PReSS v0.1 — RSS Reader for the PSP
greg | November 10, 2007
The Underminer, who you may recognize from such homebrew releases as Galactic Breakout, has unveiled something new for the hand held — Portable RSS, or better known as, PReSS.
I share the Underminer’s disappointment with Sony’s poor RSS integration from firmware 2.60 onward. This is where PReSS comes in & takes over. PReSS is a full-fledged RSS reader compatible with all RSS versions; Atom and RDF formats not supported, not yet anyway.

PReSS v0.1 feature list:
- Supports GIF, PNG and JPEG images
- Compatible with all RSS versions (but not Atom or RDF)
- Supports WEP WiFi connections (other encryptions untested)
- Resizes images to fit the window
- Has it’s own built in catalogue, filled with user submitted feed (submit feeds in the ‘Suggest feeds’ section of the website)
- Fully skinnable
- Topic expiring. With the more popular feeds; manually deleting topics becomes a tiring business.
- Set an expiration time and type (either days or max amount of topics)
Note: only use the “Home” button to exit in the event of a crash; changes won’t be saved. Otherwise, use “Select” to exit gracefully.

wat does this do
Wow. Nice one. Finaly you can actually have some use for rss to the PSP system. Great Work..
OMFG!!! You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this thing!!! I was so sad I couldn’t have text RSS feeds on my PSP :(
BUT NOW I CAN :D
Thank you thank you thank you. You rox man I’d give you anal pleasure… but I’ll pass…
WTF? Anal pleasure? This fag is for real… FU Kilogold….. you nasty 40 year old perv.
ewwww! How about I give you anal pleasure with a slice of my shank??? hmmm…. get the fuck out of here pedo….
come on. keep it clean and, for everyone’s sake, heterosexual, please. this site is about video games, not anal pleasure.
Definitley a noob question but what is rss and what does it do?
awesone release. all hail!
cant get this to work on a psp slim
is it compatable with all cfws? if not could someone tell me what versions it does support?
It supports CFW with 1.50 kernal, that’s all ;)
The app was made for firmware version 1.00 This means that the official 1.00 firmware is supported (for the absolute die-hards) and CFW. I think M33 also works, with the 1.50 kernel plug-in. Note that the official 1.50 is not supported! If there is demand; I could release a 1.50 compatible version
When I said ‘CFW’ I meant Dark Alex’s OE
please release a 1.5 version
One can better be shown what RSS is than told. Look at this: http://feeds.engadget.com/weblogsinc/engadget
(with Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, or safari)
Sadly; PSP-hacks.com only provides a very limited rss feed with only the headlines and the first line of the article (yet; rss was designed for this)
Well actually the RSS from PSP-Hacks is set to be only first few lines. Greg can change it in the Wordpress settings. I know this because I have used Wordpress before.
The dude in the picture freaks me out… Every time I check psp-hacks I see that picture and it’s like “wtf” :P
lol yeah me too
^^ greg must like it.
why is so many software for the psp still compiled for fw1.00 or fw1.50?
- it’s outdated
- it’s not working on psp slim
- it’s not working with wpa encryption
the only thing that might be a reason is that they run in kernel mode. but most software doesn’t need kernel mode.
please give us a 3.xx version soon…
agreed!
PReSS uses luaplayer mod 4.1 by cools; wich is not available for 3.xx (slim) ,although i didn’t ask if he could make one.
The next luaplayer, 0.21 by IWN is scheduled for X-mas and promises to kick ass, compiled for 3.xx by default. When it comes out; press will be way faster, and probably support WPA + more stable connections.
\o/
that means this years christmas will rock :D
what, nobody here ever used WEBNAB for psp?
It’s been my rss reader on PSP for like a year.
this does look like it’ll kick it up a notch though with photo support ‘n all.
