a new psp for this then fine. updated about 4am this morning. love the skype, however i was finally able to gain access to windows xp today since i have vista and used it to install 3.80 m33-5 to my slim, i love it.

I take it that they are still working on it. Or, “Sony announces the Go!Messenger” Only to tease consumers to buy the PSP expecting upgradeables in the near future only to be let done by Sony’s false advertising.
Now, I’m not stating that Sony won’t release it in the near future. When? Who knows. Maybe when they release PSP-3001 with bigger memory. Or, Maybe in the near future of 2009 when and if the Go!Explore(GPS Unit for the US) gets released.

Now, They did announce that they will be releasing the Go!Cam for the US PSP here by the end of 2008. So my guess is that’s when they’ll release the Go!Messenger. But, that’s only a guess and my guess is probably as good as any ones.
