Skype Coming to the PSP!

Apparently Sony has plans to announce upcoming Skype compatibility for the PSP during CES this year. The company hasn’t issued an official press release yet; however, Sony does in fact mention a Skype client on its CES 2008 promo site. And that seems legit enough for me.
To quote:
Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system.
The show begins January 7th and lasts till the 10th. So stay tuned!

in the topmenu_icon. for any of you that know anything about the actually flash0 files. the topmenu icon shows all icons in the xmb menu.
WELL sony added a skype icon either in the 3.52 firmware or the 3.71 firmware.
and that was months ago. for this to be news now is pathetic.

Hey dumbass Sony will make money because Skype will encourage people to buy PSP’s thus giving money to Sony. Just as Divx is free to use on computers, it’s free to the PS3. Basically it’s another bullet point. Just one more thing the PSP can offer.

Anyway, Skype is an instant messaging and vocal communication system. It allows free PC-to-PC (Or in this case, PC-to-PSP or PSP-to-PSP or PSP-to-PC…) calling through TCP/IP. They also have a paid account level for Skype, which allows you to either pay so much for unlimited, or a minute-based rate, which allows VOIP.
This does NOT mean that the PSP will support the VOIP feature. I don’t see why it won’t, but it isn’t guaranteed.
VOIP aside, Skype is no different than if we were to port MSN to PSP. Videochat, Instant Messaging, so on.
3.6 is slim only. the next update for the phat (and slim also) was 3.7.
3.6 was the slims startoff firmware with a few added features from 3.5
will this be like talking on xbox live? also, one thing sony REALLY needs to do is update the PSP’s flash player.

There are headsets available for the PSP with a microphone built in. Games like Socom support in game voice chat. It plugs into the headphone jack but has an extra piece that extends into the serial port. The PSP does not have an onboard mic, you have to have a headset.

The 2nd gen PSP files were found in older updates, but that didn’t mean your fatty could magically diet into a slim. The icons are just preparation.
Chances are, Sony will require you to download a Skype users license and download it onto your MS. Basically like getting a Skype UMD without the middle man.,

i HATE these ‘vidshadow’ ads that redirect the psp site to that stupid site with the chick in that choppy video going “theres a party over here….and a party over there…and blah blah blah” its like damn stfu already….
and for the record, redirecting traffic to third party ad sites is a bad idea for the world of hackers. the ad company could be a Sony affiliate, capturing IP addresses, cookie data, and other info, of all people trying to get to this site.

The probley will be allowances for all 3 things… the mic attachment coming this month, the PSP camera and the old headset that was available, almost at launch. Using basic software, the web=browser and wifi connection, it probley will be a free service… but it may only connect to other psp’s, in order for it to be free… it may even be a video phone for those lucky enough with a camera… interesting to say the least… lets see the DS do that…touchy boy
DS sucks, PSP for the win! but will you be able to call/text your friends on their regular phone? if so i know it will cost you but will it cost them?
The thing is, why would they need Skype for PSP to PSP? They have their own servers and own network. This is definitely a sign that they want to use the VOIP services Skype offers.
the question is not whether its old news or not. its whether or not firmware will be verified upon SKYPE connection.
if sony start keeping tabs on PSPs that connect, then custom development will take ALOT longer.
