PICOOZ IR v3 Beta Released

greg | November 6, 2007

Talk about an awesome hack job; this makes me wanna run out and buy an infrared Picooz and/or Fairy helicopter.

From French developer PACOPAD is “PICOOZ IR.” Have complete flight control over said infrared helicopters using your PlayStation Portable. Unfortunately due to hardware limitations, this will not and does not work on Slim models. Just + size PSPs running firmware 1.50 or a custom firmware from Dark_AleX / Team M33.

Picooz IR Helicopter

Select your Flight Mode with the right trigger (Mode 1 or 2). First off all, you must select the communication Channel
X – Channel A or 1
O – Channel B or 2
[] – Channel C or 3

General Controls
Triangle/Cross Throttle UP / Throttle Down
Square/Rond Trim Left / Trim Right
Analogic Stick Left and Right

If you press the left trigger and Triangle or Cross, you’ll amplify the effect by three.

Despite the author and source link being French, an English readme is provided to help get you started.

evidently not useless, as you can use it to control a helicopter…you can also use it as a remote control, great fun in public places!!

This doesn’t appear to work with my Picooz helicopter. I’ve tried all 3 channels but to no avail.

Wow, That’s awsome! Definately gives me a reason to purchase a picoo.
Their approx. $25 for a new one at amazon and at RadioShack. I’m sure you will be able to find one at local chain stores such as Wal-Mart also.
Next update will probably allow you to mount a small digital camera onto that thing and take pictures, that’d be awsome.

WOW! This is so cool. I just bought the havok heli yesterday and today, this comes out!

Just one more thing that the PSP can do. Soon, the psp will be able to do ANYTHING!!
(just kidding on the anything part…)

lol i woke up this morning and gave it a try and it worked on one of those havoc heli ones …. The PSP infra port is quite limited and i almost had to point it directly at the helicopter for it to start flying but it did work ….great job

Wow that is awsome good job guys and as far as slim is concerned it would not be to terribly hard to make a USB adapter with a 27Mhz crystal or IR and write some code for it.

Yay, I did the same thing but just using my NYKO Intelligent Universal Remote Control, flying my little sparrow around the house with it, the novelty wore off in about 5 minutes though, you dont have analog control so its either full throttle or no throttle, unless you programmed each throttle step to different buttons, but that’s just annoying. Still, it was funny to see this publicised on the web and using a PSP. Anything with programmable IR will work though. Sometimes even a normal remote control will interfere with the chopper and make it go crazy, due to the similar codes.
