One Wire Pandora Battery — No Software Required

Posted by greg

“Pandoraize” your PSP Phat and/or Slim battery without any software related hacks; just take a close look at the diagrams provided by godzivan. If you have a steady hand, it only requires the soldering of one wire. Upon success, create your magic memory stick!

you can use tape to connect, like mike chong down below said, or you can use stuff called wire glue… basically conductive glue, instead of soldering

    huh?
this is kinda dumb, if you need the 1.5 psp anyway to make the ‘magic stick’ whats the point of having a non-software mod?

All you need a homebrew psp for is to extract some files for a dump. Copy the dump from a m8 and put on the memory stick. Run the battery with it, congrats, it should work

That’s a comment you thought about for a long time, isn’t it. You don’t even need a 1.50 PSP to make the Magic Memory Stick, just custom firmware with 3.XX kernel.

    2007-10-22 04:47:09

When lifting the pin 5 (or pin 4 on a Slim battery), the battery won’t charge because that’s the Ground pin. I think the same applys to the Power pin.

So my question is: Will this new hardware hack allow the battery to charge ?

    2007-10-22 08:05:55

Well, duh. The one that said that it DOES work is a moron ! Unless his PSP turns on by itself and tries to read the ms just by plugging the ac cord… Which I seriously doubt that it does.

    Comment by anonimous
    2007-10-22 10:23:07

He just take out his pandora battery while AC adapter was plugged in.

In this case the PSP don’t erase battery ID in his memory and think that it’s still in PSP.

    Comment by AndyM3
    2007-11-21 16:24:50

Well, it might work. The boot drive is read from the battery’s EEPROM by default. But what would happen if there is NO battery? Would the PSP boot from flash0 or would it try booting from ms0? I didn’t try that because of my Magic MS lack, but, you know, it *might* work.

The concept of this working on the slim batteries ALONE is well worth the discovery in my book.
As for the switch comments, I’ve installed a switch on my phatty battery’s frontal face side and using the battery mod here last time (the one where u snap the leg off on one of the chipsets soldering point technique) i was able to cut it instead and solder them with wires that connects to the switch that I mounted (drilled hole and fitted snugly) on the battery).
But I’m afraid it costed me x2 phatty batteries. one was botched during the first attempt and the outher casing’s hole was too big and the second was fine but the cell over heated and smoked during soldering the wires to the circuit board so I ended up swapping the cell on the 1st attempt and found myself attempting a more dangerous soldering jobs. Which is to solder the VERY HARD bottom soldered points of the + and - side on the battery’s circuit off and back on on the previous botched attempt.
End result was well worth it though and the closest explosions I had was a battery leak on the 2nd one and a dark smoke that scared the sh!t out of me when i cut the chipsets leg in half for me to be able to solder at it’s points.
I’ll produce pics/vids of my final result if ppl requests so. Just let me know if u want…

If u do attempt his, make sure u get a uber small switch cos normal .5″ ones (2 size below normal) is too big. and upon closing the case again when ur almost done, u’ll realize that the switch is too big and the case will NEVER close.
and another is to get new solder tips, again the smaller the better. Cos using old ones tends to take too long to heat up and thus more danger over heating the cell packs.
Specially when attempting to solder the wires (+&-) to the chipset’s half leg and the mobo, u need to be EXTREMELY quick. cos too much heat on the chip end=broken chip and too much heat on the mobo end=higher risk for the cell pack on the back side and u’ll find urself covering for a mini (DANGEROUS!) explosion. the battery’s acid and other small HOT! plastic and metalic fragments will be everywhere.
So BE CAREFUL AND WEAR PROPER EYE AND GLOVE protections.
I ended up buying a welding mask and altering the visor to have plastic/see through fiber glass window.
    So just in case…

Don’t get any of the battery liquid on you if you rupture the cell. That stuff is WICKED. It punctures holes in every body cell (your body) that it comes in contact with!! Nasty Stuff. Be careful.

Next, I want to take the battery’s mobo and cut it from the cell pack and feed it instead with an adapter (normal 3.6-5v cord ones) to be able to use it without worrying it’s power capacity. And try to sell it to my friend cos he owns a console repair private business.
what do u guys think? would u buy it?

A Pandora Battery that runs on 110/220v alternative current ? lol

I think it would be useful for someone like your friend… Especially if he’s into repairs (unbrick). Just don’t overprice it because remember, he can do it with a normal battery too.

I have a software modded battery and personally, I think it’s less messy and a heck of alot prettier than sticking sharp objects into it’s casing. But if you’re a professional and know what you’re doing when you cut through the plastic, then know exactly how to stick a switch to it, than I say go for it.

I do not recommend this at all, very risky, if you look at the actual chip, its very very very small, I mean, this isnt soldering, its micro sodering, you can ruin your battery so easy its not even funny, not to mention it can catch on fire and explode. I am not lying, please be careful people.

    2007-10-22 14:43:55

unless you are a complete retard it would seem obvious that the battery should be gently bent away from the pcb thus removing any chance of an explosion from over heating. And soldering inside the battery is not so tight. installing a UP mod chip was much harder

I recommend using a 15W soldering iron. This means you have quite a while to solder the joints before it will damage the chip

    Comment by Nigol
    2007-10-22 15:55:42

Or without any soldering you can cut one of the pins on the chip (For the Slim), Or just simply cut the track that goes to that pin. I tested it and it workes perfectly on the slim.

Go here for some info on what pin to cut or more simple juste cut the track that goes from that pin

I did this mod (one wire) on fat version and when inserted with or w/out MS inserted, I just get black screen and power led indicator (green when charged, red when low). I don’t get the wifi light or anything else. I used 30guage kynar wire. It shows the power led as soon as I plug battery in and didn’t touch power switch or anything. psp fat works fine with other battery and/or AC plugged in. Any thoughts?

That means you have a pandorized battery, but no pandora memory stick (it’s looking for something to boot from because your bypassing the onboard eprom): put in a pandora memory stick insert your pandorized battery and watch it boot right up.

Already tested conductivity of hb pencils? There cant be any loss dough, don’t forget it. But conductive ink sounds pretty good to me! Anyway, you should be able to use sticky wire, it’s like normal celotape, but with copper bands on it. There you’ve got 0,0003% loss of tension, works fine dough, i’ve tested it :)
