Tired of the plain ol’ boring XMB? Sure you can theme it with custom icons and whatnot; but what if you could replace the XMB entirely — with a whole new menu-ing system!? Well, by the looks of it, it is possible and we may see a public release sooner rather than later. Developer Auraomega and djinc present Project 4…
I was also asked to post these quick notes from the dev:
I planned to record the installer installing from scratch, but unfortunately the installer is making an error that I can’t track down, most likely with the firmware patching. This is aimed at all current Custom Firmwares out there, but is highly unlikely to work with 1.00 and 1.50 firmwares. M33 has a few issues, the main one being that NoUMD does not function correctly, and a UMD must be inserted. OE firmwares are fully functioning, and an installer for these versions should be made separately if anyone requests it. This is tested on 3.40OE-A and LE-A, and also on 3.52M33-4, any other versions SHOULD work, but without testing I can’t be sure. This is a Proof of Concept release, and many things such as a full image viewer, music and movie players have been omitted from this build, but rest assured they will appear in the full builds (and possibly the next Open Beta). The possible release date is 24th December - Christmas Eve - assuming that I can fix the installer bug before then, lets call it my Christmas gift to everyone within the PSP Homebrew scene.

This looks cool, but when you go deeper into the menu, like click on game, it looks like the recovery menu.

i agree with kevin if you could make the xmb a lil more stylish it would be perfect

With some work it would be nothing short of interesting. I’ll not say much yet, but I do think this has some nice potential.
Little more work on the GUI and this would be really nice. Perhaps some new vizualizations on the music end, and an open source.
That is awesome! I wonder how dangerous and complicated it will be. :D I cant wait to try it.
it has a simple installer and uninstaller… and all you need is a backup of your flash if something goes wrong

I <3 the idea of a whole new xmb but i gotta agree with some of the other people here, the design you chose kinda did suck.. and I dont like that whole recovery menu selection thing… hopefully you’ll… do something about it besides trying to fix the FW bug between now and xmas :S …. hopefully….. appreciate you takin the time to build this though, ;)
well the themes are completly customizable (icons bg ect) and the font colors can be changed so really you can make it look liek whatever you want

Go ahead then, I’d personally love to see someone else make an XMB replacement, its been attempted in the past but no one has had any success with a public release (although I obviously do not know if anyone has made one for personal use).
If you genuinly think you can do the same/better, I’d like you to upload your work, if on the other hand you are as much of an idoit as a boaster, then you may want to just flame someone else whos not likely to show you up ;)
wow all this hate.. atleast this guy is attempting to release something to the scene. Once that happens, i’m pretty sure folks will be able to mod/change the backgrounds and such as they please. Heck who knows once DA and his crew get hold of the source code for it, what possiblities may come or even Ahman for irShell. Stop hating n keep supporting these guys that ARE contributing to the scene!!!!!
this looks pretty amazzin but it woulld be cool if he could turnout psp into a windows style xxmb or iphone just some ideas
well you can choose where the icons on the screen go so you may be able to make it look windows if you have the right pictures
Probably not for the POC version, its going to take a little work to add an easy way of doing it, and I know my powers of explaination probably are not that great (look at the problems I had getting people to use PSPLock correctly).
I will work on this after the current bugs, but my main work is going on the installer currently.

Good Good job man.ive been waitinf for some1 to come out with somthing like this.What will make it super cool is if u make it like Xbox Media Center,as far as adding all the capabiltiys of that on it. Good Work :)
yo nigga this shit would be cool i read that one guys comment right and like partitioning it to have custom GUI or whatever would be straight like make it where you could like make the whole psp function as it does when its in the browser ………i.e. everything controlled by a mouse with the toggle that would be cool as hell basically what im thinking is this is openeing a whoole new window of possibilities the could in theory turn the psp into a computer i guess…idk where im going with this…..haha

Looks good! i thought the “side xmb” and “apple cor” were priddy full replacements. Side xmb menu-ing system was awesome.
Man this is mad. when i first saw this i couldnt believe it. I bet half the people here who are dissing it dont have any programming experience at all and dont realize the work/effort thats obviously been put into this. They are the reason Fanjita left the scene, you all make me sick at some of the comments made. if you dont like it make your own bloody XMB replacement. Auraomega, djinc, dont listen to any of the haters here and whatever you do PLEASE dont stop work on this. I bet when the first daedalus was released there were people dissing it but look at it now, everyone loves it. Anyways, nice work :)
I always thought that creating custom themes (or ’skinning’) FOR ANYTHING not just the PSP, should have no limits. Creativity doesn’t, and imagination sure as hell doesn’t ! So why did $ony restrict the skinning to just a bunch of stupid icon replacements and a wallpaper ??
Why not let people use their creativity and make new and original menus with sliding icons (for eg.) or fading/burning/exploding/disintegrating icons that pop or fall or liquify when selected (or deselected) ?

Good job he put subtitles on there saying what he was doing as it was so dark I could only just make out it was a PSP he was holding.
Yeah, the camera wasn’t mine, and I have a dark room, plus I was tired (had been trying to fix the installer for 2 hours straight). The subtitles needed to be added for anyone to make any sense what so ever from what I was doing >.>

Ok im dieing for a ps3 Wave on the psp, if they can totally redo the flash they can redo a wave to make it flow like Silk, i would love to have that wave on my psp.

release source when you release the finished product so more devs can use your engine to make their own xmb, kudos to u of corse XD
