Bluetooth PSP Headset Mod

greg | January 14, 2008

Presenting N3M3515 aka 51N15T3R aka Shane-O-Mak’s Bluetooth headset mod for the PSP. And for the record, it works on the PS2 as well.

Requirements:

  • PlayStation Portable w/ original remote
  • USB Box from PS2 Headset (Socom one works)
  • Cardo BTA II Bluetooth Adapter
  • 2.5mm Stereo (3 conductor) plug
  • A Bluetooth headset
PSP Bluetooth Headset Mod

With this mod I’m able to voice chat wirelessly on PSP games like the SOCOM FTB franchise using my Bluetooth headset. In addition to working with the PSP I can also use the same Bluetooth headset to voice chat wirelessly on any PS2. In case you didn’t know if you try to play say SOCOM: Combined Assault (a PS2 game) on the PS3 without this mod you cannot use a Bluetooth headset because the PS2 game is not coded to take advantage of the PS3’s Bluetooth functionality, but with this now you can!

Step-by-step instructions are ahead… Follow the source.

I really think I should get at least some of the credit for this…after all, I had this idea months ago and posted it in the official Playstation forums, he just installed a female jack, I hardwired. Mine looks much nicer anyways (cleaner) here’s the page http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1576039

TALONTSx I never saw your mod till now and it does look nice, but that’s just for PS2. Anyway it’s not about credit I just wanted to share with others what could be done. To mexmxc3 yes you can use this for PSP skype.

good idea, looks unusable, the point of a bluetooth headset is so that you can have handsfree convieniently, a mess of cords and boxes defeats the purpose.

This adapter lets you have hands free. It’s not my fault Sony was too stupid to include built in Bluetooth. Let me know if you find a way to use a headset without the PSP’s wired remote, because you can’t!

Yeah, Talontsx is right his looks way better, looks like he put more work into his, i still dont get how you turn a headphone jack into a bluetooth transmitter, all i see is a usb with bluetooth… some one explain

N3M3515, some credit would be nice though, afterall, couldn’t you just use the CARDO adapter alone for the PSP. Your mod just makes it compatiable w/ the PS2 (the reason for my mod). Internal Bluetooth in the PSP would be something more of an interest to me…but hey, I won’t knock you for your efforts. Maybe next time we’ll work together on this.

If I would have known about your mod I would have said inspired by TALONTSx’s mod over on the Playstation forums. But yes as you said you don’t have to use the Cardo BTA II, it’s just what I had laying around. Yeah an internal BT adapter for the PSP does seem possible, there should be enough room inside. I was just looking to build something quick and external so it could easily be removed and connected to the PSP or PS2 quickly.

Or you could just buy the psp bluetooth adapter from dealextreme.com:

youv oviously not used these kinds of psp attatchments.

Iv gone through 3 differnet kinds, all were fm transmiters, and they all had negative results on my psp / its own headphone jack.

As far as I know Nico Naus the adapter in your link only transmits audio from the device to another. I don’t think it has a mic input.

LOL, why do you call yourself Shane-O-Mak? Is your name Shane McMahon? Just thought it was funny.

Maybe because it’s the nickname my friends gave me and I felt like using it. Why do you have the # 316 at the end of your name? Do is your name Stone Cold Steve Austin?
