And here it is! After receiving a positive response from homebrew enthusiasts around the world, Deniska has readied and released Tyrian for the PlayStation Portable.

This is a PSP adoptation of TYRIAN, PC game by Eclipse Productions, published Epic MegaGames. The original game was programmed by Jason Emery, illustrated by Daniel Cook, and its music composed by Alexander Brandon and Andreas Molnar.
This port is based on OpenTyrian project code (http://code.google.com/p/opentyrian/), maintained by mindless2112, syntaxglitch,emacs.hacker, yuriks.br.

Very nice. A little buggy on startup (guess that’s what the alternate eboots r for) but it is everything I hoped it’d be. Very nice and I can’t wait to start upgrading my ship. Thanks for the port dude!
billylee8, you’re a douche. Don’t bother? We’ve all been waiting for this thing with such anticipation! You must be too young to know that greatness that is Tyrian! Daedelus is amazing, I’m sure he’s sorry he doesn’t cater to your specific needs… NOT.
It could use a few fixes though! Save for sure, which he said he’d work on, but also scroll text! I wanna read those data cubes, not just the first page :P

witch EBOOT did you used ?
i used e loader and the same eboot it came with.
It only works on my Phat PSP and not on slim :(
my Phat PSP has no sound lol

Those having problems with sound and video, should try doing following:
1) reset your psp
2) disable plugins as they may compete for memory and other resources
3) try alternative “EBOOTS” compiled with different memory optimization flags
About the bugs.. The idea of most initial releases is to collect that kind of information by exposing the software to wider audience..
For example, I was not aware of the scroll problem with data cubes… ;-)
I have a PSP slim, i’ve tried running it on eloader like it said and it didn’t work, Game could not be started. Any Ideas? <3

Download eLoader (I’ve got v1.000) BECAUSE THIS IS A MUST IF YOU HAVE A SLIM !
It works “perfectly” with sound and everything, but it’s a bit slow with some weapons… Maybe it’s due to sprite complexity. Or maybe I just need to crank up the CPU speed in eLoader… Testing right now and am feelin’ nostalgic. :P

Btw, you need to copy the “TYRIAN” folder in X:/PSP/GAME (or GAME150, GAME352, GAME371… depends on what firmware you have).
I mostly use the GAME folder.
And you can also try different eboots by copy-pasting them. ;)

Get with the times, eloader sux big balls. Slow downs everything! C’mon authors.. GET WITH THE TIMES!

zamg, its a .5 release, chill out. True fans know that there is a detail settings in the pause menu (press select instead of start)

when downloaded, and i have the file in GAME folder, my screen remains black, i can hear it but no see anything…… im working with the fat psp, cfw 3.52….. Anyone got any ideas????

bob, I experience that often too on 3.52. Try using the different eboots until you find one that works for you.
I was wondering, if Deniska still reads this, if it would be possible to map the square button to the rear weapon mode switch when you’re in the menu and looking to buy/upgrade rear weapons. Currently it does not do that.
Also, what’s with the hold switch making it pause/unpause? :P

Who the hell would wanna use the hold switch while playing ? Doesn’t make sense…
Hmm, I’m on the bus, it’s time to get off and switch to another bus. So I put the game on Pause, and to make sure I don’t unpause it by accident, I put the hold switch on. In the process of doing this, the game unpauses, and I die :P Makes plenty of sense to me!

Final! I havent played this game in ages, and I mean ages. Last time I ever played this was back when Windows 95 was still being used. So glad there is a port finally.

very nice port deniska, really what I was hoping for.
do you plan on optimizing speed at all, or will the bulk on your work be focused on squashing bugs? there is limited slowdown in certain areas, though I can’t recall if that’s a fault of the game or not.
very well done either way. cant wait for naming saves as it’s preventing me from playing. also interesting you are having the scroll bug with the data cubes; recent gp2x port is the same way
