PSP Magical Security Mod

greg | December 4, 2007

Move over Criss Angel, you ain’t got nothin’ on this! l0rdnic0, member of Acidmods, has the mystifying ability to power on/off PSPs by simply waving his hands over top of the device. Allow l0rdnic0 to demonstrate…

Disabling your original PSP on/off/sleep switch, and replacing with this one, you will no doubt fool your siblings, thieves, or whomever else is unable to keep their hands off your stuff.

Details on the mod; visit Acidmods.

Um… Great… Everytime you go through a tunnel or put it in your pocket it turns on and off… Very un practical IMO… Would just be easier to have a PW screen at startup.

LOL it uses a magnet to turn on and off ther is a tiny glass tube inside called a reed switch. if you pass a magnet over a reed switch it actovates. so with out the magnet it won’t turn on or off.

I didn’t investigate it any farther than what was written on psp-hacks.com(this article)… And it stated nothing about magnets… So as far as I was informed this is a stupid idea.
But now that I know theres magnets involved I know the maker is probably a moron! What kinda idiot would mix magnets and computing electronics?!?

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Magnets only really effect CRTs and hard drives, neither of which are part of the PSP (unless you actually bought one of those stupid PSP hard drives).

You’re a fool!!!! The PSP has non shielded speakers built in it, why don’t you google “non shielded speakers” and figure out what that has to do with magnets! Dummy make an educated comment next time.

Hmm, so how exactly do you turn it off? From what I could see all it does is go into sleep mode and wakes back up? Looks pretty cool all the same, though.

hold the magnet there for longer to shut it off

Comment by l0rdnic0

If you want to fully power down the unit you hold the magnet over the reed switch for two seconds, much like holding the factory power button in the up position for two seconds.

2007-12-04 16:55:01

yes it is most likely a reed switch i have wired a few things(pcs, xboxes, tvs) to use them to turn on and off im actually surprised no one has thought of this sooner its relay a common mod on computers

wait. PC and Magnet shouldn’t be all too close.

Comment by l0rdnic0
2007-12-05 10:55:56

Its fine, the PSP does not have a CRT or a hard drive so there is no problem using a magnet to turn on the PSP with a reed switch. Also as posted before the PSP has magnets in the speakers that Sony uses in the PSP and you don’t see any problem there :)
