Interesting things are a brewin’ for the ol’ PSP this year… For those not following CES, here are some of the highlights:
- Certain [future] Blu-ray movie releases will pack a “lower-resolution version of the film optimized for PSP.” It’s mentioned the movie would be transferred to the PSP’s memory stick. I’m curious to whether or not they’re Remote Play ready? No word on that, yet. But probably not.
- Sony has confirmed a GPS receiver and camera peripheral for North Americans; those are coming, “around the end of the year.”
- SCEA reps have also revealed a first-party keyboard for the hand-held; that’s to be released mid-2009.
- And we have a PSP Skype demonstration –

Sony never quits…. lol. Mid 2009?!! omg.. they will have a psp 2 by then knowing how sony wants to prevent hackers. I love the keyboard idea tho. Maybe sony is finally doing something right :p

Sooooo, Sony says the the Skype functionality will only be available on the slim, and yet we see it here already working on the phat. What’s up with that? I’d be really annoyed, if I were planning on using Skype…but the new SIP client? That ROCKS. I love to see homebrew besting Sony yet again.
i’m not quite sure whether you are referring to the homebrew app by Team Noobz or the demonstration, while the homebrew is indeed running on the phat, the demonstration is showing a psp slim (notice the location of the slot where the microphone is plugged in)
Lol lucky for some.. such as me who owns both slim and paht ;] Skype will be amazing for the psp, and yes this is just the beginning of great things for the psp..
so if i wana use my skype on the psp i gotta get a thin…that sucks ass

w/e the homebrew community already has furibuck(i believe that is its name), i know that it is only in the beta, but by the time that sony releases skype, furibuck will rock its world.
to be honest i thing us Phatty owners are gonna get a better skype type homebrew……once its released they are going to study and make it better then pass it down to all PSP users….i am pretty sure they can make up for the memory or ram the olders psp dont have like it was stated b4 SIP is now semi working on phatties

enable cookies in your browser. The ad should only appear once per IP. It uses a cookie to register the session. does that help?
OK… useing the PSP as a phone… cool and all… but as for the ‘gaming’ community…
Well… I must say, if theres any way in hell that this would be able to run WILE playing games… now that would be awesome! But I highly doubt that happening…
Plus… Cell phones work of Satellites and can be used in many places… however, Skype would need wifi access would it not? which, although does allow for some freedom… is still very limited…
Still.. GPS and the Camera are good to hear. Same with the Blu Ray movies (Man… PSP2 should come with a MiniBluRay Drive… but.. GODDAMN that would be expensive XD)
you retard!!! cell phones don’t work on satellites, they work on radio waves, satellite phones work by use of satellite transponder, and are very very expensive
his argument still stands tho…using the psp as voip on skype requires wifi while the cell does not, however, for long distance and those that use skype for free calls it’s a nice feature
Not sure why a mini-blu ray would be that expensive….now with the PS3 (albeit cheaper hardware) is in the $400 dollar range, a couple of years from now it is feasable to think that it will be incorprated in the next portable. Some games are already maxing out the 1.8gb limit…lol, Nintendo DS wouldnt honestly know what to do with a Gig memchip, mabye create some REALLY long game…like 1000 hours or something. Oblivion anyone? Besides, if you think about it, the PSP is the only system to use UMD’s… why not BMD in the futute that is backward compatable with UMDs… that is very pluasable. A little disturbed about stuff for the original being released late into 2009…. mabye sony will try to extend the PSP’s life as long as possible. I was hoping for PSP2 in the near future. But the camera accessory will Def sell out… i bought one from Japan 6 months ago, and everybody I show wishes they had one. Mabye more mega-pixels? Na, Sony is pretty inovative…but not that inovative. Oh, you hear about the rumors for the Blu-Ray enabled Xbox…lol, behind the curve they are!

I’ve read this already over on PSP.IGN.COM. As for the blueray You’ll need a PS3 to transcode it to your psp. Limeted time use encryption will probably be used for that. Skype will be released on the next firnmware update. 2 Weeks from now. As for the Full version Homebrew coming out before they(Sony) do. Is yet to be seen. About f*’ing time on the camera and gps. To bad the f*’ers aint supporting the fat.

At least they didnt drop game support…besides the PSP camera works on the Phat system. There are worse things then the PSP…think the Sega Cd…i have one and think its great, but add on and games only available for it, plus 32x…well, Sony is doing the best they can with old hardware…they couldnt think that far in advance when it launched. Pit the DS vrs PSP, even the old system, and its light years ahead in technology. Remember the gameboy camera… thats anchient almost unusable history.

This multi-tier approach to what should be single platforms really doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not terribly interested in Skype, but given that I was an early adopter of the Psp (Japanese import), it annoys me more than a tad. Props to the homebrew community for countering it.
As for Sony generally, I bought an Xbox 360 recently instead of the PS3, as I promised I would do because of their past screw-ups. Not particularly fond of the multi-tier approach there, but at least you know your options before you buy, and I have a wide range of good games. Phew, didn’t want another PSP situation where I haven’t found a game to like in about a year (minus “Silent Hill: Origins”). I was actually hoping BluRay would take a hammering on the HD front, but alas. I dread to think where the PS3 would be without it…
PS3 will be where it is now, even with or without Bluray. And sorry to mention this, but I already saw Blu-ray winning from the start. Americans just wanna be special than any other country in the world. Only place that sold HD-DVD really well was USA.
I live in Australia, and ive travelled quite alot these few years. And Most asian countries, and alot of the european ones, i always see Blu-ray being stocked ALOT more than the HD-dvd. Even on display they display Bluray not HD-dvd. And trust me its not that HD-DVD sells so well that its not on the shelves.
Even in Australia its even worse, all the top level franchises like Jb-Hi-Fi who specialise in Music and Movies dont stock HD-DVD. They only stock Bluray. And NO its not cuz they sell so fast that you cannot get it, its just they do not want to stock it, you can get them to order if you really want.
If we were shown World wide statistics about Bluray and HD-DVD then you’d clearly see that Bluray would have won extremely easy. Except almost every single report about HD-DVD matching Blu-ray’s sales are only statistics within America. Very Bias like all statistics are.
There is ALOT of nice games that im waiting for which is comming out this year.
I have to admit yes there isnt many nice games on PS3 as of yet. However thats how Playstation works though….
I remember PS2 took awhile for it to start launching awesome games…. Just give the PS3 a while to warm up and start popping out nice games.
There is plenty of nice games currently on the PS3 though which i enjoyed playing ie.
Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword (although was short but very fun), Resistance, Folklore and Heaps of other cool small addictive games that you can buy off PSN, such as Super Stardust and Blast Factor.
Ya cant really compare Xbox360 line of games to PS3 though. I dont see why people try to do that, and try to make it a valid argument…. Its like comparing Oranges and Apples.
Xbox360 has been released alot longer than PS3 has. Therefore i’d expect it to have good games already out for it… or else nobody would buy it. Lol
If it was a reversed situation where PS3 game out alot longer than Xbox360, then i’d see ppl doing exactly the same thing, whining about Xbox360 dont have enough games!

um, no eboot for a phone, need m33 version of that skype, if i can recall shype was made for the computer to phone people auround the word, for like 0.02 euros an mintes

Really I feel bad for dax he will probally end up making the new firmware back to back unless hx does it. What i would really like is a built-in homebrew of skype added by dax so I can use it.
