the psp station is for emulation of psp games on either umd disk or cd. Its for QA, development purposes. It is legal if ur a development. the only way u can acquire the station is if u go through sony itself

One of these were on ebay some time ago. But ebay pulled the auction as it is illegal to sell these units. Hopefully this one will go all the way till the end but i doubt it.

WHAT A RIPOFF PEOPLE!!! Just for testing purposes WTF is that useful for anyway. Today with irShell play ISO’s of your PC and if you want to watch a DVD on PSP Ill damn create a homebrew app that would play DVD’s to my PSP. I think even VLC media player can do that. And besides is probably worth nothing only geeks and wannabe hackers would buy this just to show off.

It can read UMDs. It’s for movie companies to test their movies on the PSP. It does NOT burn UMDs. A licensed developer with this hardware would be required to send the image to sony for burning and production.

yea I agree perfect for that stuff. and conserve battery. But I cant recall if the dvd drive plays the psp game faster than the umd drive itself/

I still see no use for this. If you have the right apps and stuff for both PC and PSP, you can do the same task via the Memory Stick can’t you?
That’s right. :) You can test ISO backups straight from the ms. I do it (almost) on a daily basis.
Remove the -A from the end of the product ID. i see multiple results….. Some on japanese pages as well.. And not just for this auction either. Browse a bit, I can see specs on one page…
me again i say we make this thing give birth to a newer psp then both the slim and the phat psp and we got ourselves a better product ;)

obviously you can’t read, this doesn’t make umd’s, it lets you use a dvd AS a umd to the psp that is permanently attached to the giant pc tower. It is worthless and Dark Alex would have no use for such obsolete technology.
LOL why buy an UMD filled with homebrew ? That doesn’t make sense… The hombrew apps are constantly being developed. Would you rather buy an UMD with IR Shell 3.7 or would you rather just download IR Shell 3.81 (the latest) and put it on your memory stick ?

I am no expert but i cant see no point why we should buy this. You can’t burn, You are just using that big piece of machine for some kind of drive. What does this machine really do? Can you develop from this machine. Can we do that on a regular pc? What is so special about this?
I think that through IR Shell you can run backups from the PC’s HDD. So that’s right. Basically you can do the same thing with a normal PC. You’ll get ripped off if you pay for this. Well, unless it can actually WRITE UMDs, but that’s uselss too because the PSP can read the backups from the memory stick (on custom firmware).
I guess the only reason why it’s so special is because it’s an official sony UMD testing..doohicky.. By the sounds of it, it’s only for testing only. The only people that would want to buy this is to either show off to all their friends for bragging rights or because they are a sony collector.
And by the looks of things this hardware is stolen maybe from some big company or something.. after all.. the bloke/lass that’s selling it lives in ‘west london’ (sorry to all you readers that come from there, don’t t take offence to this remark)

Than phat box has got an MS-DUO slot, so maybe it could be of some use… the thing ist that we don’t know witch OS it has, so we don’t know if normal apps or compiler will work on it! othersides, you may use it to experiment large homebrew apps! If it’s a testing system, it emulates PSP’s OS as well, right? that means an PSP EMU!! maybe wit 10 times mor power, just perfect to build untill perfection other emus, just like Sega Saturn’s emu for PSP! Maybe it’s not that useless! I gues you can even change the DVD’s drive lenses or the whole thing and get it to burn DVD’s and so, but again, I don’ see any big use for that… LOL… But think, if it has, infact, a PSP OS system, it may be usefull for homebrwe testing issues!

To the average Joe, this seems cool and everything, but would serve no purpose whatsoever. However in the hands of an accomplished PSP Hacker, it may be a useful tool, even with modding capabilities to someone who knows what they’re doing. I would recommend not bidding on this unless you are a serious hacker/developer.

and people with 1500 ebay feedbacks dont go around stealing things.
It was removed at Sonys request. They sent a legal document to ebay stating the sale infringed their copyright. (in other words they dont want you lot to get your hand on it ;) )
doesnt mean whoever he got it from got it the legal way ;)
And developers are not allowed to RE-SALE/give away development kits provided by the console companies at all whatsoever.
thats not necessarily true, just because someone has a large amount of feedback does not mean there warez are not stolen. the simple fact he has such high feedbacks would seem to make it easier for him to sell stolen items since well people wouldn’t suspect they are stolen, i mean you don’t suspect him/her.

I hate to point this out… But what is actually the point of this device… The only obvious advantage I can see is that it allows you to play games from a DVD disc instead of from a UMD… What’s the point when you can just run ISOs off the memory card anyhow? And, this thing is hardly portable, is it!
It seems to me that people were all to willing to spend money of something which wouldn’t actually offer any more real functionality than what custom firmware already offers!
And, you’d most likely have to use the sony official firmware on any bundled PSPs which rather defeats the object of psp hacking anyway!

I have a wii, got it for my birthday.
It’s not as bad as you say it is. Although I do complain about the graphics. The games coming out for it soon are going to be great, but since nintendo and its sub-manufacturers are money-hogs they wanted to release all the crap games first to get some $$

1) The DTP-L1500 DOES have a DVD reader! it is used to test an UDM image BEFORE delidering it to the replicators. Hence PhantomFreak was right when he referred to a DVD player.
2) Such a device is completely USELESS without the required software which is licensed on a per firm basis.
Authoring houses need to test their products several times before delivering the final product.
The PSP you see on picture is just an empty box with an LCD display, buttons and a cable coming out from where usually is the UMD reader. That cable is then connected to a DTP port.
You need the authoring package to create an UMD image that is then burned on a standard DVD-R to be tested. The UMD reader has been moved to the central unit, since the “dummy” PSP does not have it.
On a final note, there is no proof that the good has been stolen at all. It is sure, instead, that someone has infriged the Non Disclosure Agreement they have signed with Sony when they bought the equipment.
End of the story.
