PSP Custom Firmware 3.80 M33 Released! *Updated*

Update: Dark_AleX has quickly corrected a few issues; thus releasing 3.80 M33-2!
- Function scePowerGetClockFrequency / scePowerGetClockFrequencyInt was not resolved properly due to confusion between two nids applying to the same function. Fixed, this update is necessary for plugins and kernel homebrew reporting PSP CPU speed.
- PSX EBOOT.PBP that have an icon of 80×80 pixels will not be replaced by Dracula icon in savedata.
None of this “it’s coming soon” or he said she said nonsense… Just a straight up release from the undisputed PSP hacker who sports an “S” on his chest — Dark_AleX. Prior to installing you’ll need your PSP running CFW 3.52 M33-3 or higher. Plans for a Pandora Battery installation will be released in the future.
Installation:
- Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the 3.80 Sony update below, rename to 380.PBP, and put it in same folder.
- Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the PSP pressing X or O, do it.
3.80 M33 Changes:
- HEN core: user mode can load now signchecked files from flash.
- recovery: flash1 format will create flash1 directories after format. This could fix some flash1 issues with the previous versions.
- Network update from dark-alex.org page. By default is enabled. You can turn it off in recovery (when off, network update will download sony updates as usual).
- Nids resolver for various kernel libraries.
Users should note: “…popsloader plugin from 3.71 will not work in 3.80 M33 due to its system dependency. A new one will be rewritten for 3.80 M33.”

#1 This is not change the requirements necessary to install custom firmware. If you’re on official firmware above 3.50 it’s still going to be pandora’s battery or nothing to get the job done.
#2 The 1.50 kernel addition doesn’t function on 3.80 m33. You’ll have to wait for it to be updated.

PS1 games work fine. You just can’t load an earlier firmware’s version of pops.

As I don’t personally own a PS3 I can’t speak from first hand experience, but it -should- work with no issues or playing about.
Remote play works, but has the same issues as original. i.e. if you turn PS3 off with the PSP you won’t be able to turn back on using the internet option only locally.

I cant believe the noobs here, some are saying finally just because the custom firmware taken so long to come out, hey it was even longer for custom firmwares and devhook to get updates normally, so dark alex is the greatest to make custom firmwares so quickly…. Also popsloader plugin not working, are you guys dumb, it doesnt mean ps1 games doesnt work, it means the plugin wont work, seesh so there are noobs here who think dark alex has to meet a deadline with releasing his work, for free mind you, well except for donations and he has a life too… and there are people who cant read too

Why the fuck did the homebrew guys skip on 3.73? I’m on 3.72 and cant update to 3.73 m33 cuz they decided to skip it! That sucks for us guys on 3.72. Now they are gonna hav to doubble back and create a 3.73 m33 and/or a downgrader for us. Way to be bumbasses! How hard would it have ben to include the kernel patch or a prx module? He was talking about CFW, same as you. If you’re on OFW why are you looking at CFW? And indeed no one “downgrades” unless they only have access to the official FW. Otherwise you would be using pandora…
You surely doesn’t know much about how the OFW/CFW thing works, do you?
Any official firmware above 3.51 can NOT be downgraded or updated into custom firmware without the use of the pandora’s battery.
In other words, you hadn’t been able to upgrade from 3.72 official firmware to 3.73 M33 anyway, so stop complaining about stuff you do not know about.

I have 2 fat PSPs, both on M33 3.71-4. One fails to update:

put it in 150 folder and click in on the psp then click x=analyze keys read the instruction on the psp it say which mother board u got and click the mother board u have then click x after that do the same but it will give u and option to un patch it click it then just upgrade

Explanation of icon issue:
In 3.80 pops, Sony has introduced a bug that causes a crash when the icon of the pbp is not 80×80,
like those of psstore. To resolve the issue, M33 was replacing the icon in ram by the one with Dracuala image,
what caused the side effect of ps1 save games having Dracula icon.
Now the behaviour in 3.80 M33-2 is to replace the icon in ram only if the one in the file is not 80×80.

first i updated my phat, it worked great. when i updated my slim it said it was complete, i pressed x so it can restart but it didnt, so i did it manually and bricked it lol. ill try again

(idk how the hel that happened) If i put da batery into my phat, the green LED turmns on and aboout 2 seconds later it turns off. I cant even charge my psp with da batery in it. (I made the battery in my hacked psp slim using hellcats pandora thing.) If u camn tell me how to fix this plz te;ll me if not watever… :(

I think D_A may have caused himself some grief by using the network update feature. He will now have to make every future firmware able to be upgraded directly from 3.80 M33 in order for it to remain universally useable.
Given recent history in CFW installment requirements, this may end up being a bigger setback in the long run than the immediate convenience it gives us now.
Imagine if you don’t upgrade for many months. 4.03 M33 is out, but you’re still on 3.80 M33. You go to the network update icon, it automatically downloads the newest CFW update, but it requires 3.92 M33-3 or higher to install.
I know this scenario is unlikely to happen for an experienced user who keeps up with CFWs, but as these forums constantly remind us, there are a lot of n00bs with hacked PSPs.
I also predict Sony is going to start releasing separate OFWs for phattys and slims (given recent confirmation on Skype usability, I think this is more foresight than prediction). Will the Network Update icon on CFWs be able to discern between the two?
I think it’s an amazing feature, and I’m grateful for it, but the pessimist in me sees it as being very short lived.
Update up to current with a fucking downloaded eboot to catch up first dipshit.
IE download the latest then the next time you can update thru xmb.
And if you’re not current, just download it from elsewhere.

Once the popsloader plugin is released for 3.80, just go back to using 3.52’s pops.
FF IX has worked perfectly for me throughout all the firmwares, though. Not sure what the problem may be.
I think he didn’t have the error fixed on purpose so we can test out the Network Update lol and it works even better that the old lame sony one. i wonder if we can download the 1.50 addon from there. Thankz DAX cand wait for the new unbrickers and popsloader

i installed this firmware. after that I try to connect it to my PS3 but it didn’t work unless I try PSP connect PS3 directly. I want PSP through internet connect PS3 …so has anybody come across this problem as well??

Customer icons work on OFWs now, so yes.
I haven’t tried any gameboots since 3.10 OE, so I don’t know about that one. Check the forums here.
Thanks i know that certain gameboots worked on 3.52 but im pretty sure they had to be converted.
I put my iso and cso games in the iso folder but when I try to run them the psp says that the game could not be stared. Does anybody know what to do?(The game were working in 3.52m33-4)

3.80 M33 is good because of the features but it still isn’t ready and so many people rushed him and we didn’t get the best so i am a little pissed off at the people that couldn’t wait and now I have to Wait until the firmware gets better but i’m keeping it because i am a DAX Fan.(Keep it up DAX)

Anyone have any idea why suddenly after the update nothing would show up on my memory card under Games? It just tells me “There are no games” Even tho there are 7 games in the ISO directory and the 3.80 m33-2 update in the psp\game directory?
Nevermind, just had to format my memory stick and it fixed it.

I have a problem with the new cf, i updated and it all seem fine, but then i tried to update to 3.80 m33-2 and i have a big surprise, in the game-memory stick folder i don’t have any of my homebrew or my games. I updated from a 3.71 m33-4 and the only explanation i can find is my ms size, 8gb, should the ms be the problem?? Please someone help me

if its a semi brick goto recovery menu and fix it from a backup or downgrade back to 1.50

I was on 3.73 HX… worked fine for me. Oh, I have a Slim. My buddy has the original PSP… he had 3.73 HX as well, and had no issues. Double check everything and try it again. Good luck.

why is everyone so mental about cfw releases i was more than happy with 3.40cfw untill i actualy needed to upgrade as i wanted to use music prx when running homebru so had to go to 3.52.
since that i would only be interested in 3.80 for the online radio while browsing the net on psp,but is it really that great that we all MUST upgrade then complain about problems that are aparent on all cfw releases ?
we have psptube and pspradio already,sony are giving us alot of crap and not a real reason to upgrade the firmware so fast so why do it ,and yeh i understand pops compatibility will be better as well as in some cases some minor amount of new psp games require 3.80 to run,but we all know how crap psp games have become latly and they are crap becase of cfw in the first place.

i upgraded ,and well dont like it one bit ,.it has quite bad slowdown on the vsh ,especialy when browsing/changing pics .. music prx doesnt work, and the internet radio is actuly crap and very slow, also confusing .. best with pspradio ,much better.

aparently the slowdown is caused by 380 cfw memory card driver ,tho some say its the sandisc memory card to fault ,and that maybe even installing 380 can damage the memory card.formatting the card doesnt fix the problem
to anyone out there in the know … is it possible to downgrade 3.80 m33-2 back to 150 or later cfw like 3.40 or 3.52 without the need for a pandora battery (hardware) ..

Not reliably. I’ve tried using recovery to get back to 1.50 and caused a nice brick more than once. Pandora saved me that time. To be honest, it’s that easy to soft mod a battery when you on CFWs anyway. You can easily revert it back afterwards if you want, or use the multi IPL loader and keep it pandorized all the time.
Bueno tiene unos para d errores bueno yo soy fanatico de los juegos de PSone osea eso es lo que uso mas y tiene par de erroros con esos juego como que se le ba el sonido algo que no pasaba con 3.71 M33. Tambien algunos emuladores no corren pero lo que beo ya resolvieron eso jajaja. Bueno mi opinion es que yo me quedo por un tiempo con el 3.71 M33 pq es mejor emulando los juegos de PSone. Pero no estoy disiendo que el 3.80 M33 no es bueno es super pero tiene par de errores algunos son os que mensione. Espero que Dark los arregle lo mas pronto posible. Y tambien espero que alguien pueda leerlo pero don por no escribir en ingles es que no es muy bueno mi ingles.

Upgrade to 3.71-m33 and then to 3.80-m33. Just follow instructions with the readme files provided.
Yep there is a slight lag when loading games off the MS. I’ve got to say though, that the network updater is excellent work.

for some reason the recovery menu doesnt recover back to 1.50 so its either this or pandora but i dont have an extra psp on hand ..

Oh dear I think I bricked my phat PSP…
I went from M33 3.71 to M33 3.80 using the manual method (official eboot to 380.pbp into UPDATE folder),
- launched the updater
- the updater did it’s pre-update checks
- I accepted the update
- it launches the Sony like update page
- it updates the PSP
- it ask to shut down for reset
- I press O, the screen goes blank for 5 minutes.
- then dies…
I’ve flick the power switch and only the green Power light works; no MS orange light, no LCD backlight, no UMD wind up; no chance of recovery menu. Bloody Brick.

Try pushing the brightness button a couple of times. When I upgraded/downgraded my fat I would also get a black screen and by accident found out that it would turn back on when I hit the brightness button. Don’t know why.
iv made a pandora this morning and im gonna put it back to 150 then onto 303 as it was my fav cfw .. now that i have made the pandora (softmod) will it be safe to use on 380 ..
ok ,used the pandora and now on 150,and now installing 303oe’c cfw ..my advice to everyone would be get a pandora made ,its a life saver and stay away from 380 ,its really quite bad.

Hello all need a little help. I dupdated my PSP slim from 3.71 M33-4 to 3.80 M33 using the process labeled above and now none of my ISOs show up I suspected that i had accidentally updated to 3.8 standard but when i check the system info it says 3.8 M33. I tried putting the 1.5 kernal addon into the PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder but when i go into the memory stick on XMB it says there are no games. So is there a step im missing or am i need of a pandora fix?
