Details on PS3 Blu-ray to PSP Transfer

Posted by greg

Details concerning Blu-ray PS3 to PSP emerge from Sony’s booth at CES 2008. Unfortunately there are no videos demonstrating the process (yet); however, some pictures and details have been released:

Godzilla Blu-ray PSP Transfer
  • the PSP transfer or transcoded version of the film is encoded using H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
  • certain Blu-ray 2.0 discs, on the disc itself, may include the lower-resolution version; that’s the one ready for transfer
  • copies from PS3 to PSP over USB

So I’m wondering, you think Wi-Fi speed limitations create difficulty for Remote Play playback, or what’s the deal? There is no mention whether or not that will be possible. Also — on-the-fly transcoding using our current Blu-ray discs — that’s unlikely, by the sounds of it.

Please, behave… Most Spanish people doesn’t speak English at all or not good English. “Being Spanish” is not an excuse for not speaking English, but it is how things currently are. Anyway, alienware has expressed very well his idea. PD: I’m Spanish too.

Spanish. That means he’s from or in Spain, thats more than excuse for him not to know how to type it well. Spanish is the 2cnd most used language.

Anyway at least the Blue ray version of the movie will save us time by not converting and it will just give piracy a quicker way to bring movies out for psp on download sites.

If counting first and second language, English is the most spoken language on earth… With Mandarin being second.

that’s retarded… we all know they are speaking about an international level. besides, even you americans have bad spelling skills. i think we may not have your vocabulary/lexic level, but when it comes to ortography we tend to be more careful than you guys. no offense, just some facts.

Let’s see…. you start a sentence with an uncapitalized “oh”, then follow this up with “your” instead of “you’re” Well done in criticizing another’s use of the English language.

I assure the OP it has nothing to do with speed limitations of Wi-Fi as ive hacked blu-ray and have back-ups on an external drive connected to my ps3, and when i do remote play, it works just fine. This is all just an Anti-Piracy measure.

Yeah, well USB read speeds are much faster than Blu-ray disc read speeds.

are you stupid, USB transfers at a crazy rate, but it’s extremely unstable so it mostly only transfers at about 30 MB/s. Blu-ray is so much faster. Speeds at 500 MB/s and above

that is the stupidest assumption to think that. This is just a cool feature that sony is offering to psp users. this isn’t goint to stop riping of movies at all. dumb spanish prick.

i thought for a short time that they could put the psp movie on it too but didnt believe it really. i think though that its the best way and maybe the fastest to get the movie on psp. just stupid that you have to have a big mem stick

The PS3 has a pretty good CPU, you know… So “on-the-fly transcoding” SHOULD be possible.

To convert a film on the fly? Jesus Friggin Christ my 8 Core Mac Pro can’t encode a H.264 video that fast how is a little 3ghz PPC system going to do it?

    Comment by oooooo
    2008-01-11 09:34:31

The Ps3 could do the transcoding like it does with Remote Play games. I think it could convert to MPEG4 at PSP Resolution in real time. E.g as movie plays.

Well, as a first language, English is 3rd most spoken… However, as a first and second language English is most spoken…

but as far as I understand it… English is not an easy language to learn… its quite different from a lot of others…

…and people with English as their first language being most likely to be the most ignorant and least likely to have the brains to learn a second language themselves…

What’s the point in touting “Blu-ray” at all? The resolution is too tiny to even notice. Movies I encode myself at 400 kbps look just fine.

    Im certaint this will involve a “Tokening” system exclusive to each psp, however it won’t take long for the good ‘ol boys at _ _ _._ _ to crack it. (If there is a tokening system) {which there will be}

I don’t think that they are actually “on-the-fly” transfers. It is most likely transcoded on the HDD, then transfered to the memory stick.

Why this is sony trying to Push Blu Ray. Its transcoded to a lower resolution so why not let us RIP D with PS3 also!

Infact………….i heard of a “Possible” divx transcoder being included in a future PS3 firmware so people can record TV from the new TV thingy. Wouldent it be nice to get a double surprise:
1)PS3 Divx/MPEG4 transcoder for DVD and BluRay
2)PSP Divx compatability for the transcoded video.

Doubt it would happen but its nice to dream!!
