Word that a new PSP Slim motherboard preventing the creation of a Pandora’s battery is among us — the TA-085 v2. That’s not to say an existing Pandora battery won’t work — it still should.
Sony has apparently blocked access to the battery’s eeprom; meaning our [existing] software methods are rendered ineffective. The workaround: use a friend’s PSP or go the hardware route.

I think my friends PSP had one, because I put in my Pandora to install 3.80 M33 on his, and it said the motherboard was TA-???.
try the pandora and telll us all if its a succes and if it doesn’t unbrick/upgrade/dowgrades then we will all know this stup motherboard is gay.
But this does not stop them (pandora’s batt) from working, only from being made, so as long as you can still make a hardware one, there is no problem, and as far as I know you don’t even need to do any soldering to make the HW mod.

I agree, I test out all the games I buy, plus anytime someone buys me a psp game, I always rip it to cso, so I can have a bunch of games with me and dont have to bring the extra UMDs. DAX is awesome, and quite frankly if anyone doesnt think so, they shouldn’t even be here. and btw no this doesnt mean the new mobo is unhackable, it just means you wont be able to softmod a batt to make it a pandora with this mobo. it blocks the eeprom(file on the battery itself) from being flashed. but like i said before, if it can be made, it can be broken, just give it some time.

My friend just bought a brand new silver slim psp … the phatty (non pandora) battery would not work in it. However the Pandora battery worked fine and downgraded just fine as well.

I’m sorry, but this means that they REVERSE ENGINEERED the battery eeprom ‘flasher’.
That is illegal and someone with guts should sue them for that.
I have a slim and all homebrew works fine.
Anyway, Sony is great for making the PSP-hardware. It’s only logical that they try to protect their investment by making it harder to play downloaded games. No problems.
But thanks to DarkAlex we can play homebrew, so DAX is great aswell.
Conclusion, Sony and DAX are great, because one without the other would be worthless.

Personally I think Sony should drop all the bullshit and allow modding and hacking. Sure they might lose a few bucks on the homebrew scene, but think logically for a second. Wouldn’t they expand overall unit sales? I know for a fact that PSP is hands down the best handheld made, and we all know why. Suffice it to say, if they actually embraced this issue rather than fight against it, they could stand to make more.
A good analogy of this would be in it’s actual abilities. If you do what I do you like to research what you’re buying right? I mean, my money is limited so I can’t just run out and blow a grip on some mysterious product. By unlocking all these features they could easily call them “features” and list them on the package.
How many of us would blow a load seeing,
“All new key features: New Ability to play PSX games on your PSP, New Custom Firmwares unlocking the full potential of the PSP”
I think it would be much smarter, especially considering there’s really not a damn thing they can do to stop hacking and customizing. Where there’s a will there’s a way. It’s in our nature as humans to fuck with shit til we either break it or modify it….lol. nuff said, hopefully I’ve made my point.
You mean, the PSN store that has been up for months now, full of PSX titles that are playable on the PSP? The only thing “custom” about the DAX cfw’s are unsigned code and recovery options. If anything, they should just add recovery options modeled after DAX’s work. It’s already been said, those features would cost a pretty penny if they were to make it into production.

On a side note, what they’ve already done to the PSP Slim is almost unforgivable. They’ve made the analog stick one solid piece, so you can no longer buy replacements for it. This is usually a minor issue, but since the Slim’s accessories such as cases and whatnot aren’t in serious demand yet, we Slim owners have to either buy older case styles or wait it out. I WOULD have been able to purchase Naki’s Swing Case, BUT the faceplate was so thick the analog was burried rendering the PSP unplayable in it’s case, which is what it was designed for.
A minor disappointment, but one none the less.
way to go sony, keep trying to take away 1 of the reason to own a psp, if it wasnt for CFW i wouldve never even bothered to own a freakin handheld. tsk!
