Take in a whiff of sweet firmware freshness… Do you smell that circulating the PSP scene? Pump yo breaks — it’s a brand spankin’ new custom firmware for Fat/Slim PSPs! Based on the original developments by Dark_AleX & Team M33 is _HellDashX_’s very own custom firmware — 3.72 HX.
Judging by Google’s poor translation of Spanish to English, there isn’t much new… Other than the fact it uses Sony’s latest 3.72 kernel. If you decide to upgrade, it’s likely some 3rd party PRX modules may stop working. Also, you’ll lose 1.50 kernel capabilities until a new patch is released.
Installation:
- Download the update package below;
- Download the 3.72 firmware update EBOOT;
- Rename EBOOT.PBP from the 3.72 update to 372.PBP;
- Copy 372.PBP, EBOOT.PBP (from the 3.72 HX package), and umodule.prx to PSP/GAME/UPDATE on your memory stick;
- Launch the updater from the XMB;
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Perhaps someone will provide a properly translated version of the readme, soon…

the update is all weird!
first you put the stuff in a UPDATE folder, start the update (by pressing X) and then it brings up the psp 3.72 update. very cool! i didnt even know it was possible to start the sce updater with homebrew lol

Before anything, Dark_Alex deserves enormous appreciation.
Thanks to him for learning a great deal about reverse engineering.
After analyzing all the code of 3.71 CF m33-2 (We can demonstrate for those that have doubts.),
and after knowing Dark_Alex did not plan on releasing a 3.72 CF. I decided to adapt 3.71 m33-2 to 3.72.
There were barely any changes to this firmware (5 different addresses to patch by vshctrl.prx in some modules of vsh, and some other things.), so the only thing was adapt the code of 3.71 to this.
The updater I use for this process is the same one DAX made for 3.71 (also I reversed the whole thing, all the components, so all the code of the updater is mine taken by reverse and tested in my fat and slim).
It does not include 1.50 compatibility, there should be no problem installing it, the DAX program only works with 3.71 because it checks the firmware version (confirmed, if anybody has doubts this is fw 3.72 you can run the DAX 1.50 installer and see that it won’t run)
I am reversing it, (I am almost have it complete), if I reverse and have time I will make a patch for this.
INSTALLATION
Put the eboot and umodule.prx in the folder PSP/GAME/UPDATE, paste the official 3.72 eboot named 372.PBP in this folder and launch the program.
Sony’s code will run installing firmware 3.72, and when asked press X to restart IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PRESS X, DO NOT TURN OFF THE PSP MANUALLY! Explanation, in the moment you press X the umodule.prx will do its job installing the files of CF in the flash, and then the system will restart.
If you don’t press X, you will brick for sure(explanation, Sony updater will only flash the IPL to 99%, but the modified updater also installs an IPL custom block, which in the start try to load x files if they are not there will produce a brick).
Tested on a PSP fat 3.71 m33-1 and 3.71 m33-2 and also in a Slim with the same CF.
Thanks to DAX for the original code (and the fun I had with it) and Coolj for testing my update code and the fixes in 3.71 m33-2 for the 3.72.

Yeah, and 3.70+ keeps messing up for me… crashes if i take it off of sleep when i’m playing homebrew… and i did install 1.50-2 update.
It’s not the 1.50 update you need, it’s the 3.71 M33-2 Update you need which fixes sleep during homebrew. I’m just waiting for this firmware to come out with POP and homebrew capabilities because I don’t really see the point. And besides, I know get to play Mario 64 how it was meant to be which is without the aid of sleep mode.

can anyone tell me that why i tried this on my psp fat it wrote that error on idstorage but while i try it on psp slim, its ok…& i successful to make it to 3.72 HX-1…can anyone tell me why?
3.7 series breaks so many stuff that I think I will just never upgrade from 3.52 anymore (unless there are games that force 3.7).

koo. ill stick with 3.71 though. i have too much homebrew to lose without 1.5 support, and if there’s not much difference, then it won’t matter really to upgrade. No games are coming out requiring 3.71 yet, so it should be ok. but props to you. nice to see someone’s keeping the scene alive. l8rs

Ok Ive just upgraded to 3.72HX from 3.71M33-2. All ok. Iso’s and CIso’s all working. Even Doom working (firmware 1.0Version). System info says 3.72 HX-1 but Recovery still says M33 and VSH Menu says M33. Had my play with this and can confirm used Pandora to go back to 3.72M33-2 & 1.5addon. Now able to play 1.5 homebrew again.
I dont think this is DAX’s work and with that said well done to HellDashX for his accomplishing work. He’s the first to crack sony’s latest attempt.

If it says that you have 3.72 you obviously haven’t downgraded.
i have 3.52 m33-4 frimware and when i try to update its telling me that i need 3.52 m33-3 or higher why is that?

I have a problem. When it installs the 3.72 theres always a problem (80020321) or smth like this. It wont go further. I tried it whit several MS. I have the 3.72 M33-2. plz help

I just want to play the IRShell in my PSP Slim and it doesn’t work with my Slim because the Kernel 1.5 doesn’t exist anymore in the Slim, how can i run the IRShell, the CF i use is the 3.71 M33-2, please i need some help, do we need a new IRshell version??? or it will be fixed that problem with a future CF??????

Unfortunately, this is just a hex edit of 3.71 M33 changing the patches to 3.72. Math himself has confirmed it, and Alex.

Hay i’m having a problem installing 3.71 mm3 from 3.52mm3-4, i run the update like normal and it tells me that it’s verifying eboot 3.71… cannot open file… error (0×80001 bla bla bla) then the psp reboot s its self. I got all the files for this update from this site… um, kinda lost… any suggestions?

Shutting down the PS3 via the PSP puts the PS3 into a state where Wake On Lan will not work until the PS3 is rebooted and shut back down again.
I tested this a few times today and I get:
A connection error has occurred. The connection to the PS3tm system has been terminated.
whenever I use the “Turn Off the PS3tm System” via the PSP.
Once you do that, you can not use the “Remote Start” feature over the Internet until you restart the PS3.
I don’t think it is a network congestion issue

I just got my psp slim upgraded to 3.72 and i can’t get the custom firmware to work what can i do with out useing pandoras battery i am not screwing around with the battery i live in a 3rd world
